1 INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEB650C 650-LUMEN FLUORESCENT EMERGENCY BALLAST SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS: When using electrical equipment, always adhere to basic safety precautions including the following: EMERGENCY BALLAST OVERVIEW The NEB650C Emergency Ballast allows the same indoor fixture to be used for both normal and emergency operation. In the event of a power failure, the NEB650C switches to the emergency mode and operates one existing lamps for a minimum of 90 minutes. The NEB650C contains a battery, charger and inverter circuit in a single package. It can be mounted in the wireway or on top of the indoor fixture and is UL Listed for factory installation or retrofit applications. LAMP COMPATIBILITY In the emergency mode, this device will operate one () W, 8W, or 26W compact fluorescent lamp; or one () W-42W twin, quad or triple (4-pin) compact fluorescent lamp. READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. Do not use outdoors. This unit is for use with grounded, UL Listed indoor fixtures except in heated air outlets or in wet, damp or hazardous locations. 2. This device is designed for factory or field installation in either the wireway or on top of the indoor fixture.. This device should be mounted in locations and at heights where it will not be easily subjected to tampering by unauthorized personnel. 4. Do not install near gas or electric heaters. 5. Do not use this equipment for anything other than its intended use. 6. The use of accessory equipment not recommended by the manufacturer will void product listing and warranty and may cause an unsafe condition. 7. Prior to installation, battery connection must be open to prevent high voltage from being present on the output leads (red and yellow). 8. An AC power source of 20VAC or 277VAC is required. 9. Make sure electrical connections are in conformance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations where applicable. 0. To prevent electric shock, disconnect normal and emergency power supplies and battery connections from the emergency ballast before servicing.. This is a sealed unit that contains a maintenance-free, high temperature nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cad) battery that is not replaceable in the field. Do not attempt to service or replace battery. Replace entire unit when necessary. Batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact manufacturer for information. 2. Installation of or service on this equipment should be performed by qualified personnel only. INSTALLATION. Turn off AC power before installation. 2. Choose proper wiring diagram to connect this emergency ballast to AC ballast and lamp.. Emergency ballast must be fed from the same branch circuit as the AC ballast. 4. Follow directions to install emergency ballast (Diagrams and 2). 5. Follow directions to install TEST switch. See Diagram for remote installation. Wire the TEST switch so that it disconnects AC power from both the emergency ballast and AC ballast at the same time. (Diagram 2). 6. The CHARGE indicator light should be illuminated during normal fixture operation. 7. Place appropriate labels on CHARGE indicator light and TEST switch upon completion of installation. 8. Select a highly visible location and adhere warning label that states, (CAUTION: This unit has more than one power supply connection point. To reduce the risk of electric shock, disconnect both the branch circuit breakers or fuses and emergency power supplies before servicing.) 9. Wire nut unused AC voltage lead. 0. When the fixture is completely installed, connect the inverter.. Turn on AC power. 2. Check to see that CHARGE indicator light is illuminated.. Battery in emergency ballast must be charged for one () hour in order to perform short-term emergency function testing. Before attempting a long-term emergency function test (90 minutes), battery must be charged for 24 hours. OPERATION. The CHARGE indicator light should be illuminated when AC power is applied. 2. Emergency ballast should function and operate one () lamp for at least 90 minutes after AC power has failed. MAINTENANCE. To ensure that emergency ballast is operating properly, the following schedule is recommended: a. Every month - Visually inspect CHARGE indicator and confirm illumination. b. Every month - Press TEST switch for 0 seconds and confirm lamp operation at reduced illumination. c. Every year - Perform a 90-minute long-term emergency function test to be sure lamp operates at reduced illumination for a minimum of 90 minutes. 2. Written records of testing shall be kept by the owner for inspection by the authority having jurisdiction. (Continued) pg of 4

