2 Introducción Las tecnologías de imagen médica emplean distintos principios físicos para obtener imágenes del cuerpo humano o partes de él. Con ellas podemos mejorar los procesos clínicos de diagnóstico y tratamiento, pero también son una herramienta imprescindible en la investigación sobre las bases anatómicas y fisiológicas de la enfermedad. En los últimos años se ha vivido una verdadera revolución en la imagen médica. El aumento en resolución y calidad de las tecnologías existentes, junto a la aparición de nuevas modalidades, permiten obtener una gran cantidad de información anatómica y funcional de forma eficiente. Por otra parte, los campos del procesado de imagen y la visión computacional han tenido que responder a la necesidad de manejar gran cantidad de información visual disponible, algo que ha sucedido tanto en medicina como en otros ámbitos de la sociedad digital. La combinación de los avances en adquisición de imagen y técnicas de visión computacional proporcionan al clínico y al investigador datos cuantitativos multimodales que mejoran el proceso de diagnóstico, la investigación de las distintas patologías y los procedimientos terapéuticos. La implantación real y sostenible de estas tecnologías en los escenarios clínicos requiere equipos multidisciplinares, un análisis profundo de las necesidades y un cambio en los protocolos de trabajo. En el simposio La visión Computacional se encuentra con la Medicina diversos expertos internacionales presentarán el estado del arte en imagen médica cuantitativa (modalidades de imagen, técnicas de análisis) y la aplicación de estas tecnologías en distintos campos de la medicina. La diversidad en los perfiles de los expertos participantes asegura una interesante combinación de visiones y conocimientos, algo imprescindible para asegurar el impacto de cualquier avance en el campo de salud.

3 Introduction Medical imaging technologies use different physical principles to image the human body or parts of it. They allow us to improve clinical diagnosis and treatment, but they are also an indispensable tool for research on the anatomical and physiological basis of disease. Medical imaging has experienced a revolution in recent times. The increase in resolution and quality of existing technologies, along with the appearance of new modalities, allows obtaining a great amount of anatomical and functional information very efficiently. On the other hand, the fields of image processing and computer vision have had to respond to the need of handling the large amount of visual information available, something that has happened both in medicine and in other areas of the digital society. The combination of advances in image acquisition and computer vision techniques provides the clinician and researcher multimodal quantitative data that improve the diagnostic process, the research on various diseases as well as therapeutic procedures. The efective and sustainable deployment of these technologies in clinical scenarios requires multidisciplinary teams, a thorough analysis of needs and a change in working protocols. The Computer Vision meets Medicine symposium brings together international experts that will present the state of the art in quantitative medical imaging (imaging modalities, analysis techniques) and the application of these technologies in different fields of medicine. The diverse profiles of the participating experts ensures an interesting combination of visions and knowledge, which is essential to ensure the impact of any progress in the health arena.
