2 Dear LAUSD Stakeholder/Community Member: This year, the California Department of Education (CDE) is using a new method to give money to school districts called the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The new LCFF gives money to school districts based on needs of students, including English Learners, students who qualify for free or reduced meals and foster youth. The new LCFF method requires LAUSD to verify and submit to the CDE every student s eligibility for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Free and Reduced-Price Meal (FRPM) program. The CDE will use the information submitted by LAUSD to determine the District s current and future funding allocations. For many schools, the District will use the data contained in FRPM meal applications submitted earlier this year to meet the new LCFF requirement. However, nearly 400 LAUSD schools are identified as having non-base year Provision 2 status, which allows all students within those schools to participate in the meal program without submission of an annual meal application. For these schools, LAUSD has developed an alternative eligibility collection process to obtain the required information needed to meet the new LCFF requirements. It is vital that we collect and submit this data so our schools can receive funding that accurately accounts for student needs. This process is for the sole purpose of determining District funding allocations and does not impact any student s participation in the school meal program. Note that not all students in Provision 2 schools will receive a form. The CDE does not require LAUSD to provide eligibility information for students who qualify for the FRPM program through direct certification, which includes families that participate in county welfare programs (for example, school-age recipients of CalFresh, CalWORKS, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, foster care recipients, etc.). We need our entire school community to help promote the completion of the Household Income Form by families who receive them! 3 Household Income Form Local Control Funding Formula Toolkit Message Points for Parents/Community This year, the California Department of Education (CDE) is using a new method to give money to school districts called the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). LAUSD is following a new statewide process to meet the new LCFF requirements. As part of this new process, LAUSD is required to verify and submit to the State every student's eligibility to participate in the Free and Reduced Price Meal Program. The State will use this information to determine how much money the District receives. At some schools, student eligibility will be verified using the information provided from meal applications submitted at the start of the school year. Our school did not need to collect meal applications this school year, so we need to provide information through a separate form called the Household Income Form. The information collected in the Household Income Form is 100% confidential and will not be used for any other purpose. Completing the Household Income Form will not affect whether a student can participate in the meal program. We want to reassure you that your child(ren) will continue to have access to school meals. Depending on how many children you have attending LAUSD schools required to go through this process, you may receive more than one form. It is important that you fill out and turn in each form you receive. Not every student at this school will receive a form. The State already has eligibility information for students participating in other public benefit programs, and will not require forms for these students. Every form counts. Turning in your form means more money for our schools. We want to make sure our students receive the resources they need to succeed. It is very important that you fill out these forms and turn them in by our school's due date. This information will determine how much money our schools receive through the new LCFF.
