Así reza la portada de esta recopilación de pequeños relatos que hemos querido incorporar a las etiquetas de nuestras botellas de vino joven Torrelongares y que recogemos en la presente edición. Forty microstories, ten young writers, a unique wine. So reads the cover of this compilation of short stories that we have wanted to incorporate to the labels of our bottles of young wine Torrelongares and that we have collected in the present edition. Vino y literatura unidos bajo el símbolo de la copa-pluma que se vacía lentamente a medida que pasan las páginas y se van leyendo a pequeños sorbos. Wine and literature are joined together under the symbol of the cup-pen, which empties slowly as you slowly turn the pages and read in "small sips". Pequeñas dosis de talento que lo dicen todo en un poco, que sintetizan y concentran en pocas palabras el principio y el fin de una historia, que nos invitan a seguir leyendo, a repetir También se expresa así el vino. El nuestro cuenta la historia de los viticultores de Longares que, generación tras generación, han recogido el legado de sus antepasados, superándose a sí mismos, cosecha tras cosecha, para escribir y actualizar su propio relato. Small dosis of talent that say a lot with little, which synthesize and concentrate in a few words the beginning and the end of a story, that invite you to keep read, to repeat... Wine expresses itself so too. Ours tells the story of the winegrowers in Longares, who, generation after generation, have recolleted the legacy of their ancestors, outdoing themselves, harvest after harvest, to write and update their own story. Esperamos que nuestras botellas tengan a partir de ahora un valor añadido y que, además de contener un gran vino, sirvan de páginas de vidrio y contenedores culturales que, con su lectura, nos hagan esbozar una sonrisa, invitar a un momento de reflexión, remover algún sentimiento escondido... We hope that our bottles will now have added value and that, besides containing a great wine, they will also serve as glass leaves and cultural containers that, with their reading, will make us smile, invite to a moment of reflection, stir some hidden feeling... Aunque deberíamos haberlo previsto, no llevábamos sacacorchos en la maleta y ahora tengo abridores de todos nuestros viajes. Están en el cajón de la cocina, como un resumen de nuestra vida juntos. When travelling, we always ended up buying a bottle of wine to drink in our hotel. Although we should have known better, we didn't have a corkscrew in the suitcase and now I have corkscrews from all of our trips. They are in the kitchen drawer, as a summary of our life together. Cuando salía con mi mejor amigo, Laura siempre elegía el vino que íbamos a tomar. Después rompieron y dejé de verla. Ahora mi amigo vive en otra ciudad. No lo veo nunca y ya no lo echo de menos. Pero, cuando tengo que elegir el vino, siempre me acuerdo de Laura. When she was dating my best friend, Laura always chose the wine we were going to drink. Then they broke up and I stopped seeing her. Now my friend lives in another city. I never see him and I no longer miss him. But when I have to choose the wine, I always remember Laura.

Señalamos la dirección en un mapa y compramos dos botellas de vino. Se hizo de noche y todas las casas nos parecían iguales. No había nadie a quien preguntar. Intentamos orientarnos cerca de una fábrica abandonada. Al final abrimos las botellas y decidimos que ninguna fiesta era mejor que la nuestra. The party was in a country house, across the river. We marked the address on a map and bought two bottles of wine. Night came and all the houses looked alike. There was nobody to ask. We tried to find our bearings near an abandoned factory. Eventually we opened the bottles and decided that no party was better than ours. Lo que más te gustaba era brindar. Chocábamos las copas ruidosamente, muchas veces, y brindábamos por nosotros, por los que estaban con nosotros y por los que estaban lejos. Me acuerdo sobre todo de tu brindis favorito: Que cuando estemos peor estemos como ahora. What you liked most was making toasts. We clinked our glasses noisily, many times, and toasted ourselves, to those who were with us and to those afar. I remember, above all, your favourite toast: "May we be as we are now even in the worst of times".

