1 Lesson 50: if, because, when Lección 50: si, porque, cuando Reading (Lectura) If it rains, I ll stay here. ( Si llueve, me quedo aquí ) We can go on a picnic if you want. ( Podemos ir a un picnic si quieres ) You will be able to pass the exam if you work hard. ( Tú será capaz de pasar el examen si se trabaja duro ) They got their job because their presentation was excellent. ( Ellos consiguieron su trabajo debido a que su presentación fue excelente ) Because the police caught him driving while drunk, he lost his license. ( Debido a que la policía lo atrapó conduciendo en estado de ebriedad, perdió su licencia ) Because he is sick, he cannot come. (Por que él está enfermo, no puede.) 1
2 I brought you a jacket because it was cold outside. (Te traje una chamara porque estaba frío afuera.) When he was fired, he cried a lot. ( Cuando él fue despedido, lloró mucho ) I will go out when the weather improves. ( Voy a salir cuando el tiempo mejore) When we are done, let s get some ice cream. ( Cuando hayamos terminado, vamos por un helado ) Grammar focus (Enfoque gramatical) If, because y when son llamados conjunctions, cuya función es conbinar 2 frases o cláusulas. If Indica una condición que debe cumplirse para que un evento que tenga lugar. Because indica la causa de un evento, y when indica el tiempo en el que algo sucede. E.g.)If you go to school, I will go with you. (Si vas a la escuela, voy a ir contigo) I will not go to school today because it rains very hard. (No voy a ir a la escuela porque está lloviendo muy fuerte) When you went to school, I cleaned the house. (Cuando fuiste a la escuela, yo limpié la casa.) 2
3 Speaking (Hablando) 1) If you pass your exams, I will buy you a new cellphone. (Si pasas tus exámenes, te comprar é um celular nuevo.) 2) If you find out first, please let me know. (Si lo descubres primero, por favor avísame.) 3) This party will be fantastic if he can attend.
