Introduction Rev. 01, 08/2013 Replaces , 12/2001 This bulletin provides installation, operation, and maintenance instructions for the Type VR Electric Racking Device (ERD) shown in Figure 1. ENGLISH Figure 1: Length: 50 ft. (15.2 m) Type VR Electric Racking Device The ERD is used for electrically installing and removing Type VR circuit breakers, ground and test (G&T) devices, and removable shorting (RS) devices to and from the CONNECTED position in the circuit breaker compartment. The ERD is rated 120 V, 60 Hz and has a 50 ft. (15.2 m) long cord to allow for remote racking. The ERD contains a clutch that limits the torque applied to the circuit breaker racking gears to 18 lb-ft. (24.5 N m). The ERD output shaft rotates the racking shaft through the racking port in the circuit breaker compartment door (Figure 1) Schneider Electric All Rights Reserved

2 Type VR Electric Racking Device Safety Precautions Rev. 01, 08/2013 ENGLISH Safety Precautions This section contains important safety precautions that must be followed to install, service, or maintain electrical equipment. Carefully read and follow the safety precautions outlined below. DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. See NFPA 70E or CSA Z462. Only qualified personnel familiar with medium voltage equipment are to perform work described in this set of instructions. Workers must understand the hazards involved in working with or near medium voltage circuits. Perform such work only after reading and understanding all the instructions contained in this bulletin. Before performing visual inspections, tests, or maintenance on this equipment, disconnect all sources of electric power. Assume all circuits are live until they are completely de-energized, tested, grounded, and tagged. Pay particular attention to the design of the power system. Consider all sources of power, including the possibility of backfeeding. Use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm that the power is OFF. Handle this equipment carefully and install, operate, and maintain it correctly in order for it to function properly. Neglecting fundamental installation and maintenance requirements may lead to personal injury, as well as damage to electrical equipment or other property. Never attempt to hold this device while it is in operation. Strong operating torques can entangle hands or arms and cause severe injury. Do not make any modifications to the equipment or operate the system with the interlocks removed. Contact your local Schneider Electric representative for additional instructions if the equipment does not function as described in this manual. Carefully inspect your work area and remove any tools and objects left inside the equipment. Replace all devices, doors, and covers before turning on the power to this equipment or energizing the switchgear. All instructions in this manual are written with the assumption that the customer has taken these measures before performing maintenance or testing. 3 Type VR Electric Racking Device Rev. 01, 08/2013 Receiving, Handling, and Storage Receiving, Handling, and Storage Receiving Upon receipt, check the packing list against the equipment received to verify the order and shipment are complete. Claims for shortages or errors must be made in writing to Schneider Electric within 60 days after delivery. Failure to give such notice will constitute unqualified acceptance and a waiver of all such claims by the purchaser. Immediately inspect the ERD for any damage that may have occurred in transit. If damage is found or suspected, file a claim with the carrier immediately and notify Schneider Electric. Delivery of equipment to a carrier at any of the Schneider Electric plants or other shipping point constitutes delivery to the purchaser regardless of freight payment and title. All risk of loss or damage passes to the purchaser at that time. Refer to Schneider Electric Terms and Conditions of Sale. ENGLISH Handling Use care when unpacking and handling the ERD. The device weighs about 21 lb. (9.5 kg). CAUTION HAZARD OF PERSONAL INJURY Never attempt to hold this device while it is in operation. 