2 Page 2 The Church of Holy Apostles, McHenry, IL A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family, Thanks for all your feedback and support from last week s column. I wanted you to see things as honestly and hope-filled as I do for the best of this parish for many years to come. Last week was a very special mission trip for all who went. We got to see a different part of the country and a different way of life. It has led us to look at how we can develop our service curriculum if you will, so we can offer more opportunities for service. This is where we come to a deeper level of experience of our faith. You may or may not have noticed that the office entrance to the church building is closed. There was an accident when we came home from the mission trip, when I tried to pull the truck under shelter to get out of the rain, but I was about 4 inches off on clearance. I am sorry for this inconvenience. The insurance has met with us and we will get it fixed as soon as possible. I made it 1,295 miles without incident. It was the last 5 feet that killed me. This week I will be gone for a three day conference on addictions and helping our priests who struggle with them. I am on the priest health committee and have attended this conference annually for the past 10 plus years. It helps me gain insight to help guys who need it. Fr. Diego is doing well in St. Charles. He stopped by last week to get the rest of his things from his room. Have a Blessed Week! 4 Page 4 Donate to School Supply Drive Seems like summer just began, but students will soon be preparing to go back to school in mid-august. To help out needy families in our community, we will be hosting a School Supply Drive. Items that are always needed are pencils, pens, notebook paper, notebooks, scissors, glue, rulers, backpacks, markers, crayons, folders, Kleenex, and more. Many of these items are currently on sale at all the area stores. Please, if you are able, pick up a few items and drop them off in the collection box in the narthex by August 16. Thank you! SVdPS Reaches Out to Homebound Home-bound after a recent surgery, an older single gentleman called the St Vincent de Paul Society for assistance. Unable to drive and without friends or family in the area, this man had no way to means to get food or to get to church. Vincentians delivered food to his door and signed him up for Compassionate Ministry so that the Holy Eucharist could be brought to his home. This man was grateful for the care and compassion showed to him by our faith community. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12 Men Consider Emmaus This Fall Men, is it time to take a break from the rush and busyness that wears you down and steals your peace? Help Build Our Path, Brick by Brick Remember a deceased loved one or a special occasion such as a birthday or graduation with the perfect gift of an engraved brick in our Prayer Path around the All Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Pick up an order form at the Information Center in the narthex and write the message you would like engraved on the brick. Godwin There are still a few seats left for the Best of Ireland & Northern Ireland Tour with Fr. Godwin Asuquo, Pastor of St. Patrick s Church in McHenry. Muchos hoy en día pueden ser víctimas del temor, la ansiedad, y la preocupación porque no proveen para sí mismos el alimento espiritual necesario. La mayoría de la gente no se olvida de alimentar su cuerpo pero se olvida de alimentar su alma. Prestando muy poca atención a su nutrición espiritual, van desgastándose poco a poco y no tienen fuerzas para controlar ni influenciar su mente, la cual causa estragos en su vida. Haga tiempo para leer la Palabra de Dios y orar. La Palabra de Dios nos nutre porque oímos la voz de Dios hablándonos desde sus páginas. La oración es efectiva y poderosa, capaz de eliminar la ansiedad, temor y preocupaciones de la mente de cualquiera que la practique. Pero hay que tener fe en que Dios oye nuestras oraciones porque creemos en El, y sabemos que nos ama, nos escucha, y quiere ayudarnos. Santiago 1:5 Y si alguno de ustedes tiene falta de sabiduría, pídala a Dios, el cual da a todos abundantemente y sin reproche, y le será dada. Pero pida con fe, no dudando nada, porque el que duda es semejante a la ola del mar, que es arrastrada por el viento y echada de una parte a otra. Cuando tenemos ansiedad, temor, o preocupación, un versículo bíblico maravilloso es el siguiente: Isaías 26:3 Tú guardarás en completa paz a aquel cuyo pensamiento en ti persevera; porque en ti ha confiado. Juan 14:27 La paz os dejo, mi paz os doy. Yo no os la doy como el mundo la da. No se turbe vuestro corazón, ni tenga miedo. Lean y mediten en estas palabras. Son palabras de vida y paz. La fe y la oración son algo poderosísimo. No hay droga, calmante, ni sedante que se pueda comparar con la fe en Dios Todopoderoso y la oración. Una joven mujer, estuvo en depresión muchos años. Aunque estaba bajo cuidados médicos y en tratamiento psiquiátrico con varios fármacos fuertes, no fue hasta que empezó a leer la Biblia y a orar diariamente que empezó a salir del profundo estado depresivo en que estaba. Fiesta