Besides the basic needs - lodging, clothing and food there are many other necessities we want to gratify. We do experience ultimate longing for love, either to love or to be loved. We do search for both beauty and art on a daily basis. Nevertheless, a need or a desire, once satisfied, will come back again with the same or even with an increased urge. Jesus Christ looks at the big picture. We are most of the time concern with specific practical needs for us and our families. However, we seek a spiritual satisfaction too. Any human being has it. It is the longing of the soul. We are embodied souls or ensouled bodies, if you like. We cannot be fully satisfied if we do not feed our soul with spiritual food. The material food of this world is confined to this earth to this existence. Instead, since the soul is eternal, she seeks eternal things. How, then, could Jesus Christ nourished and satisfy the need of eternity our soul longs for? Very simple: with the One who is eternal. Jesus Christ gives himself up so that eternity may be given to us as well. He makes himself the Food for eternal life. Our lives are not limited to this journey on earth. As long as we live in this world, we need worldly food. But this life is not just for its own sake for the sake of a material life. The Lord Jesus became one of us so that we may receive the Food that which gives eternal life already here on earth. What a grandiose sign! Christ gives his divinity to nourish us into eternal life. In the Liturgy of the Mass we express our faith in the real presence of Christ under the species of Bread and Wine. The Church offers the Sacrament of the Eucharist not only at Mass, but also outside of it, reserving the Consecrated Host for Adoration. Christ desired to remain present in his Church in this unique way. He is Food for our journey into Eternal Life!

4 Page 4 Corpus Christi May 30, 2016 Corpus Christi Muchas son las necesidades que tenemos que satisfacer. A pesar de las necesidades fundamentales como tener una casa, vestir y comer hay muchas más que nos llaman la atención. Por seguro, lo que vemos en nosotros es un deseo de amor, que sea de amar o de ser amado. También estamos atraídos por belleza y arte diariamente. De todo modo, en cuanto uno satisface su deseo, ya sabe que regresara con la misma intensidad o talvez, quizás, más fuerte. Pero Cristo ve más allá de nosotros. La mayoría del tiempo estamos preocupados por cosas prácticas y materiales, por nosotros y por nuestras familias. No tenemos que olvidarnos que también el hombre tiene una dimensión espiritual: nosotros somos una unión inseparable de cuerpo y alma. Quiere decir que tenemos también una necesitad espiritual: de alimento espiritual. Nunca vamos estar completamente satisfecho sin alimentar nuestra alma con lo que es eterno, porque el alma es eterna. El alimento material sirve solamente para alimentar el cuerpo. El alimento perecedero alimenta lo que es perecedero: el cuerpo y esto solamente. Pero cómo satisfacer nuestro espíritu? Cómo satisfacer el deseo que, por el alma, tenemos de eternidad? Con Cristo mismo que es el Eterno! Jesús ofrece a sí mismo como medio para que, recibiéndolo en nuestra alma, esta pueda hacer vivir para siempre también el cuerpo a la Resurrección. La Eucaristía es la vía que conduce a la Eternidad. Cristo eterno donándose en el Sacramento de la Comunión nos da vida eterna. Nosotros, al recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, nos trasformamos en Él. En la liturgia de La Misa expresamos nuestra Fe en la presencia real de Cristo bajo las dos Especies: el Pan y el Vino. La Iglesia ofrece el Sacramento de la Eucaristía también fuera de la Misa, reservando la Hostia Consagrada por la Adoración.
