From the very origins of humanity, God entered into a dialogue with man: he goes down to Paradise in the afternoons to converse with Adam and Eve... and, despite the unworthy response of man, God never closed that loving dialogue with the humanity. Moreover, he used the most varied resources (visions, oracles, punishments, prophecies, promises, blessings...) so as not to interrupt that dialogue and to make man's response less and less unworthy of God. The Word of God has not failed and it will not fail, because God is faithful, and in the supreme gesture of love and fidelity is embodied in the man Jesus, becoming entirely Word of God in human speech. This Word of God was never neutral over the centuries. It was a Word of love that sought a response of love; a Word of truth, that sought an answer of authenticity; a Word interested in the good of the interlocutor (man); a Word of donation, that looked for an answer of acceptance; a Word of mercy and forgiveness, which sought a response of conversion; a Word of solidarity to the point of becoming flesh, seeking a response of gratitude and joyful welcome... In this dialogue between God and man, how many times has man disappointed God, rejected his Word! But also, how many have welcomed her, and have corresponded to her, like Mary and Joseph! On this Christmas day, the Word of God speaks to us in the humanity of the Child Jesus. God's dialogue with us continues. The humanity, each believer, will have to give an answer. Which one is that answer? Today's Christians, like all men in general, are bombarded by thousands and millions of words every day, by grace and merit of the social media and by virtue of our social condition (home, office, workplace, parish), club...). In many cases there are words... but communication is not reached: a greeting, a comment on time, a question about the husband, the wife, the children, a goodbye... and that's enough. In many other cases, there are words or letters, but without reaching a true communication: I read by information, regardless of who writes; I listen to the radio or watch TV without much attention, to feel their company, to 'hang out' or to 'scream' for my favorite team. In these cases, the response to the interlocutor is poor. There are also other occasions in which there is a true dialogue, that is, an encounter of two intimacies (thought, heart, will, sensitivity), which open and give each other in different forms and degrees, depending on the relationship between them: husbands, friends, brothers, co-workers or profession... Faced with the enormous multiplicity of words that are daily heard and emitted, there is a danger of taking an attitude that is not very serious and superficial when the one who addresses us is the Word of God. We read, we listen to the Word of God in the Bible, in the Eucharistic or sacramental liturgy, and it may be that it "slips us" like when we listen and watch television. Perhaps it has diminished in us, Christians, the awareness that the Word of God is different from any human word: It seeks and wants to achieve dialogue, encounter, interpellation to conscience, the gift of salvation... All this has great validity at Christmas, when the Word of God becomes flesh, becomes a child who speaks with silence and with life. That Word of God-Child is shouting to us that the love of God is wonderful, surprising, extraordinarily faithful. What will you respond to this Child who challenges your freedom, your love and your conscience from the grotto of Bethlehem? 4 Page 4 Fourth Sunday of Advent December 24, 2017 NATIVIDAD DEL SEÑOR La palabra, en la experiencia humana, no existe sin interlocutor a quien dirigirla y que responda, dando de esta manera origen al diálogo. Desde los orígenes mismos de la humanidad, Dios entró en diálogo con el hombre: baja por las tardes al paraíso a conversar con Adán y Eva...y, a pesar de la respuesta indigna del hombre, Dios jamás cerró ese diálogo amoroso con la humanidad. Más aún, usó de los recursos más variados (visiones, oráculos, castigos, profecías, promesas, bendiciones...) para no interrumpir ese diálogo y para que la respuesta del hombre fuera cada vez menos indigna de Dios. La Palabra de Dios no ha fallado ni fallará, porque Dios es fiel, y en el supremo gesto de amor y de fidelidad se encarna en el hombre Jesús, haciéndose enteramente Palabra de Dios en palabra humana. Esta Palabra de Dios nunca fue neutra a lo largo de los siglos. Fue una Palabra de amor que buscaba una respuesta de amor; una Palabra de verdad, que buscaba una respuesta de autenticidad; una Palabra interesada en el bien del interlocutor (el hombre); una Palabra de donación, que buscaba una respuesta de aceptación; una Palabra de misericordia y de perdón, que buscaba una respuesta de conversión; una Palabra de solidaridad hasta el extremo de hacerse carne, que buscaba una respuesta de agradecimiento y de gozosa acogida... En este diálogo entre Dios y el hombre, cuántas, veces el hombre ha decepcionado a Dios, ha rechazado su Palabra! Pero también, cuántos la han acogido, y han correspondido a ella, como María y José! En este día de Navidad, la Palabra de Dios nos habla en la humanidad del Niño Jesús. El diálogo de Dios con nosotros, continúa. La humanidad, cada creyente, habrá de dar una respuesta. Cuál? Los cristianos de hoy, como los hombres todos en general, estamos bombardeados por miles y millones de palabras cada día, por gracia y mérito de los medios de comunicación social y en virtud de nuestra condición social (casa, oficina, lugar de trabajo, parroquia, club...). En muchos casos hay palabras...pero no se llega a la comunicación: un saludo, un comentario sobre el tiempo, una pregunta por el marido, la mujer, los hijos, un adiós...y basta. En otros muchos casos, hay palabras o letras, pero sin llegar tampoco a una verdadera comunicación: leo por información, prescindiendo de quién escribe; escucho la radio o veo la TV sin mucha atención, para sentir su compañía, para 'pasar el rato' o para 'gritar' por mi equipo favorito. En estos casos, la respuesta al interlocutor es pobre. Existen también otras ocasiones en que se da un verdadero diálogo, es decir, encuentro de dos intimidades (pensamiento, corazón, voluntad, sensibilidad), que se abren y se dan mutuamente en formas y grados diversos, según sea la relación entre ellos: esposos, amigos, hermanos, compañeros de trabajo o profesión... Ante la enorme multiplicidad de palabras que diariamente se escuchan y se emiten, se corre el peligro de tomar una actitud poco seria y superficial cuando quien se dirige a nosotros es la Palabra de Dios. Leemos, escuchamos la Palabra de Dios en la Biblia, en la liturgia eucarística o sacramental, y puede ser que 'nos resbale' como cuando escuchamos y vemos la televisión. Quizá ha disminuido en nosotros, cristianos, la conciencia de que la Palabra de Dios es diferente de cualquier palabra humana: Busca y quiere lograr el diálogo, el encuentro, la interpelación a la conciencia, el don de la salvación...todo esto tiene gran validez en Navidad, cuando la Palabra de Dios se hace carne, se hace un niño que habla con el silencio y con la vida. Esa Palabra de Dios-Niño está gritándonos que el amor de Dios es maravilloso, sorprendente, extraordinariamente fiel. Qué responderás a este Niño que interpela tu libertad, tu amor y tu conciencia desde la gruta de Belén? Solo quiero desearles una Feliz y Santa Navidad en compañía de todos sus seres queridos. Fr.
