1 Ogden School District Acceptable Use Policy For Students Definitions: Internet: A global or private computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. Software: The programs and other operating information used by a computer. Hardware: The machines, wiring, and other physical components of a computer or other electronic system. Device: Physical, electronic hardware used for computing such as a desktop computer, laptop computer, or other computing hardware. Mobile Device: A portable computing device such as a smartphone or tablet computer. Social Media: Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTABLE USE Ogden School District (OSD), in pursuit of meeting student s educational needs, has access to the network, Internet resources, software, and devices. This educational opportunity has been made available to students and teachers in the Ogden School District. The OSD believes that the valuable information and interactions, available through computer network communication, are effective ways to educate students and promote digital citizenship. With access to the network, Internet resources, software, and devices comes the availability of materials that may not be considered to be of educational value. The Ogden School District and the Utah Education and Telehealth Network have taken precautions, including filtering, monitoring, and logging, to restrict access to objectionable materials. It is however, impossible to control all materials and users may come across controversial or inappropriate information. We believe that the educational opportunities far outweigh the possibility that users may obtain objectionable material. To maximize the educational experience when using the Internet or local area network, the following specific uniform practices and guidelines will be enforced. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Digital Citizenship - When using the Ogden School District s network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices, you are expected to abide by the following rules of digital citizenship. These include (but are not limited to) the following: 1. Respect for Privacy You will not post, repost, or share private information pertaining to individuals or entities. 2. Online Behavior You will not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, inflammatory, racist, threatening, or disrespectful language. You will not harass another person. You will not make personal attacks including but not limited to prejudicial, discriminatory, or defamatory statements. 3. Social Media

2 You will not access social media accounts using the network, Internet resources, accounts, or devices unless formally approved by a teacher or administrator employed by the Ogden School District. 4. Safety You will inform the teacher immediately if you have received any inappropriate messages. You may not use the network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices to set up non-educational appointments. You may not post, repost, or share personal information about yourself or other people i.e. addresses, phone numbers, school, etc. 5. Inappropriate Access to Material You will not use the network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices to access material that is profane or obscene. You will not use the network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices to access material that is directed toward discrimination, hate literature, or acts of violence. You will immediately notify a teacher or administrator employed by the Ogden School District if you mistakenly access inappropriate information. You may not download or upload software to a device without specific permission from a teacher or administrator employed by the Ogden School District. 6. Illegal Activities You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to any network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices. You will not use any network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices to engage in illegal activities. You will not create or share malicious software. 7. Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement You will not plagiarize information found on the Internet. You will not reproduce work that is protected by copyright. If you are unsure of copyright, guidelines or what constitutes plagiarism ask your teacher for further understanding. 8. Vandalism Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to physically or digitally harm or destroy data and/or equipment of another user or the Ogden School District. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creation of malicious software, defacing digital assets, or damaging hardware. Security - Security on any Ogden School District account(s) and/or device(s) is a high priority. The Ogden School District and the Utah Education and Telehealth Network have taken precautions, including filtering, monitoring, and logging, to restrict access to objectionable materials. In this interest, You cannot allow others to use your passwords, accounts, or devices. You are responsible for your individual accounts and/or devices. You will immediately notify a teacher or administrator employed by the Ogden School District if you have reason to believe that there is a security problem. Purchases - The following statements refer to a student s use of the network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices regarding purchases. You may not make purchases using the network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices without expressed written permission from your parent/guardian and school officials. The district/school will not be held responsible for purchases made by a student.

3 Use of Resources - Although the information and interactions available on the network, Internet resources, accounts, or devices are valuable the use of these resources is not unlimited. You will use the network, Internet resources, accounts, and/or devices only for educational and career development. You will not subscribe to discussion groups, mailing lists, or chat groups that have not been formally approved by a teacher or administrator employed by the Ogden School District. Upon notification of denied access to the network, Internet resources, software, and devices, students and/or parents found accessing or attempting to access Ogden School District s digital resources will be subject to appropriate disciplinary or legal action. RIGHTS AS A USER Search and Seizure There is no privacy pertaining to the contents of your files on the network, Internet resources, accounts, or devices. Routine monitoring and maintenance of the network, Internet resources, software, and devices may lead to the discovery that you have violated the Acceptable Use Policy for Students. A search of individual accounts, devices, or media, etc. will be conducted if there is reasonable suspicion that the Acceptable Use Policy for Students has been violated. Parents/guardians have a right to request to see the contents of their student s accounts or devices at any time. Due Process The district will cooperate fully with local, state, or federal officials in any investigation related to illegal activities conducted on the network, Internet resources, software, or devices. You have the right to be heard by a neutral administrator if there is a claim that you have violated this policy. DISTRICT RIGHTS The Ogden School District reserves the right to restrict access to any student that is suspected to be in violation of the Acceptable Use Policy for Students until that violation can be resolved. The Ogden School District will not be held responsible for unauthorized use of the network, Internet resources, software, or devices to purchase products or services. The Ogden School District has the right to maintain a history of a student s Acceptable Use Policy for Students violations.