The emergency ballast may be remotely mounted up to half the distance recommended by the AC ballast manufacturer. If no AC ballast is used,the emergency ballast can be remotely mounted up to 50 feet away. 2 Flexible conduit (supplied) to connect ballast wire. En caso de interrupción del suministro eléctrico, el NEB650C conmuta al modo de emergencia y opera una de las lámparas existentes por un mínimo de 90 minutos. El NEB650C contiene una batería, un cargador y un circuito inversor en un mismo paquete. Puede montarse en la bandeja para cables o arriba de la luminaria para interiores y tiene certificación UL para instalación en fábrica o aplicaciones de retroinstalación. COMPATIBILIDAD CON LÁMPARAS FLUORESCENTES En modo de emergencia, este dispositivo puede operar una () lámpara fluorescente compacta de, 8 ó 26 W o una () lámpara fluorescente compacta doble, cuádruple o triple de -42 W (de 4 terminales). LEA Y SIGA TODAS LAS INSTRUCCIONES DE SEGURIDAD. No use este producto en exteriores. Esta unidad es para usar con luminarias para interiores UL Listed con conexión a tierra, excepto en bocas de aire caliente o en lugares mojados, húmedos o peligrosos. 2. Este dispositivo está diseñado para instalación en fábrica o en el lugar de uso, ya sea en la bandeja para cables o arriba de la luminaria para interiores.. Este dispositivo se debe montar en lugares y a alturas donde no pueda estar sometido fácilmente a la manipulación indebida por parte de personal no autorizado. 4. Antes de la instalación, el conector de la batería debe abrirse para evitar que esté presente una alta tensión en los conductores de salida (rojo y amarillo). 8. Se requiere una fuente de alimentación de corriente alterna de 20 VCA o 277 VCA. 9. Asegúrese de que las conexiones eléctricas cumplan el Código Eléctrico Nacional de EE.UU (NEC) y las regulaciones locales que correspondan. 0. Para evitar riesgos de electrocución, antes de realizar el servicio desconecte los suministros eléctricos normal y de emergencia, así como las conexiones de la batería del balastro de emergencia.. Ésta es una unidad sellada que contiene una batería de níquel-cadmio (Ni-Cad) sin mantenimiento para alta temperatura que no es reemplazable en el terreno. No intente realizar el servicio o reemplazar la batería. Reemplace la unidad completa cuando sea necesario. Las baterías deben reciclarse o desecharse correctamente. Solicite información al fabricante. 2. La instalación y el servicio de este equipo debe realizarlos sólo el personal calificado. INSTALACIÓN. Desconecte el suministro de CA antes de la instalación. 2. Elija el diagrama de cableado correcto para conectar este balastro de emergencia al balastro de CA y la lámpara.. El balastro de emergencia debe alimentarse desde el mismo ramal del circuito que el balastro de CA. 4. Siga las instrucciones para instalar el balastro de emergencia (Diagramas y 2). 5. Siga las instrucciones para instalar el interruptor de PRUEBA. Vea la instalación remota en el Diagrama. Cablee el interruptor de PRUEBA de modo que des-conecte la alimentación de CA del balastro de emergencia y del balastro de CA al mismo tiempo.(diagrama 2). 6. La luz indicadora de CARGA se debe iluminar durante el funcionamiento normal del accesorio. 7. Coloque rótulos apropiados en la luz indicadora de CARGA y el interruptor de PRUEBA cuando termine la instalación. 8. Seleccione un lugar bien visible y adhiera un rótulo de advertencia con el texto (PRECAUCIÓN: Esta unidad tiene más de un punto de conexión al suministro eléctrico. Para reducir el riesgo de electrocución, antes de realizar el servicio desconecte tanto los disyuntores o fusibles del ramal del circuito como las fuentes de alimentación de emergencia.) 9. Coloque un capuchón en el conductor de tensión de CA no usado. 0. Cuando el accesorio esté completamente instalado, conecte el inversor.. Conecte el suministro de CA. 2. Verifique que se encienda la luz indicadora de CARGA.. La batería del balastro de emergencia se debe cargar durante una () hora a fin de realizar la prueba de función de emergencia de corto plazo. Antes de intentar la prueba de la función de emergencia de largo plazo (90 minutos), la batería debe cargarse durante 24 horas. OPERACIÓN. La luz indicadora de CARGA se debe encender cuando se aplica la alimentación de CA. 2. El balastro de emergencia debe funcionar y operar una () lámpara durante un mínimo de 90 minutos después de la interrupción del suministro eléctrico. MANTENIMIENTO. Para asegurar que el balastro de emer gencia funcione correctamente, se recomienda el siguiente programa: a. Mensualmente Inspeccionar visual mente el indicador de CARGA y con firmar que esté encendido. b. Mensualmente Pulsar el interruptor de PRUEBA durante 0 segundos y confirmar el funcionamiento de la lámpara con iluminación reducida. c. Anualmente Realizar una prueba de la función de emergencia de largo plazo de 90 minutos para asegu rarse de que la lámpara funcione con iluminación reducida durante un mínimo de 90 minutos. 2.
