Brief description of the subject This course develops all four macro-skills to enhance the student ability to cope with academic and professional communicative situations. Special attention is paid to those micro skills most useful for the main goal of the course. A task based approach is used. Complex communicative tasks are provided to allow the student use the resources previously drilled in class. Page 3 of 11

Assessment criteria Formative evaluation criteria: The final mark will be computed as follows: 2 Written tests ( one test every 3 units) 45%. 2 reading comprehension tests on 2 academic or professional texts. 15% Oral presentation 20% In-class tasks (group & individual). 20% In order to pass the course students should score 50% or higher in every single item. Summative evaluation: The final mark will be computed as follows: Final exam 65% Reading comprehension test on readings 15% Oral presentation summary and delivery 20% In order to pass the course students should score 50% or higher in all items.
