PASTOR S PERSPECTIVE Dear Parishioners: Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa was a well-known reformer of spiritual life for the clergy and laity in the 15th century. One day, he had an amazing dream that moved him deeply. In his dream, the cardinal and a guide was entering a small and ancient church. More than a thousand nuns were praying inside, in a way that the cardinal had never seen before. The nuns were not kneeling but standing with open arms, palms facing upwards in a gesture of offering. In their poor, thin hands, they carried men and women, emperors and kings, ci es and countries. Some mes several pairs of hands joined together to hold a city. A whole wall of arms was suppor ng a country, recognizable by its na onal flag. Most nuns, however, carried one individual in their hands. In the hands of a thin, young, almost child-like nun, Cardinal Nicholas saw the Pope. You could see how heavy this load was for her, but her face was radia ng a joyful gleam. Standing in the hands of an older nun, the cardinal was stunned to see himself. His guide whispered, Now you see how sinners are sustained and carried, so that, in spite of their sins, they do not give up loving God. What about those who do not love anymore? the cardinal asked. Suddenly, he was in the crypt of the church with his guide, where once again, more than a thousand nuns were praying. But here people were carried in the nuns hearts. You see, Your Eminence, said the guide, those who have given up loving are s ll carried. Occasionally they become warm again through these ardent hearts that are being consumed for them. The cardinal was cap vated by the women who had made an offering of their lives for the Church, for the world, for na ons and for every individual. He bowed deeply before these martyrs of love. I, too, bow before those who have been suppor ng my priesthood with their daily prayer. I pray that many more people will join the silent ministry of these martyrs of love by making a commitment to pray daily for voca ons to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Fr. Vincen us Do, Pastor COMING AND GOING Since Fr. Or z had to leave quite quickly, the Diocese has been struggling to find a suitable priest to take his place. We are grateful that Fr.
