Dear History Fair participant and parent, On Thursday, April 5 th and Monday, April 16 th from 2:45-3:30, our history fair team will be conducting a History Fair workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to offer support for your child while they are finishing up their project. At this workshop, students may need help organizing their final project, or may just want others to look at their final project and give feedback before it is turned in. Students coming to this workshop should be well into the project. They should have their idea, conducted most of their research and be close to completing the project. Students may come to the C-SPACE at 2:45pm. The workshop will conclude at 3:30pm. Please plan on picking your child up at that time, or send a note so we know how they will get home. Please let me know if you have any questions. Ayanna Black Thomas Elementary History Fair Chairperson 469.752.3543 Ayanna.black@pisd.edu

Dear Students and Parents, It is time to prepare for the History Fair! We invite all 3 rd, 4 th, & 5 th grade students to participate! Even though participation in this annual event is voluntary, I want to encourage interested students to take advantage of this opportunity to exhibit their knowledge of history. Students who want to participate should request the Student Handbook using the form below. The handbook includes specific information about suggested topics and rules governing the judging of projects. Be aware that all decisions of the History Fair judges are final. *Please note that 4 th and 5 th grade PACE students are required to complete a history project. All History Fair projects will be due on Tuesday, April 17th at 7:45 am. You may bring your project in the week of April 2 nd so that your teacher can check to make sure you are on target for the due date. Please return the form below to your classroom teacher who will get a Student Handbook from the campus fair chairperson and then give it to you. Every student who is completing a project needs a copy of the Student Handbook (even if you are completing the project as a group). Campus History Fair: Wednesday, April 18 th, 2018 The fair is quickly approaching, so send in your form below and get your handbook now. I hope many of you are interested in being a part of Thomas History Fair this year, Conflict & Compromise in History Get excited, and get researching, my little historians! Sincerely, Ayanna Black Your History Fair Chairperson

Attendance Reminders It is vital for students to be in school. Please remember these state guidelines: If your child is going to be absent please call the Child Safe Line (469-752-3500 option #3) to report their absence Notes must be turned in within three (3) days of their return to school and include the student s first and last name, the date(s) they were absent, the reason for their absence and a parent/guardian s signature if written by a parent/guardian. Beyond 10 absences, students must turn in doctor s notes. Chronic absences and tardies will result in an intervention plan Continued absences and tardies can result in truancy being filed. Please work with your school to avoid these difficult situations. Most importantly, be in school!
