English Installing Your Modem This chapter introduces the ports and LED indicators; and shows you how to install your modem and software driver. Needed Information Fill in the table below with information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and telephone company before installation. You may not need to fill in every blank. Ask your ISP for the following information: Fill in the blanks Driver: RFC 1483, PPPoA or PPPoE. RFC 1483 Mode: Bridged or Routed (only when using RFC 1483). VPI: The Virtual Path Identifier number identifies a bundle of virtual channels. VCI: The Virtual Channel Identifier number identifies a logical connection between end stations. Setup Type: LLC or VCMUX. User Name: Lets your ISP know which account you are logging into. Password: Protects your account from unauthorized use. Installation Procedure Have your system operating disk handy during the installation, in case a specific file can not be found on your computer. The back panel has two interfaces: a USB and an ADSL port as shown in the following figure. Step 1. Close all Windows programs and applications. Step 2. Plug the square end of the USB cable into the back of your modem (see figures), and then plug the rectangular end of the USB cable into the back of your computer. Plug this cable end into your modem Plug this cable end into your computer Do not use a Windows hardware installation wizard to install your modem. ZyXEL has a custom installation procedure. If your computer starts a Windows hardware installation wizard (probable), click Cancel at the first screen. Click Cancel 1
English Step 3. Insert the support CD. Click the Windows Start button (usually bottom left) and select Run. Use Browse to find Setup.exe Then click OK Step 4. Click Next in the Welcome screen to display the License Agreement screen. Step 5. Read the license agreement and click Yes to agree to the terms and bring up the Read Me screen. Step 6. The Read Me screen gives instructions for installing and uninstalling the modem, along with some troubleshooting information. Use the scroll bars to read the text and click Next to go to the Driver Components screen. Step 7. In the Driver Components screen, select the driver if your ISP has not pre-configured it for you. Type the VPI and VCI specified by your telephone company. Click Next. Step 8. In the Setup Type screen, select the setup type specified by your ISP. Click Next. Step 9. When using RFC 1483, the next screen appears. Select the mode that your ISP supports. For PPPoA, go to the next step. Click Next. Step 10. Screens pop up to report the progress of the installation. The Setup Status is displayed briefly. You do not need to click anything until the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen is displayed. Step 11. Click Finish in the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen to bring up the Rebooting Machine screen. Step 12. Click Yes, I want to restart my computer now. in the Rebooting Machine screen. Then click OK. Windows 2000 users can click Yes at the Digital Signature Not Found alert. The Found New Hardware screen appears, wait for it to disappear when the configuration is complete. Step 13. Use a telephone wire to connect the ADSL port to the wall jack. You may opt to buy a telephone microfilter to install between the wall jack and your telephone(s). A microfilter acts as a low pass filter that screens out possible interference. 2
English Connecting Step 1. In Windows, click Start (usually in the bottom left-hand corner) > Settings > Control Panel and double-click the ADSL Control and Status icon to bring up the ADSL Control and Status window. Step 2. Use the Connect button in the ADSL Control and Status window to initiate a connection with your ISP. The button text changes to Disconnect after a connection is established. Click Connect. Step 3. Click Close to close the ADSL Control and Status window after your connection has been made (the modem stays connected). If you are using RFC 1483, you are done installing your modem! PPPoA or PPPoE Setup Windows 2000 From the Windows desktop, double-click the Shortcut to ZyXEL ADSL icon to bring up the following screen. Type the user name and password from your ISP. Click Dial. Windows 98 and ME From the Windows desktop, double-click the Shortcut to ZyXEL ADSL icon to bring up the following screen. Type the user name and password from your ISP. Click Connect. 3

