1 Student Name: Grade: CATECHIST: Gospel Question of the Week: January 28, th Sunday in Ordinary Time GRADES 1-5 Mark 1:21-28 People didn t know who Jesus was, and many were surprised that he taught with authority that is, with power. Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God and knew that he was doing God s work. 2 Gospel Question of the Week: February 4, th Sunday of Ordinary Time GRADES 1-5 Mark 1:29-39 A synagogue is a place where Jewish people gather for religious instruction and prayer. There was only one Temple, but many synagogues in Jesus time. In last week s Gospel, Jesus healed a man in the synagogue near Simon and Andrew s home, so they invite Jesus to stay. 3 Gospel Question of the Week: February 11, th Sunday of Ordinary Time GRADES 1-5 Mark 1:40-45 In today s Gospel reading, Jesus cures a man with leprosy. Leprosy was common during Jesus time, and because it could be contagious, people with leprosy were shunned and had to live away from others. 4 Gospel Question of the Week: February 18, st Sunday of Lent GRADES 1-5 Mark 1:12-15 We have begun our first week of Lent, our retreat time in preparation for Easter! In the Gospel story today, Jesus goes into the wilderness for 40 days. In Bible stories, wilderness means a harsh and lonely place. Lent is a special time to examine how we live out our faith among the good and the bad, and to do something to change our lives. Marcos 1: Hemos comenzado nuestra primera semana de Cuaresma, nuestro tiempo de retiro en preparación para la Pascua! En la historia del Evangelio de hoy, Jesús va al desierto por 40 días. En las historias bíblicas, desierto significa un lugar duro y solitario. Quién ministró a Jesús en el desierto? Jesus was tempted just as you and I are. He never sinned but He does understand what we go through as we struggle to resist temptation. How does it make you feel knowing this?

5 Gospel Question of the Week: February 25, nd Sunday of Lent GRADES 1-5 Mark 9:2-10 The two people who appeared to Jesus on top of the mountain are the two greatest prophets in the Jewish tradition. And it was said that before the Messiah makes his appearance, Elijah will appear on the mountain and announce it. This prophecy came true! And Jesus is transfigured which means changed. Marcos 9: 2-10 Las dos personas que se aparecieron a Jesús en la cima de la montaña son los dos profetas más grandes en la tradición judía. Y se dijo que antes de que el Mesías haga su aparición, Elijah aparecerá en la montaña y lo anunciará. Esta profecía se hizo realidad! Y Jesús se transfiguró, lo que significa "cambiado." Who appeared on top of the mountain? Quién apareció en la cima de la montaña? We were not there on the mountain top to see Jesus in His glory or to hear God the Father say, This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him. The best we can do is read this story and imagine what it was like to be there that day. How would you have reacted?