de Verano Reserve la fecha del domingo 26 de julio, Esperamos la participación de toda la comunidad, tendremos la fiesta de verano, comenzando a las 8am. Con venta de desayuno en el Fr. Sherry Center y cambiando el menú al terminar la misa de 12pm. Con venta de comida en el estacionamiento de la Iglesia. (si el tiempo lo permite) habrá juegos para los niños, todo lo que se recaude será para los gastos de la parroquia de los Santos Apóstoles. Puede traer sus sillas. Formación de las Familia en la Fe Las formas de inscripción para las clases de catecismo ya las puede encontrar en la oficina de la iglesia o en el centro de información. Este año también habrá clases en domingo de 9:30 a 11:30am. Este programa de catecismo es para que vengan en familia. Las clases serán ofrecidas el segundo y cuarto domingo del mes. Y las clases de los martes seguirán con el horario de 5 a 6:15 pm. Usted puede escoger una de las opciones Para mas información llamar a la oficina. Limpieza de la Iglesia Agradecemos a las personas que ayudan con la limpieza de la Iglesia. Próxima fecha miércoles 22 de julio a las 6 pm. Si quiere ser adorador llame la oficina o llene una de las formas que se encuentran en la capilla de Adoración la puede traerla a la oficina. Horario disponibles: Viernes : 2 3 pm. Sábado: 4 5 pm. Domingo 2 3 am. Veladoras en la Capilla de Adoración Si desea ofrecer una de las veladoras que se encienden en la Capilla de Adoración al Santísimo por sus intenciones o sus necesidades, pase a la oficina de la Iglesia. La veladora dura 14 días encendida. El costo por veladora, $15 dólares. Este mes son encendidas del 19 de julio al 1 de agosto a petición de la Familia Tapia, Viridiana Lopez y Janice Stromberg. Padrinos para Bautismo Las personas que participaran como padrinos de Bautismo o deseen ser padrinos, es requisito estar casados por la Iglesia. Pasar a la oficina para presentar el del Acta del Sacramento Matrimonial. Presentaciones Las fechas de presentaciones son el primer y cuarto domingo de cada mes. Próxima fecha 26 de julio. En el mes de agosto 2 y 23; y en septiembre 6 y 27. Para mas información puede llamar a la oficina RICA (Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para los Adultos) Eres mayor de 18 años y te hace falta alguno de los sacramentos, como Bautismo, Primera Comunión o Confirmación. 7 Page 7 Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 19, 2015 Sharing Mission Trip Experiences Last week, 76 members of our parish as well as St. Patrick s and St. Mary s parish, got in our cars and drove to Betsy Layne, Kentucky on a mission trip through Catholic Heart Work Camp. This was my first mission trip and I wasn t really sure what to expect. I knew I was going to be out of my comfort zone. I didn t really know any of the other adults or youth very well and wasn t really sure about sleeping in the same room as all these people I didn t know. I was especially nervous about the showering situation. It has been a long time since I have showered in a locker room. My son Tyler had gone on the mission trip the previous two years and I had heard about his experiences. I was excited to be able to experience these same things...with my son. I thought this trip was going to be about helping out the less fortunate with home repairs, painting, yard clean-up, etc. Those things were done but there is so much more to a mission trip. The theme this year was Amplify. We were challenged to really think about what it means to amplify our faith in God. After we completed our service work for the day, we would go back to camp, clean up, eat some dinner and attend a two hour program. The first hour had more of a fun vibe and included a teen skit, an adult skit and lots of songs. The second hour focused on prayer and amplifying your faith. Because of this experience I was able to share a very special moment of sincere hugging, love and appreciation with my son, feelings that are not always easy for a teenaged young man to express to his mother. When he walked up to me without saying anything and gave me the biggest hug I have ever received from him, I just melted in his arms. That is a moment that I will cherish forever. People often talk about how the youth of today are focused on the wrong things in life and that as a society we worry about them. Let me tell you...if you have ever thought or said this, I challenge you to go on a mission trip. It was so refreshing to be able to witness all the youth of our parishes at their best. I saw first-hand how caring, thoughtful, loving and respectful our youth are. Some of them encountered some pretty difficult situations, but they came through for their resident and became a beacon of light for them. Seeing how these things affected our teens (and adults) was amazing. I walked away Saturday night with many more friends, daughters and sons. I cannot wait to sign up for the next one. I believe that everyone should experience a mission trip at least once in their life, if not more. It truly is life-changing and I am so grateful to all those who made it possible for me to be able to have this experience. God bless! Lisa Taylor Thank You From Fr. Raju Dear Fr.
