2 Page Two 21ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 25, 2013 IT S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN Summer is coming to a close, and the fall colors and cool breezes remind parents and children of one thing...the end of summer vacation! After two months of summer fun, sleeping in, and books collecting dust it is time for children to jump back into school and set their sight on learning. Along with the new school supplies and clothes, children can have a fresh start with a new set of goals and expectations. This can also give parents new opportunities to teach their children responsibility, time management, and the importance of being prepared. Parents can list the expectations they have from their children on a weekly basis, as a reminder of the things they can accomplish. Keep in mind that a school is a privileged place in which, through a living encounter with a cultural inheritance, integral formation occurs. We ask parents to give children the opportunities to experience that formation, to be part of their education and to have them at their side. To be the mother or father that every teacher knows by name because they are constantly checking in and being integral parts of their children schooling. For some, the school year arrives in a new school, whether it is transferring from schools or entering another grade level, there is always a sense of anxiety about starting over. Instead of being afraid, students can use this as a challenge for a fresh start, to make new friends, to start with a clean slate. Everything you do from now is the only thing that matters. Work harder, study better, go further. This new school year can be the way to start off on the right foot be sure to be on time, always be prepared, and ready to learn. The new school year also means another year of Catechism classes. Whether children are preparing for a sacrament or just learning more about the faith, this can be the year to get closer to God. Just like in school, the children can be given expectations of what parents would like them to learn, give, and practice; of course, the parents are the role models for this. Parents can help children during the year by going to Mass as a family on a regular basis, praying before meals, praying each morning before school and each evening before bed, and by giving thanks to the Lord for all he has given. These are a few final tips for a successful school year for parents and children: Get enough sleep. Eat a healthy breakfast. Pray daily. Try your best. Use good work habits, like writing down assignments and turning in homework on time. Take time with school work. If something is not understood, ask the teacher. Keep a sense of humor and have fun! Stressing on being the best and not enjoying the days can be worse than not trying. Be sure to have fun with everything your do. A few saints that one can pray for the intercession are the patron saint of schoolchildren, St. Benedict, and the patron saint of schools, St. Thomas Aquinas. View this bulletin online at DOMINGO 21 DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 25 DE AGOSTO DEL 2013 OTRA VEZ ESE MOMENTO DEL AÑO El verano va terminando y los colores del otoño y las suaves brisas recuerdan a los padres y a los niños una cosa el final de las vacaciones! Después de casi dos meses de diversión, dormir mas y libros que acumulan polvo, es hora de que los niños regresen a la escuela y se enfoquen en aprender. Junto con los nuevos útiles y ropas escolares, los niños pueden estrenar de nuevo objeticos y expectativas. Esto también puede dar a los padres nuevas oportunidades de enseñar a los niños responsabilidad, manejo del tiempo y la importancia de estar preparados. Los padres pueden enumerar las expectativas que tienen sobre sus hijos de manera semanal, como recuerdo de los logros que pueden alcanzar. Recuerde que una escuela es un lugar privilegiado donde, a través del encuentro con una herencia cultural, tiene lugar una formación integral. Pedimos a los padres que le proporcionen a sus hijos las oportunidades de experimentar tal formación, ser parte de su educación y tenerlos de su lado. Ser el padre o la madre que todos los maestros conocen por su nombre porque están continuamente acudiendo a la escuela y siendo parte integral de la educación de sus hijos. (Congregación de Educación Católica, La Escuela Católica). Para algunos, el año escolar llega en una nueva escuela. Tanto si se cambia de escuela o se entra en otro grado, siempre hay una cierta ansiedad en comenzar todo de nuevo. En lugar de sentir temor, los alumnos pueden utilizar esto como desafío para un nuevo comienzo, hacer nuevos amigos y empezar en limpio. Todo lo que hagas desde este momento es lo que cuenta. Trabaja más duro, estudia mejor, llega más allá. Este nuevo año escolar puede ser el modo de comenzar con el pie derecho: ser puntual, estar preparado y dispuesto a aprender. El nuevo año escolar también significa otro año de catecismo. Tanto si los niños se están preparando para un sacramento o simplemente aprendiendo más sobre su fe, éste puede ser una año de acercarse más a Dios. Como en la escuela, se les pueden dar a los niños expectativas de lo que los padres quieren que aprendan, den o practiquen. Por supuesto, los padres quieren que aprendan, den o practiquen. Los padres pueden ayudar a los niños durante el año yendo a misa como familia de manera constante; orando antes de las comidas, todas las mañanas antes de la escuela y todas las noches antes de dormir; y dando gracias a Dios por todos sus beneficios. Unas cuantas pistas más para un año escolar exitoso para padres e hijos: Duerman lo suficiente. Tomen un desayuno saludable. Oren diariamente. Hagan su mejor esfuerzo. Utilicen buenos hábitos de trabajo, como anotar las tareas y entregarlas a tiempo. Tomen tiempo para hacer las tareas. Si no entienden algo, pregunten al maestro. Mantengan el sentido del humor y diviértanse! Enfatizar el ser los mejores y no disfrutar los días puede ser peor que no intentarlo. Asegúrense de disfrutar con todo lo que hagan. Pueden orar a algunos santos patrones de los niños escolares, como san Benito y el patrón de las escuelas, santo Tomás de Aquino.
