1 University of Guanajuato Summer Program for Research and Cultural Immersion 2014 Introduction The University of Guanajuato offers its Summer Program for Research and Cultural Immersion 2014, for international students nominated by their home institutions. This program lasts 10 weeks and provides the possibility of credit transfer. UG Summer Program for Research is a twenty-year tradition program; it welcomes students from different Mexican Higher Education Institutions every year. Students participate in different research projects proposed by UG faculty members in a broad range of fields of study. For the first time, in 2014, UG is opening the Summer Research Program to International Students, along with a Spanish and Mexican culture full-immersion program. This Program is partially supported through the 100K strong in the Americas and the University of Guanajuato. Learning outcomes 1. To conduct a short-term research project under the supervision of a faculty member. 2. To develop Spanish language skills. 3. To be aware of Mexican and American cultures. Dates of the program From June 2 to August 8, 2014 Program details Orientation Week ( Mexico and intercultural communication ) Research stay during 5 weeks in any area of knowledge ( Research report and presentation could be done in English) Mentor teacher for the research Publication of research report and presentation in a special university congress Four week of Spanish language courses, beginner, intermediate or advanced levels. Classes available are: reading, speaking, grammar, history or literature (depending on the level of student), dancing and cooking Three service learning activities Three tours in the state of Guanajuato and Mexico City Full immersion through accommodation in host families

Benefits*: For launching of the program, registration and administrative fees will be waived to UG s American partners institutions. Possible support for room and board (depending on existing collaboration agreement between the UG and the USA home institution) Students from partner institutions will receive $ pesos to flight ticket.

4 University of Guanajuato Summer Research Program and Cultural Immersion 2014 Introducción La Universidad de Guanajuato ofrece a estudiantes internacionales, postulados por sus instituciones de origen, el Programa de Verano de Investigación e Inmersión Cultural Este programa tiene una duración de 10 semanas y otorga la posibilidad de transferencia de créditos académicos. Durante el programa se realiza un proyecto de investigación (en idioma inglés o español) mientras se tiene la oportunidad de conocer la cultura mexicana y se mejorar el idioma español. Duración de programa Del 2 de junio al 8 de agosto 2014 Características del programa Semana de inducción (México y la comunicación intercultural) Estancia de investigación de 5 semanas, en prácticamente cualquier área del conocimiento* Asignación de un profesor mentor para el trabajo de investigación Publicación de reporte de investigación y presentación en congreso universitario Cuatro semanas de estudio del idioma español, en nivel principiante, intermedio o avanzado. Las clases disponibles son: lectura, conversación, gramática, historia o literatura (dependiendo el nivel del estudiante), baile y cocina Tres actividades de voluntariado Tres excursiones en el Estado de Guanajuato y la Ciudad de México Hospedaje en familias anfitrionas Transporte desde y hacia el aeropuerto del Bajío *Es posible realizar el trabajo de investigación y escribir el reporte en inglés. El costo de inscripción del programa es de $1,500 USD. Requisitos Encontrarse en su tercer o cuarto año de estudios Estar interesado por realizar un trabajo de investigación y el aprendizaje del español Realizar el registro correspondiente Copia de la página principal del pasaporte

Durante el programa se realiza un proyecto de investigación (en idioma inglés o español) mientras se tiene la oportunidad de conocer la cultura mexicana y se mejorar el idioma español.

5 Constancia de calificaciones que especifique el promedio Carta de exposición de motivos indicando el área de interés Compromiso de adquirir un seguro médico internacional por la duración de la estancia Cubrir el hospedaje y alimentación (Costo total de 900 USD por la duración del programa). Cubrir el vuelo al Aeropuerto del Bajío (BJX).
