CULTURAL PROGRAM In order to complete the technical events of the Congress will be the possibility for attend to visit the monumental Zaragoza with the Zaragoza card. Zaragoza Card is a smart-chip card offering cardholders free public transport as well as access to the city s rich cultural heritage and other attractions Zaragoza is an interesting and graceful city that stands in the northeastern quarter of Spain and is the capital city of the Aragon area. Zaragoza is the fifthbiggest city in the whole of Spain and Zaragoza's wealth and prosperity is reflected in the city's spacious boulevards, extensive shopping districts, lively bars and fine dining. Centered on the scenic River Ebro, Zaragoza is one of the great monumental towns in Spain. It was founded some 2000 years ago, and Old-Iberians, Romans, Goths and Arabians equally left their heritage. Some of the most sightseeing points in Zaragoza are: - Basilica del Pilar: This church is one of the most visited places of pilgrimage in all Spain it isconsecrated to the "Holy Virgin of Pilar" patroness of this town. This baroque building of 1681 is flanked by four towers. Some parts, as the neoclassical main-facade, were added in later periods. In its interior the wall-paintings in the cupola, works of Goya and Bayeau, are of particular interest. In the churche's museum you can see a large collection mainly of religious arts. - Catedral de la Seo: This gothic cathedral, with lateron added parts in neoclassical, baroque and plateresque styles was built in 14th century, over an older Romanesque temple. In its interior, which consists of five naves with lateral chapels, the main-altar with splendid reliefs and the Mudejar-style apse are remarkable. - Palacio de la Aljafería: This splendid king's palace of 11th century is one of very few remaining Moorish buildings of the dynasty "Taifas". The mosque with its minaret and the Torre del Trovador, a fortificated tower, are left of the original construction. Some other parts with rich Mudejar-style ornaments were added in the Christian epoch. The Throne Hall in particular is remarkable. Close to venue of the Congress it is possible to visit the most important heritage left after 2008 International Exposition. One of the jewels left by the recent Expo Zaragoza has been the largest inland aquarium in Europe and one of the three largest in the world. Finally, do not miss the opportunity to stroll along the idyllic water park a few meters from the Convention Centre. 24
