2 Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School June 17, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Stewardship Thought for the Week Like the sower in today s Gospel, I scatter as seed my gifts of time, talent, and resources; and I trust that, by God s grace and in God s time, these small gifts of myself may grow and flourish and help to bring about the kingdom of God. Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Ez 17:22-24; Ps 92; 2 Cor 5:6-10; Mk 4:26-34 Today's Gospel account has two brief parables, both about tiny things little seeds. The first is apparently about wheat and the second about mustard seeds, the smallest of all seeds. The farmer once he plants them, doesn t understand how the growth happens, he just knows that it does. If he plants seeds, waters and nourishes them, he knows they will produce and produce abundantly, the tiny little mustard seed growing into an unusually large bush. As Christians we ought to know by now that alone we can do nothing, but with God there's nothing we cannot do. So very often it is little things that turn into big things. A thought becomes a novel. A spark grows into a forest fire. An idea can change the whole world. In today s Gospel account Jesus speaks of mustard seeds and grains of wheat. Even though we may think we have little faith God can take it and make something wonderful out of it. God is always taking small and seemingly insignificant things and turning them into infinite worth. God guides by planting and offering thoughts and inspirations in our minds and hearts. He guides; He doesn t take control of our free wills. God guides by planting seeds of thoughts; He guides subtly, indirectly, in clues, in our hidden aspirations. With God, small beginnings can have amazing outcomes. So it is that with God we walk by faith, not by sight because God is in control when we let go and let God, when we nurture and care for what He has mysteriously planted deep inside us. We will not see instant results, something for which our surrounding culture has little patience because the world only understands immediate productivity. What we will see is the tremendous things God can produce from what little we have. We must walk by faith in order to see what God will do. Fr. 3 17 de Junio de er Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School Décimo Primer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Ez 17:22-24; Sal 92; 2 Cor 5:6-10; Mc 4:26-34 El relato del Evangelio de hoy tiene dos breves parábolas, ambas acerca de cosas diminutas: pequeñas semillas. La primera es en apariencia sobre trigo y la segunda sobre semillas de mostaza, la más pequeña de las semillas. El sembrador, cuando siembra, no entiende realmente como es que crecen, solo sabe que crecen. Si él siembra la semilla, la riega y la nutre, sabe que va a producir, y producirá abundantemente. La pequeña semilla de mostaza crece en un arbusto grande. Como cristianos debemos saber que solos no podemos hacer nada, pero con Dios no hay nada que no podamos hacer. Con frecuencia cosas pequeñas se convierten en algo grande. Un pensamiento se convierte en una novela. Una chispa crece y se convierte en un fuego forestal. Una idea puede cambiar al mundo entero. En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos habla de las semillas de mostaza y de los granos de trigo. Aunque creamos que tenemos poca fe, Dios puede convertirla en algo maravilloso. Dios está siempre tomando lo pequeño y aparentemente insignificante y convirtiéndolo en algo infinitamente valioso. Dios guía sembrando y procurando pensamientos e inspiraciones en nuestras mentes y en nuestros corazones. El nos guía, no toma control de nuestra libre voluntad. Dios guía sembrando semillas de pensamientos; Él guía sutilmente, indirectamente, con ideas, con aspiraciones ocultas. Con Dios, algo que comienza pequeño puede convertirse en algo sorprendente. De manera que con Dios caminamos a través de la fe, sin ver, porque Dios está en control cuando nos abandonamos a Él y dejamos que Dios nos alimente y nos cuide para aquello que Él misteriosamente ha plantado muy dentro de nosotros. No veremos resultados inmediatos, algo con lo que la cultura que nos rodea es muy impaciente porque el mundo solo entiende la productividad instantánea. Lo que veremos son las grandes obras que Dios puede hacer con lo poquito que tenemos. Debemos caminar a través de la fe para poder ver lo que Dios hace. Fr.
