2 Page Two View this bulletin online at 29 th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 21-22, 2017 VIGESIMONOVENO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO DE OCTUBRE DE 2017 Lectura del Santo Evangelio según San Mateo (22,15-21) En aquel tiempo, se reunieron los fariseos para ver la manera de hacer caer a Jesús, con preguntas insidiosas, en algo de que pudieran acusarlo. Le enviaron, pues, a algunos de sus secuaces, junto con algunos del partido de Herodes, para que le dijeran: "Maestro, sabemos que eres sincero y enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios, y que nada te arredra, porque no buscas el favor de nadie. Dinos, pues, qué piensas: Es lícito o no pagar el tributo al César?" Conociendo Jesús la malicia de sus intenciones, les contestó: "Hipócritas, por qué tratan de sorprenderme? Enséñenme la moneda del tributo". Ellos le presentaron una moneda. Jesús les preguntó: " De quién es esta imagen y esta inscripción?" Le respondieron: "Del César". Y Jesús concluyó: "Den, pues, al César lo que es del César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios". Palabra del Señor Reflexión La afirmación de Jesucristo: Lo del César devuélvanselo al César y lo de Dios a Dios, no la entenderíamos sin tener en cuenta el contexto en que fue pronunciada: Los fariseos se fueron y celebraron Consejo sobre la forma de sorprenderle en alguna palabra. Así pues, ante la respuesta de Jesús, los fariseos quedaron sorprendidos, no se la esperaban. Si claramente hubiese ido en contra del César, le habrían podido denunciar; si hubiese ido a favor de pagar el tributo al César, habrían salido satisfechos de su astucia. Pero Jesucristo, sin hablar en contra del César, lo ha relativizado: Hay que dar a Dios lo que es de Dios ; porque Dios es Señor incluso de los poderes de este mundo. El César, (como todos los gobernantes), no puede ejercer un poder arbitrario, porque su poder le es dado por Dios en "prenda" o garantía; y tarde o temprano tendrán que responder ante el Señor por el mal uso y mal ejercicio de su poder. En el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús le dice a Pilatos: «No tendrías contra mí ningún poder, si no se te hubiera dado de arriba» (Jn 19,10). Jesús no quiere presentarse como agitador político. Simplemente, pone las cosas en su lugar. La interpretación que se ha hecho a veces de este Evangelio es que la Iglesia no debería "inmiscuirse en política", sino solamente ocuparse del culto a Dios. Esta interpretación es falsa, porque ocuparse de Dios no solo es ocuparse del culto, sino es también preocuparse por la justicia y por los hombres, que son los hijos de Dios. Pretender que la Iglesia permanezca o se haga la sorda, la ciega y la muda ante los problemas morales y humanos de nuestro tiempo, eso es quitar a Dios lo que es de Dios. Recordemos a Benedicto XVI cuando dijo : «La tolerancia que solo admite a Dios como opinión privada, pero que le niega el dominio público no es tolerancia, sino es hipocresía». Finalmente, las palabras de Jesús de hoy también nos deben recordar nuestras responsabilidades tanto civiles como religiosas. Paz y bien. Padre Rodolfo
