Psalm 97:6 WE WELCOME OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF MUSIC We are pleased to announce that we have a new Director of Music on staff, Ms. Sarah Jane Starcher Germani! MESSAGE FROM FR. ANDERSON I am looking to start a Pro-Life Group as well as group promoting vocations for girls and young women. If anyone is interested, please contact me or call the rectory. Also, if anyone has ideas for new groups, please let me know. Thank you. BAPTISM / WEDDING REGISTRATIONS Baptism registrations will be taken in the vestibule after the 12pm Mass or any weekday in the Rectory. Please bring child s birth certificate. We encourage couples who are civilly married and couples thinking of marriage to stop by the rectory and speak with Fr. Anderson. Thank you. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION All public school children should be registered for Religious Education beginning in September. Please bring Baptismal Certificate, birth certificate if not Baptized and $60 registration fee per child, $100 per family. Religious Ed will be held on Saturday s at 2:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 4:00 p.m. All parents must accompany children to Mass. This is mandatory as is a monthly parent Faith Formation workshop to assist in home Catechesis. Registrations will take place, Monday s, Wednesday s & Thursday s from 9am-11am, as well as every Sunday in July and August from 9am -1pm. EYEWITNESSES Today, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, is a day of eyewitness accounts. The first, a vision reported by the prophet Daniel, was well known to Jesus and his apostles. The vision account was written in quite mystical and figurative language. It is a vision of heaven, powerful and memorable. There are flames of fire, burning wheels, the Ancient One, and a Son of Man. Clearly, Daniel saw something. But was it a dream? Was it real? Was it merely a clever myth? Peter wants no such confusion about his vision! We are told in Matthew s Gospel what he and his friends James and John saw when they went up on the mountain with Jesus one day. Jesus warned the three witnesses to tell no one until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead (Matthew 17:9). Lest readers of one of the Gospels discount the story or simply write it off as a pious myth, Peter gives his own account of the Transfiguration of Jesus in his second letter to the church. He writes with authority, as an eyewitness. He reports this message from God concerning Jesus: This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased, and he assures us that the message is altogether reliable (2 Peter 1:17, 19). Copyright J. Psalm The Lord is king, the most high over all the earth (Psalm 97). Second Reading Be attentive to the prophetic message, as to a lamp shining in a dark place (2 Peter 1:16-19). TESTIGOS Hoy, la fiesta de la Transfiguración del Señor, es día de testimonios de testigo ocular. El primero, una visión que el profeta Daniel reporta, era muy conocido por Jesús y sus apóstoles. Es una poderosa y memorable visión del cielo. Tiene llamaradas de fuego, ruedas encendidas, el sabio anciano y el Hijo del Hombre. Es claro que Daniel vio algo. Pero, fue un sueño? Fue algo real? O fue solamente un mito astuto? Pedro no quiere que su visión sea confundida de igual manera! Nos cuenta el Evangelio de san Marcos lo que él y sus amigos Santiago y Juan vieron cuando subieron un día a la montaña con Jesús. Jesús les ordenó a los tres testigos que no dijeran nada hasta que el Hijo del Hombre resucitara de entre los muertos (Marcos 9:9). Por si los lectores del Evangelio dan por descontada la historia o simplemente la descartan como un mito piadoso, Pedro escribe su propia versión de la Transfiguración de Jesús en su segunda carta a la Iglesia. Escribe con autoridad, como testigo ocular.