10 ZARAGOZA, 1978 OCTAVIO GÓMEZ MILIÁN Es ingeniero químico y profesor. Colabora regularmente en diversos programas de radio y prensa, y tiene un proyecto de rock recitado llamado Experimentos in da notte. Ha publicado, entre otros, los libros de poemas Nada mejor para esta noche (Olifante, 2008), Lugares comunes (Premio de poesía Isabel de Portugal 2010) y Perico Fernández que estás en los cielos (Libros del(a) Imperdible, 2011) junto a Juan Luis Saldaña. Dentro de la editorial Comuniter coordina varias colecciones dedicadas a poesía y narrativa. He is a chemical engineer and a teacher. He regularly contributes to various radio programs and a newspaper, and has a recited rock project called Experimentos in da notte. He has published among others, the books of poems Nada mejor para esta noche (Olifante, 2008), Lugares comunes (Premio de poesía Isabel de Portugal 2010) y Perico Fernández que estás en los cielos (Libros del(a) Imperdible, 2011), along with Juan Luis Saldaña. Trabajaba por las mañanas en el Ministerio de Defensa, volvía a su casa de la calle Colón, descansaba unos minutos después de comer y volvía a marcharse para recorrer hasta tarde los comercios de todos los barrios de la ciudad. Los domingos por la tarde dormía la siesta, no se levantaba hasta el final del partido de fútbol. Hay días en los que llego a mi apartamento agotado y no tengo fuerzas ni para besar a Ana. Entonces pienso en mi abuelo y pienso cómo era una auténtica vida a plazos. In Instalments My father always stated that it was my grandfather who brought to Zaragoza the concept of paying in instalments. In the mornings he worked at the Ministry of Defence, he returned to his home at the street Columbus, rested a few minutes after lunch and left again until late to visit the shops of all neighbourhoods of the city. On Sunday afternoons he had a nap, he did not rise until the end of the football match. There are days when I get to my apartment and I am so exhausted I don t have the strength to kiss Ana. Then I think of my grandfather and I think what it was like to have a real life in instalments. El amor después del amor Durante muchos años fui uno de esos tipos a los que las mujeres cuentan sus desgracias amorosas. A veces las abrazaba mientras lloraban y me atrevía a acariciar su pelo de manera furtiva. Estas situaciones me provocaban una sensación terrible de agotamiento emocional. Un día decidí dejar que escuchar y dedicarme a mis propios asuntos. El silencio que noto a mi alrededor es más desolador que el parloteo incesante. Extraño el olor del cabello abandonado. Love After Love For many years I was one of those guys whom women tell their love woes. Sometimes I hugged them while they cried and I dared to stroke their poaching hair. These situations caused me a terrible feeling of emotional exhaustion. One day I decided to stop listening and pursued my own business. The silence I notice around is more desolate than the incessant chatter. I miss the smell of left hair.

En sus rostros se dibuja la incertidumbre cuando hablo de intereses y capitalización trimestral de créditos. No saben que al acabar la jornada soy yo el que se sienta en la mesa de la cocina para seguir, con una calculadora y un millón de promesas de futuro, peleando con el TAE y la insaciable comezón bancaria. Financial Arithmetic This course I ll have to explain school students the topic of financial arithmetic again. On their faces uncertainty is drawn when I talk about interests and quarterly capitalization of credits. They know that at the end of the day I'm the one who sits at the kitchen table to continue, with a calculator and a million promises of future, fighting with the APR and the insatiable itch bank. Móvil El sonido del móvil en mitad de la madrugada no suele ser señal de buenas noticias. Hay gente que apaga el teléfono antes de dormir esperando que los malos augurios se cansen de esperar hasta la llegada del alba. No esperábamos gran cosa de aquella noche, así que nos fuimos pronto a la cama. Cuando llamaron a las tres de la mañana y mi amigo gritó que su hijo ya había nacido pensé que habría que seguir dando oportunidades a la vida. Mobile Phone The sound of the phone in the middle of the morning is not usually a signal of good news. Some people turn off the phone before they go to bed hoping the bad omens will get tired of waiting until dawn. We did not expect much that night, so we went to bed early. When they called at three in the morning and my friend shouted that his son was born I thought I should continue to give opportunities to life.

