TEMA 2: 2.1 Los adjetivos posesivos: Singular My Your His Her Its Plural Our Your Their Los adjetivos posesivos son los que acompañan a los nombres. Siempre van seguidos de sustantivos. Se debe usar el que corresponda al poseedor, no al nombre que lo sigue. No se les añade s en plural, son adjetivos y no varían de singular a plural, aunque el nombre que los acompañe pueda ser singular o plural. Ejemplos: - Peter and his mother - Pedro y su madre. - Mary and her father - María y sus padres. - Peter and his sisters - Pedro y sus hermanas. - Mary and her friends - María y sus amigos. - The books and their writing - Los libros y su escritura. 2.2 La formación del plural en los nombres: - Para cambiar un nombre de singular a plural hay que añadir s (book/books). - Otros cambios: - Nombres acabados en: -s, -ss, -x, -ch,-sh, -o, se les añade es. Bus/buses (autobús, autobuses), boss/bosses (jefe, jefes), box/boxes (caja, cajas), church/churches (iglesia, iglesias), potato/potatoes (patata, patatas). - Terminados en f, fe, se cambia por ves: knife/knives (cuchillo, cuchillos). Con la excepción de roof/roofs (tejado), y handkerchief/ handkerchiefs (pañuelo). - Los acabados en consonante+y,cambiamos la y por ies: party/parties. Existen otros nombres que no tienen forma singular sino que siempre son plural: politics (política), scissors (tijeras), trousers (pantalones), thanks (gracias). Plurales irregulares: Palabras que non añaden s, -es, sino que cambian su forma en plural: Singular Plural Man hombre Men hombres Woman mujer Women mujeres Person persona People personas/gente Mouse ratón Mice ratones Tooth diente Teeth dientes Foot pie Feet pies Child niño Children niños 2
2. 3 - Preguntar y expresar la edad y el origen: La edad: Para preguntar y expresar la edad se utiliza el verbo to be con el significado de tener. Para preguntar utilizamos a expresión How old+to be+sujeto: - How old are you? - Cuántos años tienes/ tiene usted? - How old is he? - Cuántos años tiene él? - How old are they? - Cuántos años tienen ellos? Respuestas: - I am 25 years old. Tengo 25 años. Nunca podemos omitir el sujeto pero sí las palabras years old: - He is 37 _ Tiene treinta y siete años. El origen: Para preguntar el origen se dice: Where are you from? - De dónde es usted? / De dónde eres tú? Respuesta: - I m from Austria. Soy de Austria. - Heinz is from Vienna. - Heinz es de Viena. - They are from Scotland. - Son de Escocia. - They are Scottish. - Son escoceses. Fíjese que los países y nacionalidades se escriben siempre con mayúscula: - My cousins are Welsh - Mis primos son galeses. 2.4 - El presente simple de los verbos: Forma: Fíjese en que o presente simple se forma con el sujeto + infinitivo del verbo (sin to) : Empleamos para todas las personas la misma forma excepto para la tercera persona del singular, que añade s o es, dependiendo de cómo acabe el infinitivo. Para saber lo que tenemos que añadir enla tercera persona del singular tenemos que tener en cuenta las siguientes reglas: - Los verbos acabados en o, ss, sh, ch, o x añaden -es: He watches TV everyday. - El ve la televisión todos los días. He does his homework in the afternoon. - Hace los deberes por la tarde. Los verbos acabados en consonante + y cambian la y por i antes de añadir -es: Carmen studies Medicine - Carme estudia medicina. Uso: Este tiempo verbal lo utilizamos para describir nuestra rutina diaria, es decir, lo que hacemos de forma habitual, acciones repetidas o costumbres: Every morning I get up at 7.50 - Me levanto todos los días a las 7.50. In Galice many shops close at lunchtime - Muchas tiendas cierran a la hora de comer en Galicia. 3

I don t play the violin. 2.5 - Adverbios de frecuencia: How often...? Con qué frecuencia? Cuántas veces? 100 % = Always. - Siempre. Usually. - Normalmente. Often. - Con frecuencia. Sometimes.- A veces. Hardly ever.- Casi nunca. 0 % = Never. - Nunca. Otras expresiones que indican frecuencia: Every day/week/month/year - Todos los días/semanas/meses/años. Once a week/ month/ year - Una vez a la semana/al mes/al año. Twice a week/ month / year/ - Dos veces a la semana/al mes/al año. Three times - Tres veces Four times - Cuatro veces Estos adverbios expresan la frecuencia con la que se realiza una acción. Se colocan detrás de los verbos To be y Can y delante de los demás verbos: I am never wrong.. Nunca me equivoco. You are always right. - Siempre tienes razón. I usually drink coffee but sometimes I drink tea. - Normalmente bebo café pero a veces bebo té. En oraciones negativas se colocan entre el auxiliar negativo y el verbo principal: I don t usually get up late. No suelo levantarme tarde. 2.6 - Colocación del adjetivo: Los adjetivos en inglés son palabras invariables, es decir, no varían en género ni en número. Tienen la misma forma en masculino, femenino, singular y plural. Se colocan siempre delante del nombre al que se refieren: - Big bathroom. - Baño grande. - Big bathrooms. - Baños grandes. También se colocan después del verbo to be: - The garden is small. El jardín es pequeño. - Roy is lucky - Roy tiene buena suerte. La palabra very (muy) se coloca delante de los adjetivos: - A very old-fashioned kitchen. - Una cocina muy vieja. 2.7 - Preposiciones que indican tiempo: at, in, on, from At : - Horas - Períodos concretos de tiempo (Christmas, Easter, weekend) - Night. 5
On: - Días de la semana. - Fechas. In: - Meses. - Estacioens del año. - Años. - Partes del dia (excepto night). From... until o From... to - Período de tiempo entre dos momentos determinados: I have lunch from two o clock until 2.30. Como desde las dos hasta las dos y media. I work from five to eight. - Trabajo desde las cinco hasta las ocho. 2.8 - Actividades : 1.
