2 Your baby s provider After your baby becomes a member of MajestaCare health plan, you will get a letter with the name of your baby s primary care provider (PCP). Call your baby s provider for the first visit before leaving the hospital. Most healthy babies are sent home within 48 hours after being born. New babies should be seen by their own PCP two to five days after being sent home. You will have questions about your baby s health and care. It s hard to remember the things you want to ask. Write down your questions when you think of them. Be sure to take your baby s member ID, your baby s shot record and your questions with you to the visits. You should always follow the information from your baby s PCP. Family and friends mean well, but your provider is best for information. Right after birth, your baby will be checked. Your baby needs to be checked again by the provider within two to five days after your bring your baby home. Your baby must see his/her provider for checkups many times the first year of life. This is because your baby will grow and change so much during their first year. At each check up your baby s PCP will weigh and measure your baby. The PCP will check your baby from head to toe. Your baby will also get immunizations (shots). Your baby s PCP can sometimes find problems you cannot see. Early care can keep many problems from becoming worse.

4 Shots are the gift of health. Some serious illnesses are easy to stop with shots. After some shots, your baby may be fussy or have a low fever for a few days. Check with your baby s PCP to see if you should give your baby anything after shots. Call the PCP if your baby s fever goes above 102 degrees. Take your baby s shot record with you to every checkup. Take good care of the shot record. Your child will need to show this record every year to start school. Your baby should have seven well-baby visits during the first year. Age 2-5 days 6-8 months 2-4 weeks 9-11 months 2-3 months months 4-5 months Keep your baby s seven well-baby visits and earn a $25 gift card.