Seguridad Informará al maestro inmediatamente si ha recibido mensajes inapropiados. No puede utilizar la red, los recursos de Internet, las cuentas y/o los dispositivos para configurar citas no educativas. No puede publicar, reenviar, ni compartir información personal sobre usted o sobre otras personas, es decir, direcciones, números de teléfono, escuela, etc. 5. Acceso inapropiado al material No utilizará la red, los recursos de Internet, las cuentas y/o dispositivos para acceder a material que sea profano u obsceno. No utilizará la red, los recursos de Internet, las cuentas y/o los dispositivos para acceder a material referente a la discriminación, odio o actos de violencia. Inmediatamente notificará a un maestro o administrador, empleado por el Distrito Escolar de Ogden, si tiene acceso erróneo a información inapropiada. No puede descargar o cargar software a un dispositivo sin el permiso específico de un maestro o administrador, empleado por el Distrito Escolar de Ogden. 6. Actividades ilegales No intentará obtener acceso no autorizado a ninguna red, recursos de Internet, cuentas y/o dispositivos. No utilizará ninguna red, recursos de Internet, cuentas y/o dispositivos para participar en actividades ilegales. No creará ni compartirá software malicioso. 7. Plagio y violación de derechos de autor No plagiará la información que se encuentra en Internet. No reproducirá el trabajo que está protegido por derechos de autor. Si no está seguro de las pautas de derechos de autor o de lo que constituye el plagio, solicite más información con su maestro. 8. Vandalismo El vandalismo se define como cualquier intento malicioso de dañar o destruir física o digitalmente datos y/o equipos de otro usuario o del Distrito Escolar de Ogden. Esto incluye, entre otros, la carga o la creación de software malicioso, la desconfiguración de los activos digitales o daños al hardware. Seguridad - La seguridad en cualquier cuenta(s) y/o dispositivo (s) del Distrito Escolar de Ogden es de alta prioridad. El Distrito Escolar de Ogden y la Red de Educación y Telesalud de Utah han tomado precauciones, que incluyen el filtrado, monitoreo y registro, para restringir el acceso a materiales obscenos. Debido a esto, No puede permitir que otros usen sus contraseñas, cuentas o dispositivos. Usted es responsable de sus cuentas y/o dispositivos individuales. Notificará de inmediato a un maestro o administrador, empleado por el Distrito Escolar de Ogden, si tiene motivos para creer que existe un problema de seguridad. Compras - Las siguientes afirmaciones se refieren al uso que el alumno hace de la red, los recursos de Internet, las cuentas y/o los dispositivos con respecto a las compras. No puede hacer compras usando la red, recursos de Internet, cuentas y/o dispositivos sin el permiso expreso por escrito de sus padres/tutores y personal de la escuela. El distrito/la escuela no se hará responsable de las compras hechas por un estudiante.

7 Uso de los recursos - Aunque la información y las interacciones disponibles en la red, los recursos de Internet, las cuentas o los dispositivos son valiosos, el uso de estos recursos no es ilimitado. Utilizará la red, los recursos de Internet, las cuentas y/o los dispositivos solo para el desarrollo educativo y profesional. No se inscribirá a grupos de discusión, listas de correo o grupos de chat que no hayan sido formalmente aprobados por un maestro o administrador, empleado por el Distrito Escolar de Ogden. Tras la notificación de denegación de acceso a la red, los recursos de Internet, el software y los dispositivos, los estudiantes y/o padres que accedan o intenten acceder a los recursos digitales del Distrito Escolar de Ogden estarán sujetos a medidas disciplinarias o legales apropiadas. DERECHOS COMO USUARIO Búsqueda y captura No hay privacidad relacionada con el contenido de sus archivos en la red, recursos de Internet, cuentas o dispositivos. La supervisión y el mantenimiento de rutina de la red, los recursos de Internet, el software y los dispositivos pueden llevar al descubrimiento de que ha violado la Política de uso aceptable para estudiantes. Se realizará una búsqueda de cuentas individuales, dispositivos o medios, etc. si existe una sospecha razonable de que se ha violado la Política de Uso Aceptable para Estudiantes. Los padres/tutores tienen el derecho de solicitar ver los contenidos de las cuentas o dispositivos de sus estudiantes en cualquier momento. Audiencia de debido proceso El distrito cooperará completamente con los funcionarios locales, estatales o federales en cualquier investigación relacionada con actividades ilegales realizadas en la red, recursos de Internet, software o dispositivos. Tiene derecho a ser escuchado por un administrador neutral si hay un reclamo de que ha violado esta política.
