Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact Father Ken in the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) may contact the office for more info. Offering special prayers for the dead is a beautiful way to love and honor those who have passed through life before us. For anyone who has lost a family member or close friend and would like to remember them, you are invited to present a flower in their name. The merciless judge represents the corruption that has short-circuited justice throughout history; the distraught widow, society s perennially powerless, marginalized to what Pope Francis calls the peripheries by those who wield power but lack the mercy that could transfigure society with compassion. To confront such reality, Jesus bids us, pray always without becoming weary (Luke 18:1). Prayer opens our eyes to see others from Jesus perspective, and leads us to work for justice by coming to the aid of others with what Pope Francis extols as a higher standard, mercy. Thus, when Jesus asks, Will not God secure the rights of [God s] chosen ones? Will [God] be slow to answer? (18:7). We respond by making God s liberating work for others our own. [W] hen the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? (18:8). Yes, we respond and mercy! 6 Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 16, 2016 Page 6 Children s Liturgy of the Word BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD... VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We need 5 adult volunteers to offer Children s Liturgy of the Word during the 11:00 a.m. Mass. If you are 18 years or older, have received sacraments through Confirmation and are committed to serving once a month please consider joining this joy-filled ministry. Jr. High and High School students we need you too to serve as teacher s aids. This is an excellent way to earn service hours as well as be a role model to the younger kids. As a Children s Liturgy of the Word catechist you will work closely with our Director of Religious Education, Gina Stewart in both being prepared and serving. Every session s topic is established and class materials are provided. Children who participate in this liturgy begin with their family in church, at Mass. They, along with their catechist are dismissed to a meeting room before the first reading and return to Mass following the homily. 9 Vigésimo Noveno Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 16 de octubre de 2016 Page 9 Lecturas y Noticias TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Muy popular entre los latinos es la monjita francesa santa Teresita, con sus rosas y crucifijo en mano. No cabe duda que ella fue una gran mujer, pero no podemos olvidar otra monja carmelita, la Teresota, o sea santa Teresa de Jesús (de Ávila). En 1970, esta hispana fue la primera mujer nombrada Doctora de la Iglesia gracias a sus profundos escritos. Teresa vivió en el siglo XVI, una época de mucha reforma. Después de haber pasado varios años como religiosa, se dio cuenta que su vida personal necesitaba conversión. Así fue que se puso a orar y practicar el recogimiento del alma. Ella confiesa que pasarían casi 15 años antes de que estas prácticas dieran fruto. Ella no se dejó vencer durante esos quince años y siguió insistiendo en la oración hasta que Dios le concedió visiones y visitas celestiales. Su mística llena de gozos celestiales nunca la separó de la tierra. Ella no se escondía en la oración, mas bien salía de la oración para luchar en el mundo. Ella inspiró la reforma carmelitana y sigue inspirándonos hoy con sus escritos. Quinceañeras Vamos a empezar a tener Quinceañeras de nuevo en nuestra parroquia, pero sólo durante la misa de 1:30 los domingos. Sólo sería la bendición durante la misa con los padres y padrinos. DEPENDIENDO DE DIOS Llegar con la ayudita de nuestros amigos no es una idea que comenzara con los Beatles. Ciertamente la idea de Llegar con la ayudita de Dios se remonta por lo menos a la época de la primera lectura de hoy, tomada del Éxodo. Cómo obtenemos esa ayuda, sin embargo, es la clave de las lecturas de este fin de semana. Sin importar lo incapaz que se sentía para las tareas que Dios le había encomendado, Moisés perseveró aunque con ayuda de las personas que lo rodeaban. Los israelitas dependieron especialmente de Dios para su libertad. La mujer del Evangelio, desesperada y desvalida, no tenía de quién depender, pero aun así no se rindió. No tenía con qué sobornar al inescrupuloso juez, pero lo molestó hasta el cansancio, por lo que finalmente éste cedió a sus demandas. A veces necesitamos acudir a otros para que nos ayuden en momentos difíciles; pero si siempre acudimos a Dios, no quedaremos defraudados; el Salmo asegura que nuestra ayuda proviene del Señor.
