Simple future: will Futuro simple: will Por: Blanca Rosa González En esta lectura, vas a aprender las reglas gramaticales para escribir oraciones en tiempo futuro simple con el verbo modal auxiliar will. La forma de conjugar will será igual para todas las personas (sujeto o pronombres personales). In this reading, you are going to learn the grammar rules to write sentences in future simple tense with the modal auxiliary verb will. The form we conjugate will is going to be the same with all the subjects or personal pronouns. Usos Uses Will es usado: 1. Para expresar una intención tomada en el momento en que se está hablando, es decir, cuando se toma una decisión en ese mismo instante. 1. To express a future decision or intention made at the moment of speaking (Soars, 2001, p. 144). Dicha decisión se da espontáneamente, y es común al recibir alguna información nueva. Ejemplos (examples): Imagina que te acabas de enterar de la siguiente información: A It s Raquel last day of class. Este es el último día de clases de Raquel. Really? She ll be very happy. En serio? Ella estará muy feliz. 1
B: Our dear aunt is in my grandma s house. Nuestra querida tía está en casa de mi abuela. Good! I ll visit her this evening. Bien! La visitaré esta tarde. C: My grandfather needs to stay at the hospital. Mi abuelo se tiene que quedar en el hospital. He ll need to follow the doctor s advice. El necesitará seguir los consejos del doctor. 2. Usamos will para predecir (lo que pensamos que sucederá en el futuro). 2. We use will for a prediction (what we think will happen), (Eastwood, 1992, p. 40). Ejemplos (examples): I ll be fifteen next Monday. Tendré quince años el próximo lunes. I listened to the weather news. Today will rain. Escuché las noticias del clima. Hoy lloverá. She studied hard last week. She will get a good grade. Ella estudio muy duro la última semana. Obtendrá una buena calificación. He followed the doctor s advice. He will be healthy soon.
Iniciando a partir del verbo auxiliar will. Se busca obtener una respuesta corta afirmativa o negativa. Observa el orden de la estructura: Figura 3. Fórmula para crear enunciados interrogativos en futuro simple. (Soars & Soars, 2001). Ejemplos de preguntas solo con will Will you marry Peter soon? Yes, I will. Vas a casarte con Peter pronto? Sí, lo haré. Will you visit your grandfather? No, I won t (I m afraid I can t). Visitarás a tu abuelo? No, no lo haré (Me temo que no puedo). 4
Ejemplos de preguntas con question words What will you do if you see a UFO? Maybe I will be very scared! Qué harías si vieras un OVNI? Tal vez me asuste mucho! What will you do if you win the lottery? I will buy a new house! Qué harías si ganaras la lotería? Me compraría una casa! Respuesta corta: Afirmativa Short answer: affirmative La estructura de respuestas cortas afirmativas es la siguiente: Yes, I he she it we you they will Figura 4. Respuestas cortas con «will» (Soars, L & Soars, J., 2001). 5
Respuesta corta: Negativa Short answer: negative No es común contestar No, I won t, debido a que se considera de mala educación o descortés, pues significa yo no quiero ayudarte, por lo que la forma apropiada de responder de forma educada es: I m afraid I can t (me temo que no puedo). I m I He s he She s she It s We re afraid it we can t. You re you They re they Figura 4. Respuestas educadas utilizando la negación de «can» para negar oraciones con «will» (Soars & Soars, 2001).