Ha escrito los poemarios: Delirios de Polvo Blanco (2001); Rafael Rojo Libanés (2006); La Europa del Aborigen (Comuniter, 2011); Le Tour Cartonero (Libros del(a) imperdible, 2011), además de haber participado en numerosas antologías y proyectos grupales. Está, parece ser, muerto. Y enterrado (Dios lo remedie) en una bodega. Ahí comenzó, dijeron luego, el sol de su vida eterna. Anfitrión y espacio de acogida de la Gloria. O eso dijeron, insisto. Se hizo de uvas. Como quien se transforma eucarísticamente en sangre de Cristo. Braulio: compuesto y de vida intensa y fugaz. Con su túnica de madera de roble americano. O eso dijeron. Digo. Y así se lo cuento yo. Hoja de cata Abría la sesión un tinto antiguo. Con aire picado y sabor a corcho. El blanco actuaba (porque ejercer siempre ejercen los tintos) de fiscal. Y el abogado era un clarete joven y cabizbajo. Orden en la sala. Júbilo en la espera tras la puerta, con efluvios torpes de calimocho. Orden en la sala! El joven tinto nacido de las piedras no necesitó juicios paralelos. Se levantó orgulloso y altanero. Bebió un sorbo de sí mismo. Aquella fue memorable demostración, la que perdura, sin atisbos de ser ni parecer. Que no es poco. Awake Braulio awakes. He seems to be dead. And buried (God remedy it) in a warehouse. There began, they said later, the sun of eternal life. Host and reception area of the Glory eternal. Or so they said, I insist. He was made of grapes. Like the one who eucharistically becomes the blood of Christ. Braulio: composed and intense and fleeting life. With his coat of American oak. Or so they said. I say. And so I tell myself. Tasting Sheet An ancient red wine opened the meeting. Perished air and taste of cork. The white acted (because they act, the wines always act) as a taxer. And the lawyer was a young claret and downcast. Order in the court. Joy in the waiting behind the door, with clumpsy scents of calimocho 1. Order in the court! The young red born of the stones did not need parallel trials. He stood up proud and haughty. He took a sip of himself. That was memorable demonstration, that lasts, without glimpses of being nor seeming. Which is quite a lot. 1. Calimocho is a beverage, made out of coke and wine, typically drunk by Spanish youngsters.

Su órgano vinolento no se asombraba. Eso no le pasaría si fuera tinto joven; lágrima acorde de mil cepas, garnacha generosa que los siglos vio. Verso vinícola. Vínicas palabras de uva. Sea dicho. Vinicultor. Estadillo apropiado desbocado en un racimo vinífero. Con vinosidad ofertó al vinoso mosto que ya es padre fermentado. Prendió el vinote; alambique la mayor. Somos viña, y a la viña iremos. A cazar sarmientos; melancólicos sueños. Winemaking Onirism He breathed out of his glass with some winolence, that didn t do him any good. His winolent body was not surprised. That would not happen if it were a young red, tear of thousand strains, generous grenache who the centuries saw. Wine verse. Winy words of grapes. Be said. Winemaker. Appropriate scoreboard runaway in a winy cluster. With winosity he bid grape juice that is already a fermented parent. He lit the wine, still the largest. We are vineyard and to the vineyard we shall. To hunt branches: melancholic dreams. Obrar milagro Donde suelta la torre su sombra alargada. En el año del Señor dos mil once. Así pues quedó escrito en este testamento, donde se nos da copia fehaciente y auténtica de cómo la uva, sagrada fruta de la vid, convirtiose en vino. En vino y en temperamento, de la tierra que lo vio nacer. A la tierra que, vive Dios, lo ve beber, usted a su salud. Making a Miracle Where the tower released its long shadow. 