4 Type VR Electric Racking Device Installation Rev. 01, 08/2013 ENGLISH Installation Installing the Circuit Breaker into the TEST/DISCONNECT Position If an ERD is shipped with the switchgear, a door-mounted, ERD support bushing well is factory installed (see Figure 2 on page 1). Contact your local Schneider Electric representative if these items are needed but were not ordered with the switchgear. Refer to the installation chapter in Schneider Electric instruction bulletin # , Type VR Vacuum Circuit Breaker, 4.76 kv, 8.25 kv, and 15 kv, A, to install a circuit breaker or other devices into the TEST/DISCONNECT position of the compartment. Operation To rack the circuit breaker or other devices from the TEST/DISCONNECT position to the CONNECTED position, follow steps 1 6 (see Figure 3). CAUTION HAZARD OF PERSONAL INJURY Before installing or removing the ERD, verify that the power plug is not connected to a power source. Never attempt to hold this device while it is in operation. Verify that the circuit breaker is in the OPEN (O) position. If not, operate the circuit breaker manually until the mechanism springs are discharged and the indicators on the circuit breaker read OPEN (O) and DISCHARGED. NOTE: If racking a G&T or an RS device, refer to the instruction bulletin supplied with the device for proper instructions before attempting to rack it into the compartment. 2. Close and securely fasten the circuit breaker compartment door. 3. Mount the ERD on the compartment door. 5 Type VR Electric Racking Device Rev. 01, 08/2013 Operation Notes: When a circuit breaker or other device has been completely racked in, a clicking sound is generated. This is caused by the ERD clutch slipping as it runs up against the stops. The push button can be released at any time during the racking procedure to stop the procedure. 4. Stretch out the operator cord as far as possible to allow maximum operating clearance for personnel. Plug the ERD into a 120 Vac outlet. 5. Press and hold the RACK IN push button (Figure 2 on page 1) until a loud clicking sound is heard (approximately 6 seconds after pressing the push button). Release the push button immediately when the clicking sound begins. Verify that the racking position indicator on the compartment door reads CONNECTED (Figure 4). NOTE: Do not close the circuit breaker unless the indicator on the circuit breaker compartment door shows fully CONNECTED. 6. Upon completion of the racking procedure, disconnect the power plug from the power source. Remove the ERD from the circuit breaker compartment door. 6 Type VR Electric Racking Device Operation Rev. 01, 08/2013 ENGLISH Racking the Circuit Breaker from the CONNECTED Position to the TEST/DISCONNECT Position CONNECTED TO TEST DISCONNECT Follow these instructions to rack out the circuit breaker from the CONNECTED position to the TEST/DISCONNECT position. Figure 5: ERD with Circuit Breaker in the CONNECTED Position The circuit breaker position indicator flag shows RED and reads CONNECTED. 1. Open the circuit breaker. Verify that the circuit breaker is in the OPEN (O) position. Remove the control power fuses to the circuit breaker closing/opening/charging circuits. 2. Close and securely fasten the circuit breaker compartment door. 3. Mount the ERD on the compartment door. 4. Stretch out the operator cord as far as possible to allow maximum operating clearance for personnel. Plug the ERD into a 120 Vac outlet. 5. The full-wave rectifier (D1) reduces the motor speed. Capacitor (C1) and surge protector (V1) protect the rectifier (D1). Pressing the RACK IN push button makes the output shaft rotate counter-clockwise (when looking into the output shaft). Pressing the RACK OUT push button rotates the output shaft clockwise. The torque limiting clutch is factory-set at 18 ft-lbs (24.5 N m) output and should not be adjusted. When ordering replacement parts, be sure to specify the part number, part description, and the class number from the Schneider Electric catalog where this information was obtained. If your ERD should become damaged or you encounter problems making repairs or replacing parts, return it to Schneider Electric for repair. El DEI/E se utiliza para instalar y retirar eléctricamente interruptores automáticos tipo VR, dispositivos de tierra y prueba (TyP) y dispositivos extraíbles de cortocircuito (ECC) a la y de la posición de CONECTADO en el compartimiento del interruptor automático. El DEI/E es de 120 V, 60 Hz y tiene un cordón de 15,2 m (50 pies) de largo para la inserción/extracción remota. Asegúrese de leer