SECOND COLLECTION A one time special collection for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception will be taken up this weekend. Thank you for your generosity. BAPTISM / WEDDING REGISTRATIONS Baptism registrations will be taken in the vestibule after the 12pm Mass or any weekday in the Rectory. Please bring child s birth certificate. ANTHONY The traditional devotion of the Thirteen Tuesdays in honor of St. Anthony continues every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., as we prepare for the Feast of our Parish Patron St. Anthony. Please join us. FATHER S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES Beginning on Father s Day, 9 Holy Masses will be offered for all fathers, grandfathers, and godfathers, living and deceased, who have been enrolled. Cards for this purpose in English and Spanish are located at the tables in the back of the church. Please list the names of all those you wish to remember in these Masses on the envelope and return it in the collection basket by Father s Day. ST. RAYMOND S CEMETERY MEMORIAL DAY MASS The annual field Mass will be held on Memorial Day, May 29th at 11:00 a.m. on the new Cemetery grounds. The Mass will be tri-lingual and the celebrant will be Fr. James Cruz, Pastor of St. Raymond s parish. All are welcome to attend especially those with loved ones buried at St. Raymond s Cemetery. PEOPLE OF HOPE Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into the experience of the early church. We have tasted the excitement and zeal of the first Christians. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This challenges us. Do others even notice that we are people of hope? In a world often marked by cynicism and hopelessness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reassurance to others? In today s Gospel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us orphaned. Today he promises to send his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Let us acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and ask the Spirit to make us people of hope. TODAY S READINGS First Reading The people of Samaria accepted the word of God preached by Philip; they received the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:5-8, 14-17). Psalm Let all the earth cry out to God with joy (Psalm 66). Second Reading Act with gentleness and reverence toward all, so that when you are maligned those who defame you will be the ones put to shame (1 Peter 3:15-18) or 1 Peter 4:13-16. Hemos saboreado el entusiasmo y el celo de los primeros cristianos. Ahora, con ellos, escuchamos las palabras de san Pedro, que nos recuerda que cuando la gente note que somos pueblo de esperanza, debemos estar preparados para explicar por qué, lo cual nos presenta un reto. Será que otros sí notan que somos pueblo de esperanza? En un mundo marcado por el cinismo y la desesperanza, nos destacamos por ser personas que ofrecen esperanza y confianza a los otros? En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús promete que cuando deje esta tierra no nos dejará huérfanos. Hoy promete enviar al Consolador, el Espíritu de la verdad que siempre permanecerá con nosotros.
