Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) may contact the office for more info. 3 Fifth Sunday of Easter April 24, 2016 Page 3 At Our Parish THE EASTER VIGIL The third step of Christian initiation is the celebration of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil, which was celebrated on Saturday, March 26. It was a joyful and spiritual time culminating in the receiving of the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist. Following the Vigil, there was a celebration in the Administration building, which was attended by the Neophytes, Candidates and family and friends. The rooms were decorated with balloons, ribbons, tasty food and a beautiful cake. Much joy and fellowship was experienced by all who attended. We wish to thank those who prepared the celebration and served those who attended. What a special culmination for the spiritual event of the Easter Vigil. Please continue to hold our Neophytes and Candidates in prayer as they move into the final period in the RCIA Process called Mystagogy. Donna Beam RCIA Director

6 Fifth Sunday of Easter April 24, 2016 Page 6 Community Outreach GET ON THE BUS For over 15 years, hundreds of children from Orange County and elsewhere in California are reunited with their incarcerated mothers at various state detention facilities as part of a unique and successful ministry called Get On the Bus. Children and their caregivers board buses throughout California and travel to various facilities for a visit with their mother. The Center for Restorative Justice Works, a nonprofit organization, operates the programs. Transportation for the children and caregivers, travel and comfort bags for the long bus rides, a family photograph for each mother and child, and meals are provided for the day. On the return trip, children are offered post-event counseling and receive teddy bears with personalized letters from their mothers. Please consider supporting this important ministry by donating a new or gently used teddy bear (8-12 inches). 7 Fifth Sunday of Easter April 24, 2016 Page 7 RCIA MYSTAGOGY-THE FINAL PERIOD IN RCIA The last period in the RCIA Process is called Mystagogy. It is the period of postbaptismal catechesis which follows the Easter Vigil. This is a time for those that have received the sacraments at the Vigil to live into the mystery of the sacraments. It is also a time for the community and the neophytes and candidates to grow in deepening their grasp of the paschal mystery that is the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. In the RCIA text, it encourages the community of the faithful, which is us, and the godparents, the sponsors and the parish priests to assist our new members with thoughtful and friendly help, as they begin their walk in newness of life. Please continue to pray for our new members, and when you see them at mass extend that hand of helpful encouragement, welcoming them into the family of God. 9 Quinto Domingo de Pascua 24 de abril de 2016 Page 9 Lecturas y Noticias VERDADERA COMUNIDAD CRISTIANA Te puedes imaginar un mundo tal como nos lo presenta las lecturas bíblicas de hoy? Comunidades de fieles por todas partes que se apoyan y se animan unas a otras y se identifican como cristianos por el amor que se tienen unos a otros. Sería un mundo sin lágrimas, sin muerte ni luto, sin gritos de dolor. Ahora todo lo hago nuevo, oímos decir al Hijo de Dios en la segunda lectura del libro del Apocalipsis (21:5). Este mundo de la visión de Juan, es sólo un mundo imaginario? Y esos fieles seguidores de Jesús por los cuales él reza, son un mero sueño del salvador? Hoy se presentan ante nosotros como una meta valiosa. Cómo podemos acercarnos cada vez más a esta visión de una verdadera comunidad cristiana en nuestra vida de hoy? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Año Jubilar de la Misericordia 24 de abril de 2016 Quinto Domingo de Pascua Día Jubilar de la Juventud Este domingo Jubilar de la Juventud es una muestra de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud el mes de julio en la ciudad de Cracovia. El tema de la Jornada es Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, haciendo eco a la advertencia del Papa Francisco de que la practica de la misericordia está disminuyendo ampliamente en la cultura. Como testigo contracultural, por lo tanto, el tiempo ya llegó dice el Papa Francisco, para que la Iglesia aumente la invitación alegre a la misericordia una vez más, regresar a los orígenes, cargar las debilidades y dificultades de nuestros hermanos y hermanos. Jesús afirma lo mismo en el Evangelio de hoy. Así como yo los he amado, así también ámense los unos a los otros (Juan 13:34). El Papa Francisco concluye la misma credibilidad de la Iglesia es vista en cómo muestra misericordia y amor compasivo. Jesús acierta al decir en esto conocerán todos que son mis discípulos, si aman los unos a los otros (Juan 13:35). Por lo que la misericordia hace joven a la Iglesia, al mundo y a cada persona. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE El primero de mayo es reconocido como el día mundial del trabajo y conmemora seis mártires de Chicago, quienes fueron fusilados en 1886 cuando la policía trató de impedir una pelea campal durante una huelga de obreros. Curiosamente esta fecha no es reconocida por Estados Unidos pero sí por muchos países latinoaméricanos. En 1954, el Papa Pió XII apoyó los derechos del obrero incluyendo a san José Obrero en el calendario cristiano. Esta fiesta celebra y recuerda la doctrina social de la Iglesia católica, una doctrina que insiste que: El mensaje cristiano no aparta a las personas de la edificación del mundo, ni les lleva a despreocuparse del bien de sus semejantes, sino que les impone esta colaboración como un deber (Gaudiam et Spes 34). Es justo conmemorar a san José como obrero en el día mundial del trabajo, porque este santo varón nos recuerda que al trabajar uno colabora con Dios en la creación continua del mundo y de la humanidad.
