1 Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Dear Fox Chapel Parents: The purpose of this letter is to inform all parents of the arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure the safety of all children at our school. These procedures will be in place beginning Monday, August 29. We ask for your cooperation in following these procedures and thank you in advance for your support. In the event that there are changes in your child s regular transportation, notification must be in writing and given to the classroom teacher. It is impossible to ensure last minute changes and we are obligated for safety reasons to have written permission from parents/legal guardians for any changes in transportation. Students will not be checked out after 3:05 p.m. and must wait until dismissal at 3:25 p.m. to protect the instructional day and ensure a safe and orderly dismissal. Arrival Procedures: School instruction starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Students eating breakfast can enter the multipurpose room at 8:30 a.m. The school doors will open at 8:45 a.m. Please be sure to have your child at school by 8:45 so they can prepare for the start of instruction at 9:00 a.m. Lower Level/Back Door Parking Lot Arrival: Parents are asked to drop off their children in grades Pre-K, Kindergarten (including siblings), 3 rd and 4 th in the lower level/back door parking lot. These students will enter the building through the lower level/back door parking lot entrance at 8:45 a.m. Front Door Arrival: Parents dropping off students in grades 1 st, 2 nd and 5 th and those eating breakfast, should be dropped off along Archdale Road and enter through the school s front door entrance of the building. This location includes all bus riders and students participating in the breakfast program. Dismissal Procedures: The school day officially ends at 3:25 p.m. Students will not be checked out after 3:05 p.m... This time is dedicated to teachers preparing students for dismissal. Car Rider Dismissal: Car riders are the first group of students to be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. Students who ride home in a car must exit through the lower level/back door parking lot. Staff members will check them off our carpool list. Parents of car riders should fill out a Car Rider Application from the office. Families will receive a yellow colored card with their last name to place on the right front side of their vehicle

2 window. Please display these cards when picking up your children at dismissal time. Any authorized adult who is picking up your child should display this card in the vehicle window. Walker Dismissal: Students who walk home from school will be dismissed through the front door entrance. Walkers in grades 4 th and 5 th will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. and grades Kindergarten 3 rd at 3:28 p.m. Any parent who does not drive a car to school and wants to pick up their child in person will wait outside of the front entrance in the designated area behind the orange cones. For safety reasons, parents are not allowed to pick up children in the hallways. This is disruptive to our dismissal procedures. To effectively dismiss students, we need to establish a clear and orderly main lobby area. Parents are reminded to follow all pedestrian safety procedures including walking on sidewalks, use of crosswalk with crossing guard and waiting for buses to move before walking to the car in the parking lot. Bus Riders Dismissal: Students are dismissed to buses directly from their classrooms at 3:30 and will exit from the cafeteria doors. Bus rider dismissal will be announced from the main office. Van Pick-ups: Students picked up by aftercare vans will be dismissed as the vans arrive in the bus lines. These students will exit at the front of the building. They are to go directly to the designated van. ARE YOU AN AFTERNOON CAR RIDER? If your child is a car rider at the end of the day, please follow the routine noted below so that our children are safe during dismissal time. Pick up your child at the lower level/back door parking lot area. Do not use the front entrance as that is designated for walkers, bus and van pick up. Remind your child to remain back on the sidewalk until signaled by the duty person to go to your car. Please continue to move around the parking lot area until all cars have stopped. Please do not block traffic from Archdale Rd. Proceed slowly and be watchful of the children waiting on the sidewalk. Thank you for your cooperation!
