Our relationship with God is the most important relationship we can have in our lives. Our relationship with God is the most important thing we can lose in our lives. God offers Himself to us: how do we respond to that? If we don t respond, we re telling God that He is not the One who created us: that He is not our Father. Then, if we not consider him our Father, we elect the Evil one as our father: there is no "gray" areas. In other words, whether or not our immortal souls live in eternal life in heaven depends on our relationship with God here on earth. Let us hope that we may live according to the spirit - not according to the mentality of this world. Pray for the deceased members of our parish Thomas Nicolosi May they rest in peace

4 Page 4 XIII Sunday of Ordinary Time July 2, 2017 DOMINGO XIII DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO San Pablo nos dice que el bautismo recibido hace que "andemos en una vida nueva". Cada domingo, en la celebración de la Eucaristía, renovamos lo que empezamos en el bautismo. Y, aun así, la experiencia común hace que nos demos cuenta de que nuestra vida, por mucho que hayamos recibido los sacramentos, tiene más bien pocas novedades, está instalada en unas formas de actuar, de pensar, de hablar que no cambian salvo ocasiones especiales. San Pablo insiste mucho en la gratuidad de la fe. Y nosotros también debemos insistir. La misma manera de celebrar la Eucaristía debería quedar tocada por este mensaje. Por ejemplo, la manera de plantear la asistencia a misa, que nunca se puede reducir a una obligación, sino que debemos ayudar a que sea vivida como respuesta agradecida. El evangelio es la continuación de lo que Jesús dice a los apóstoles, a los enviados en la misión. Nos ofrece una serie de puntos de meditación importantes. Deberemos escoger. Por un lado, la centralidad de Jesucristo en la vida del cristiano: "El que quiere a su padre o a su madre... a su hijo o a su hija más que a mí no es digno de mí". Una frase que no se debe leer en clave excluyente. El amor a Jesucristo no anula el amor a la propia sangre. La clave de lectura es la centralidad del Señor y la fe en el amor que nos tiene, fuente del amor que tenemos por los nuestros y por el prójimo. Un segundo punto es el de la cruz: "El que no coge su cruz y me sigue no es digno de mí". Aquí la cruz quiere decir asumir el camino de Jesús en todo, con todas las consecuencias, también la de la cruz, es decir, con la posibilidad de sufrir por fidelidad al amor hasta el final. Evitemos, pues, una lectura de esta frase que consista en adornar los sufrimientos de las personas. Otra cosa es que partamos de la persona que sufre y veamos, a los ojos de la fe, una imagen de Cristo crucificado que se identifica con todas las víctimas del mal y de la muerte. Pero el sentido es fundamentalmente el primero. Otro aspecto, común a los dos primeros que he enumerado, es el del seguimiento de Jesús. El evangelio nos ofrece la imagen del camino y la imagen del guía, a quien podemos seguir, que escoge unas sendas, y, por lo tanto, rechaza otras.