Mit Hilfe der Bildlaufleisten können Sie durch den Text blättern. Wenn Sie fertig sind, klicken Sie auf Weiter, um den Bildschirm Treiberkomponenten aufzurufen. 7. Im Fenster Driver Components (Treiberkomponenten) wählen Sie den für Ihren Internet- Provider erforderlichen Treiber aus. Legen Sie im folgenden Bildschirm den VPI bzw. VCI fest, den Sie von Ihrer Telefongesellschaft erhalten haben. Klicken Sie auf Weiter. 8. Wählen Sie im Fenster Setup Type die von Ihrem Internet-Provider festgelegte Konfiguration aus. Klicken Sie auf Weiter. 9. Wenn Sie RFC 1483 verwenden, erscheint der folgende Bildschirm. Vom Provider festgelegte Betriebsart wählen. Benutzen Sie hingegen PPPoA, fahren Sie mit dem nächsten Schritt fort. Klicken Sie auf Weiter. 10.Anschließend erscheinen einige Fenster, die Sie über den Fortschritt der Installation informieren. Ebenfalls erscheint kurzzeitig das Fenster Setup Status. Sie brauchen nichts anzuklicken, bis das Fenster InstallShield Wizard Complete angezeigt wird. 11.Klicken Sie hier auf Beenden, um das Dialogfeld Rebooting Machine (Neustart des Computers) anzuzeigen. 12.Klicken Sie auf Yes, I want to restart my computer now (Ja, Computer jetzt neu starten). Bestätigen Sie anschließend mit OK. Wenn Sie Windows 2000 verwenden, erhalten Sie eine Meldung Digitale Signatur nicht gefunden. Klicken Sie auf Ja, um fortzufahren. Procedimento de instalação Tenha o CD de instalação do sistema operativo à mão durante a instalação do modem, para o caso de faltar algum ficheiro do sistema operativo no computador. O painel traseiro dispõe de duas interfaces: uma porta USB e uma porta ADSL, como mostra a figura seguinte. O passo 1. Feche todos os programas e aplicações do Windows. O passo 2. Ligue a extremidade quadrada do cabo USB na traseira do modem (consulte as figuras) e, de seguida, ligue a extremidade rectangular do cabo USB na parte traseira do computador. Ligue esta extremidade do cabo no modem. Ligue esta extremidade do cabo no computador. Não utilize o assistente de instalação de hardware do Windows para instalar o modem. A ZyXEL dispõe de um processo de instalação personalizado. Se o computador iniciar um assistente de instalação de hardware do Windows (provável), clique no botão Cancel (Cancelar) quando aparecer o primeiro ecrã. Clique em Cancel. 13

No ecrã Driver Components (Componentes do controlador), seleccione o controlador se o seu ISP não tiver configurado previamente um controlador. Escreva o VPI e o VCI especificados pelo seu operador telefónico. Clique em Seguinte. O passo 8. No ecrã Setup Type (Tipo de configuração), seleccione o tipo de configuração especificado pelo seu ISP. Clique em Seguinte. O passo 9. Quando utiliza um controlador RFC 1483, aparece o ecrã seguinte. Seleccione o modo que o ISP suporta. Se estiver a utilizar um controlador PPPoA, vá para o passo seguinte. O passo 10. Aparecem vários ecrãs que o informam do progresso da instalação. O ecrã Setup Status (Estado da configuração) é apresentado durante breves instantes. Só necessita de voltar a clicar quando é apresentado o ecrã InstallShield Wizard Complete (Conclusão da instalação). O passo 11. Clique no botão Finish (Concluir) no ecrã InstallShield Wizard Complete (Conclusão da instalação) para aceder ao ecrã Rebooting Machine (Reiniciar o computador). O passo 12. Clique na opção Yes, I want to restart my computer now. (Sim, pretendo reiniciar o menu computador agora) contida no ecrã Reboot Machine (Reiniciar o computador). A seguir, clique no botão OK. Os utilizadores do Windows 2000 podem clicar no botão Yes (Sim) no alerta Digital Signature Not Found (Não foi encontrada a assinatura digital). Aparece o ecrã Found New Hardware (Novo hardware encontrado). Espere que este ecrã desapareça quando a configuração estiver concluída. O passo 13. Utilize um fio telefónico para ligar a porta ADSL à tomada. Pode optar por comprar um microfiltro para o telefone para colocar entre a tomada e o(s) telefone(s). Um microfiltro tem por função a eliminação de interferências na linha telefónica. 14