y seguir detenidamente las precauciones de seguridad delineadas a continuación. ESPAÑOL PELIGRO PELIGRO DE DESCARGA ELÉCTRICA, EXPLOSIÓN O DESTELLO POR ARQUEO Utilice equipo de protección personal (EPP) apropiado y siga las prácticas de seguridad en trabajos eléctricos establecidas por su Compañía, consulte la norma 70E de NFPA o Z462 de CSA y NOM-029-STPS. Solamente el personal calificado, familiarizado con el equipo de media tensión, deberá realizar el trabajo descrito en este conjunto de instrucciones. Las reclamaciones por piezas faltantes o errores deberán hacerse por escrito a Schneider Electric dentro de los 60 días después de la entrega. Si un DEI/S se envía con el tablero de fuerza, un casquillo de soporte del DEI/E montado en la puerta, es instalado en la fábrica (figura 2, página 1). Póngase en contacto con su representante local de Schneider Electric si necesita estos artículos, pero no los solicitó durante la orden con el tablero de fuerza. PELIGRO DE LESIÓN PERSONAL PRECAUCIÓN ESPAÑOL Antes de instalar o extraer el DEI/E, compruebe que el enchufe de la alimentación no esté conectado a una fuente de alimentación. Nunca intente sujetar el dispositivo mientras está en funcionamiento. Fuertes pares de funcionamiento pueden enredar las manos o los brazos y causar lesiones graves El incumplimiento de estas instrucciones puede causar lesiones personales o daño al equipo. 1. Verifique que el interruptor automático está en la posición de abierto (O). Si no es así, haga funcionar el interruptor manualmente hasta que los resortes del mecanismo se descarguen y los indicadores del interruptor automático muestren "OPEN (O)" abierto y "DISCHARGED" descargado. NOTA: Si va a insertar un dispositivo de TyP o de ECC, consulte el boletín de instrucciones suministrado con el dispositivo para obtener instrucciones adecuadas antes de intentar insertarlo en el compartimiento. 2. Cierre y sujete firmemente la puerta del compartimiento del interruptor automático. 3. Monte el DEI/E en la puerta del compartimiento. Esto es causado por el embrague del DEI/E que sigue deslizándose contra los topes. El botón pulsador puede soltarse en cualquier momento durante la inserción para parar el procedimiento. 4. Extienda el cordón del operador al máximo para permitir la separación máxima de operación para el personal. Enchufe el DEI/E en un tomacorriente de 120 V~. 5. Oprima y mantenga oprimido el botón de inserción (figura 2 en la página 1) hasta que se escuche un "clic" fuerte (aproximadamente 6 segundos después de oprimir el botón). Suelte el botón inmediatamente cuando empieza el sonido de clic. Compruebe que el indicador de posición de inserción en la puerta del compartimiento tenga la leyenda "CONNECTED" (conectado), figura 4. NOTA: No cierre el interruptor a menos que el indicador en la puerta del compartimiento del interruptor automático muestre completamente "CONNECTED" (conectado). 6. Una vez finalizado el procedimiento de inserción, desconecte el enchufe de la fuente de alimentación. Desmonte el DEI/E de la puerta del compartimiento del interruptor automático. Abra el interruptor. Verifique que el interruptor automático está en la posición de abierto (O). Retire los fusibles de la alimentación de control en los circuitos de cierre / apertura / carga del interruptor automático. 2. Cierre y sujete firmemente la puerta del compartimiento del interruptor. 3. Monte el DEI/E en la puerta del compartimiento. 4. Extienda el cordón del operador al máximo para permitir la separación máxima de operación para el personal. Enchufe el DEI/E en un tomacorriente de 120 V~. 5. El rectificador de onda completa (D1) reduce la velocidad del motor. El capacitor (C1) y protector de sobretensiones transitorias (V1) protegen el rectificador (D1). Al oprimir el botón de inserción el eje del dispositivo gira a la izquierda (en sentido contrario de las manecillas del reloj) si está parado frente al dispositivo. Al oprimir el botón de extracción gira el eje del dispositivo a la derecha (en sentido de las manecillas del reloj). El embrague limitador de par se ajusta en la fábrica en 24,5 N m (18 lbs-pie) y no debe ser ajustado. Al solicitar piezas de repuesto, asegúrese de especificar el número de pieza, descripción de la pieza y el número de la clase del catálogo de Schneider Electric, donde se obtuvo esta información.
