3 What s available at the middle school? Extra help - offered Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-3:30. A late bus is also available. Scheduled Meetings teachers meet in a group with individual students, parents, and school counselors. Support Services Weekly progress monitoring, group counseling sessions, quarterly follow-up, and individual meetings. After School Activities Students choose from an array of after school clubs and activities, including interscholastic sports.

5 Role of the School counselor Assist Students: Develop an educational plan that s realistic and appropriate to obtaining goals. Recognize and utilize academic strengths so that they can make effective decisions. Analyze the interrelationships of interests and abilities. Improve responsibility. 7 NYS Middle school units of study (Grades 7 & 8) English Language Arts - two units of study Social Studies - two units of study Science - two units of study Mathematics - two units of study Technology Education - one unit of study Family and Consumer Science - three quarters of a unit of study Physical Education Health - one half unit of study The Arts - one half unit in visual arts and one half unit in music Library and Information Skills - one period per week Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Career Development and Occupational Studies
8 Accelerated Courses At J.T. Finley Middle School, we offer accelerated courses in the following areas: Mathematics (Algebra) Science (Earth Science) World Language (French I, Italian I, Latin I, Spanish I) Art (Studio Art)
9 Scheduling process for grade 6 December A letter will be sent from the middle school principal, Mr. Amato to the 6 th grade parents, requesting the selection of language. February Course placements for grade 7 will be entered into our data management program so that staffing decisions can begin. June/July - Final determination will be made regarding course placements.
10 Planning for the future. (college and career readiness) Students registered in accelerated courses earn credits towards their high school diploma. Courses are also listed on the high school transcript. Dual Language Students continue in their language throughout high school. Course credit from grade 6 (following the Checkpoint B exam) will appear on student transcripts. Career Exploration programs are provided in grade 7 through our Naviance platform.

20 Proceso de programación para el grado 6 Diciembre - Se enviará una carta del director de la escuela intermedia, Sr. Amato a los padres de 6º grado, solicitando la selección del idioma. Febrero: las asignaciones de cursos para el grado 7 se ingresarán en nuestro programa de administración de datos para que las decisiones puedan comenzar. Junio / julio: se tomará la decisión final con respecto a la ubicación del curso.
21 Planificación para el futuro (preparación universitaria y profesional) Los estudiantes matriculados en cursos acelerados ganan créditos para su diploma de la escuela secundaria. Los cursos también incluyen en la transcripción de la escuela secundaria. Los estudiantes de lenguaje dual continúan en su idioma a lo largo de la escuela secundaria. El crédito del curso del grado 6 (después del examen de Checkpoint B) aparecerá en las transcripciones de un estudiante.