Informazioni da richiedere Inserire nella tabella seguente le informazioni ricevute dal fornitore di servizi Internet (ISP) e dalla compagnia telefonica prima dell installazione. Potrebbe non essere necessario indicare tutti i dati. RIVOLGERSI ALL ISP PER LE SEGUENTI INFORMAZIONI: RIPORTARE I DATI NELLE CASELLE Driver: RFC 1483, PPPoE o PPPoA. Modo RFC 1483: Bridged o Routed (solo se si utilizza RFC 1483). VPI: Il numero VPI (Virtual Path Identifier) identifica un gruppo di canali virtuali. VCI: Il numero VCI (Virtual Channel Identifier) identifica una connessione logica tra stazioni terminali. Tipo di setup: LLC o VCMUX. Nome utente: Comunica all ISP l account per il login. Password: Protegge l account da un accesso non autorizzato. Procedura di installazione Durante l installazione tenere a portata di mano il disco del sistema operativo, nel caso in cui non sia possibile trovare un determinato file sul computer. Il pannello posteriore ha due interfacce: una porta USB e una porta ADSL, come mostra la figura seguente: Passo 1. Chiudere tutte le applicazioni e i programmi Windows. Passo 2. Inserire l estremità quadrata del cavo USB nel retro del modem (vedere le figure) e poi inserire l estremità rettangolare del cavo USB nel retro del computer. Inserire questa estremità del cavo nel modem Inserire questa estremità del cavo nel computer Non utilizzare la procedura di installazione guidata dell hardware di Windows per installare il modem. ZyXEL mette a disposizione una procedura di installazione personalizzata. Se si avvia automaticamente l installazione guidata dell hardware di Windows (eventualità probabile), fare clic su Annulla nella schermata iniziale. Fare clic su Annulla. 16
I t a l i a n Passo 3. Inserire il CD fornito. Fare clic sul pulsante Avvio di Windows (situato di solito in basso a sinistra) e selezionare Esegui. Con il pulsante Sfoglia individuare il file Setup.exe Scegliere Ok. Passo 4. Fare clic su Avanti nella schermata di benvenuto per visualizzare il contratto di licenza. Passo 5. Leggere il contratto di licenza e scegliere Sì per accettarlo e visualizzare la schermata Leggimi. Passo 6. La schermata Leggimi contiene istruzioni per l installazione e la disinstallazione del modem, oltre ad alcune informazioni per la risoluzione dei problemi. Servirsi delle barre di scorrimento per leggere il testo e fare clic su Avanti per visualizzare la schermata Componenti del driver. Passo 7. Nella schermata Componenti del driver selezionare il driver se non è stato già preconfigurato dall ISP. Digitare il VPI e il VCI specificati dalla compagnia telefonica. Fare clic su Avanti. Passo 8. Nella schermata Tipo di setup selezionare il tipo di setup specificato dall ISP. Fare clic su Avanti. Passo 9. Se si utilizza il driver RFC 1483 apparirà la seguente schermata. Selezionare la modalità supportata dall ISP. Per PPPoA andare al passo successivo. Fare clic su Avanti. Passo 10. Si aprono delle finestre che aggiornano sull andamento dell installazione. Viene visualizzato brevemente lo Stato di setup. Non è necessario effettuare alcuna selezione finché non viene visualizzata la schermata Installazione completata. Passo 11. Fare clic su Fine nella schermata Installazione completata per visualizzare la finestra Riavviare il computer? Passo 12. Fare clic su Sì, riavviare il computer ora. Scegliere OK. Gli utenti di Windows 2000 possono scegliere Sì quando viene visualizzato il messaggio Firma digitale non trovata. Apparirà la schermata Trovato nuovo hardware. Attendere che scompaia al termine della configurazione. Passo 13. Utilizzando un filo telefonico collegare la porta ADSL alla presa a parete. Si può acquistare un microfiltro telefonico da installare tra la presa a parete e il telefono. Un microfiltro funge da filtro passa-basso per l eliminazione di possibili interferenze. 17

In Windows, fare clic su Avvio (di solito nell angolo in basso a sinistra)4impostazioni 4 Pannello di controllo e fare doppio clic sull icona Controllo e stato ADSL per aprire la finestra Controllo e stato ADSL. Passo 2. Utilizzare il pulsante Connetti nella finestra Controllo e stato ADSL per iniziare la connessione all ISP. Una volta stabilita la connessione, sul pulsante appare il testo Disconnetti. Passo 3. Fare clic su Chiudi per chiudere la finestra Controllo e stato ADSL dopo aver instaurato la connessione (il modem resta collegato). Se si utilizza il driver RFC 1483, l installazione del modem è terminata. Visitare il sito www.zyxel.com per testare la connessione a Internet e scoprire altri interessanti prodotti di ZyXEL. Se si utilizza il driver PPPoA o PPPoE, andare alla sezione successiva. Fare clic su Connetti Setup PPPoA o PPPoE Windows 2000 Sul desktop di Windows fare doppio clic sull icona Collegamento a ZyXEL ADSL per aprire la schermata seguente. Digitare il nome utente e la password ricevuti dall ISP. Fare clic su Componi. Windows 98 e ME Sul desktop di Windows fare doppio clic sull icona Collegamento a ZyXEL ADSL per aprire la schermata seguente. Digitare il nome utente e la password ricevuti dall ISP.
