2 Saint Charles Parish San Diego / Imperial Beach Page Two From the Pastor As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." To him Jesus said, "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God." In today s gospel reading Jesus determines resolutely to begin his final journey to Jerusalem where he will cleanse the Temple, give us the Eucharist, take our sins upon himself, and put those sins to death in his death. Finally, he will glorify our human nature by rising from the dead. As he starts this journey he urgently gives a kind of last call for people to follow him. This is going to be the last time that most everyone in Jesus day is going to hear and see him in the flesh. Now is the time to embrace his call whole-heartedly. To be a follower of Jesus is not something one can do in half measures. Jesus is quite plain in his language about being a disciple. No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God. If one begins to plow a field and doesn t watch where he s going what kind of job is he going to do? A poor one with lots of crooked lines. In a similar manner so goes discipleship. If one tries to be Christian while at the same time desiring a life left behind or the distractions of a life that is not compatible with Christianity he s going to be a mess and his life s work may just end up being entirely futile. Our call is to embrace our faith with every fiber of our being. No half measures! It is only then that work we do in this life will bear good fruit in this life and the next.

Bond with fellow parishioners over a cup of coffee, delicious bake goods and other delicious foods. The DMI Group will host the Bake Sale, Sunday, July 3. MISSION COOPERATION PLAN Sister Mary Dietz, SSND is with us this weekend to share her missionary story and invite us to partnership in the ministries of her religious congregation, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, in Africa. If you are not prepared to respond to her appeal today, please take home the special envelope and drop your contribution in the collection basket next week; checks can be made out to the parish. This is an opportunity for our parish to share in the work of the Church in mission lands. The need is great; please be generous. COINS AND CANS WEEKEND is next weekend. All coins received in the offering will be donated to St. Charles Food Bank to re-supply its pantry. Cereals are always welcome as well as easy open cans/containers. Food and baby items brought to the church will be distributed to the people of our own parish or given to BIRTHLINE to help expectant mothers in need. God bless you for your consistent generosity. PETER PENCE COLLECTION NEXT week, our (arch) diocese will take up the Peter's Pence Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Join our Holy Father as a witness of charity to those who are suffering. Prayer Quilt Ministry St. Charles Prayer & Squares meet the first Saturday of each month, , in the Nutrition Center. Our next meeting is scheduled for July 2, all are welcome to attend. CATECHETICAL CENTER School Year REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We are now accepting registrations for children, youth, and adult faith formation classes during our regular office hours: Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-4pm. 5 Page Five Decimo Tercer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 26 de Junio de 2016 Del Pastor Mientras iban de camino, alguien le dijo a Jesús:, "Te seguiré a dondequiera que vayas." Jesús le respondió: "Las zorras tienen madrigueras y los pájaros, nidos; pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene dónde reclinar la cabeza." A otro, Jesús le dijo: "Sígueme." Pero él le respondió, "Señor, déjame ir primero a enterrar á mi padre." Jesús le replico: "Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos. Tu, ve y anuncia el Reino de Dios." Otro le dijo: "Te seguiré, Señor, pero déjame primero despedirme de mi familia." Jesús le contesto: "El que empuña el arado y mira hacia atrás, no sirve para el Reino de Dios." En el evangelio de hoy Jesús determina resueltamente comenzar su último viaje a Jerusalén donde va a purificar el Templo, darnos la Eucaristía, tomar sobre sí nuestros pecados, y dar muerte a esos pecados en su muerte. Por último, él glorificará nuestra naturaleza humana, resucitando de entre los muertos. Al empezar este viaje él da una especie de "Última llamada" para que la gente lo siga. Esta va a ser la última vez que la mayoría de las personas en los días de Jesús lo va a escuchar y verlo de carne y hueso. Ahora es el momento de acoger su llamado de todo corazón. Para ser un seguidor de Jesús no es algo que uno pueda hacer en medidas medias. Jesús es muy claro en su lenguaje acerca de ser un discípulo. "El que empuña el arado y mira hacia atrás, no sirve para el Reino de Dios." Si uno comienza a arar un campo y no mira por donde va qué tipo de trabajo es el que va a hacer? Uno muy pobre con un montón de renglones torcidos. De una manera similar así va el discipulado. Si uno intenta ser cristiano y al mismo tiempo esta deseando la vida que dejo atrás o las distracciones de una vida que no es compatible con el Cristianismo, va a ser un lío y la obra de su vida sólo puede terminar siendo totalmente inútil. Nuestro llamado es a abrazar nuestra fe con cada fibra de nuestro ser. No a medias! Es sólo entonces que el trabajo que hacemos en esta vida dará buenos frutos en esta vida y la siguiente.
