2 Mrs. Collins s Corner To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything. Thomas Merton Dear Saint Raphael Parents and Friends: We celebrate Thanksgiving this week and while I could write about gratitude, I choose to write about stuffing. I grew up eating my mother s stuffing, which never went inside the turkey. It was one of the best dishes on the Thanksgiving table. As I grew older I had to accept the fact that stuffing was usually stuffed into the turkey. My point is that I didn t have to cling to the idea of stuffing that I grew up with; I could appreciate all the other stuffing recipes out there. I could appreciate the differences! Saint Raphael School is a beautiful blend of different languages, different skin tones, different financial situations, different abilities, and different religions. Each child comes to our school with experiences and learns to appreciate the different experiences of those around him/her. By listening and learning about our differences we come to where we can smile and realize that there is much that we have in common, too. That is what I am grateful for this Thanksgiving. We cannot come to that place of peaceful acceptance of others differences without Christ s model of kindness and compassion. So in order to focus on that peace in the coming Advent season, we are encouraging families to have an Advent wreath in their home. The Advent tradition of preparing for Christ s coming at Christmas, gives all of us a few moments around the dinner table to pray for peace in our hearts and in our world. Our Thanksgiving Feast last Friday filled the entire gym with students, parents, teachers, members of our parish staff, and members of our Contact Committee. Those who were new to the experience were amazed! Thank you to Terry and Patricia Bardoul and the many parents who helped make this shared meal a wonderful experience. If you are here on Friday, Nov. 25 (the day after Thanksgiving), join us in the float decoration and the Parade of Lights. Decorating begins in the East parking yard at 3:00 pm in order to line up at 5:00 pm at the corner of E St. and Fifth Ave. Every year I am so proud of our students and families that participate in the parade. Come be a part of Saint Raphael School s float! With Thanksgiving around the corner, I am grateful for our teachers, who spend long hours planning lessons, grading papers, and touching the hearts and minds of your children our children, who teach me the wonder of learning something new each day our parents, who make incredible sacrifices to give their children a faith-filled education our school community, where we can pray together for peace To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything. 3 Mrs. Collins s Corner "Ser agradecido es reconocer el amor de Dios en todo." Thomas Merton Estimados Padres y Amigos de Saint Raphael: Celebramos el Día de Acción de Gracias esta semana y mientras yo podría escribir sobre la gratitud, elijo escribir sobre el stuffing.. Crecí comiendo el stuffing de mi madre, que ella nunca lo cocino en el pavo. Fue uno de los mejores platos en la mesa. A medida que crecí tuve que aceptar el hecho de que "stuffing" por lo general se rellena en el pavo. Mi punto es que no tuve que aferrarse a la idea de stuffing con que crecí; Podría apreciar todas las otras recetas de stuffing que hay. Yo podría apreciar las diferencias. Saint Raphael School es una hermosa mezcla de diferentes lenguajes, diferentes tonos de piel, diferentes situaciones financieras, diferentes habilidades y diferentes religiones. Cada niño viene a nuestra escuela con experiencias y aprende a apreciar las diferentes experiencias de quienes lo rodean. Al escuchar y aprender acerca de nuestras diferencias, llegamos a donde podemos sonreír y darnos cuenta de que hay mucho que tenemos en común, también. Eso es lo que estoy agradecido por este Día de Acción de Gracias. No podemos llegar a ese lugar de aceptación pacífica de las diferencias ajenas sin el modelo de bondad y compasión de Cristo. Así que para concentrarnos en esa paz en la próxima temporada de Adviento, estamos animando a las familias a tener una corona de Adviento en su hogar. La tradición del Adviento de prepararse para la venida de Cristo en Navidad, nos da a todos unos momentos alrededor de la mesa para orar por la paz en nuestros corazones y en nuestro mundo. Nuestro almuerzo de Gracias el viernes pasado llenó todo el gimnasio con estudiantes, padres, maestros, miembros de nuestro personal de la parroquia y miembros de nuestro Comité de Contacto. Los que eran nuevos en la experiencia estaban asombrados! Gracias a Terry y Patricia Bardoul y los muchos padres que ayudaron a hacer esta comida compartida una experiencia maravillosa. Si usted está aquí el viernes, 25 de noviembre (el día después de Acción de Gracias), únase a nosotros en la decoración de flotadores y el desfile de luces. La decoración comienza en el estacionamiento de la escuela a las 3:00 pm para alinearse a las 5:00 pm en la esquina de E St. y Fifth Ave. Cada año estoy muy orgulloso de nuestros estudiantes y familias que participan en el desfile. Ven a ser parte de la flota de la Escuela Saint Raphael! Con Thanksgiving a la vuelta de la esquina, estoy agradecido por nuestros maestros, que pasan largas horas planeando lecciones, calificando papeles y tocando los corazones y las mentes de sus hijos Nuestros hijos, que me enseñan la maravilla de aprender algo nuevo cada día Nuestros padres, que hacen sacrificios increíbles para dar a sus hijos una educación llena de fe nuestra comunidad escolar, donde podemos orar juntos por la paz Ser agradecido es reconocer el amor de Dios en todo.
