Una Razon porque es importante registrarse en la parroquia One reason why it is important to register in the parish Cada año publicamos un anuncio en el boletín y aun así tenemos familias que vienen a la oficina parroquial a pedir cartas de recomendación, cartas para inmigración, cartas para ser padrinos, cartas declarando que han estado registrados por un numero de años. Desafortunadamente, muchas de estas familias no están registradas en la parroquia. Ellos reclaman que asisten a misa todos los domingos y conocen al sacerdote que celebra ciertas misas. Tratamos de trabajar con estas familias porque sabemos lo importante que es esta documentación para las oficinas del gobierno y otras agencias. Cuando no están registrados tenemos que encontrar otras maneras de poder ayudarlos a solucionar este proceso, no les negamos las cartas simplemente que es más difícil para el personal de la oficina de encontrar una solución legal. Estar registrado es muy importante para las familias en nuestra comunidad porque sirve como un recurso de recomendación y se puede utilizar. Every year we have announcements in the bulletin of why this is important and yet we still get families that come to the parish office asking for letters of recommendation, letters for immigration and letters stating that they have been registered in the parish for a number of years. Unfortunately, many of these families are not registered in the parish. They claim to come every Sunday and they state that they know the priest that says a particular mass. We try to work with the families because we know how important documentation is for government offices and other agencies. If the families are registered in the parish it makes things very easy because we have back up documentation that proves the family is registered in the parish. When they are not registered we have to figure out ways we can help them figure out a process, we do not deny them letters it just makes it more difficult for the office staff. Being registered is very important for families in our community because it serves as one source of recommendation that can be used.

4 Week of March 19, 2017 YOUTH PAGE Page Four Most of you are familiar with Casa Romero on 46th and Honore, where we have our After-School Program and Kid s Café. But do you know who Casa Romero is named after? In the 1970 s there was an Archbishop, Oscar Romero, in El Salvador, who stood at the side of the poor suffering under government oppression. Those who protested were often tortured and shot during those years, over 75,000 Salvadorans were killed. On March 24, 1980, Archbishop Romero was leading a misa. He spoke to the people, urging them not to lose hope. Minutes later, he himself was shot and killed right during the misa. But he once said, I do not believe in death without resurrection. If they kill me, I will be resurrected in the Salvadoran people. His example helps us remember that we are not given the gift of life to serve ourselves, but to serve others! Hmmm...its now the third Sunday of Lent. What can be done now to become a better person? STAND UP FOR THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS, just as Monseñor Romero did! Did you know that the budget proposed by the Governor of Illinois cuts out funding for tons of social programs, AGAIN, including a grant that supports most of our Casa Romero programs, AGAIN? Wow a place named after Archbishop Romero is in danger can you imagine that? Can you imagine our neighborhood without Casa Romero? TAKE SOME TIME THIS WEEK to write a letter to Governor Rauner telling him what you think of his choice to cut programs that help children and youth. You can drop the letter off at the parish office, for Sister Angie to include in a packet we are sending the Governor. And pray to Monseñor Romero to watch over our neighborhood... Are you out of school and between the ages of 17 and 21? Do you have your 8th grade diploma? CONSIDER our neighborhood Peace and Education High School SINCLAIR. Applications are now being accepted for Quarter 4 of the school year. Call the Sinclair Campus at (773) TOMORROW to be invited to an orientation session. Quarter 4 begins in mid-april. Something to think about when you are tempted to quit school... On average, an individual with a Bachelor s degree earns 35% more per year than a person with some college and 60% more than someone with just a high school diploma. -National Center for Educational Statistics, quoted on Encarta. So what s the message? STAY IN SCHOOL! If you are having problems with your classes, with other students, with finances seek help from adults you can trust like David Rios, see the announcement below!