16 MADRID, 1979 SERGIO DEL MOLINO Ha publicado los libros Malas influencias, Soldados en el jardín de la paz (ambos en 2009), El restaurante favorito de Nina Hagen (2011) y No habrá más enemigo (2012), su última novela, que resultó finalista del Premio Francisco Casavella Colabora en Heraldo de Aragón donde ejerció el periodismo como reportero durante diez años y en otros medios, como Mondosonoro, Aragón Radio y varias revistas culturales. Algunos de sus cuentos han sido publicados en Francia y en Bulgaria. Es también autor del blog cultural sergiodelmolino.com. Las reglas de los náufragos dicen que este mensaje debería estar dentro de la botella, pero lo he colocado fuera para asegurarme de que lo leen, para que todo el mundo lo vea y nadie pueda fingir que no se ha enterado. Estoy perdido en algún lugar que no conozco. Sé que está muy lejos de mi casa, y hay sol y un mar que a veces es verde y a veces no. Supongo que han intentado buscarme, que me echan de menos, pero yo a ustedes, no. Por eso les pido auxilio: no me rescaten y sálvenme de mis salvadores. Me ha costado mucho esfuerzo perderme para que ahora lo estropeen encontrándome. S.O.S. The rules of castaways say that this message should be inside the bottle, but I put on the outside to make sure that it is read, that everyone sees and no one can pretend not to have read. I'm lost somewhere I do not know. I know it is far from my house, and that there is a sun and a sea that is sometimes green and sometimes not. No me hables de campos de los que no entiendo y cuéntame de ti, de esta acera y de estos pies que tanta prisa llevan. Bucolic I do not know the smell of recently-mown grass, nor the meadow s dew, nor the ripe fruit ready to fall from the branch, nor first-press oil. I cannot distinguish the song of the birds nor which winds foreshadow storm and which the winter. I cannot name the colours of the autumn or point out which trees get leafless and which ones retain their leaves. The only green I know is that of the traffic lights, and rain always bothers me. Do not talk to me about fields that I do not understand, and tell me about you, about this sidewalk and these feet in such a rush.

La sala se congeló. Sólo una tos rompió el silencio. Los espectadores abrían tanto los ojos que parecían tocar los naipes con ellos. Estás seguro, chavalín? Mira que no lo puedo hacer más despacio el mago manco sonreía con la baraja en la mano izquierda. El chavalín pidió permiso, cogió el mazo de cartas y se puso el brazo derecho a la espalda, barajando con la izquierda. Repitió el juego y acertó la carta. El mago manco, furioso, le exigió una explicación. Como en todo respondió el chavalín, el truco consiste en fingir que te importa. The Trick I have it, I have it, I know how you did it! The room froze. Only a cough broke the silence. Spectators opened their eyes so much that that it seemed they would touch the cards. Are you sure, little guy? Look, I cannot do it more slowly the magician smiled with the pack of cards in his left hand. The little boy asked for permission, took the pack and put his right arm behind his back, shuffling with his left. He repeated the game and guessed the card. The one-armed wizard, furious, demanded an explanation. As in everything, replied the little guy the trick is to pretend you care. Celos Celoso yo? Sólo porque te pregunto adónde vas y de dónde vienes? Me intereso por tu vida y resulta que tengo celos? Sólo porque me empeño en acompañarte a las fiestas? Sólo porque te libré del pesado aquel que no dejaba de hablarte? Cómo dices? Grata conversación? Vamos, anda, si te vi bostezar desde la puerta. No, no digas eso, no le empujé: la copa de vino se derramó por accidente. Y qué culpa tengo yo de que llevara camisa blanca? Quería que le confundieran con un camarero? Y no, no me echaron, me fui yo. Que soy celoso, dices. Qué ridiculez. Por cierto, adónde vas tan arreglada? Jealousy Me, jealous? Just because I ask you where you're going and where you come from? I am interested in your life, and it turns out I am jealous? Just because I insist in accompanying you to all the parties? Just because I got rid of the guy who did not stop talking to you? What? Good conversation? Come on, come on, I saw you yawning from the door. No, do not say that, I didn t push him: the glass of wine was spilled by accident. It s not my fault he was wearing a white shirt. Did he want to be confused with a waiter? And no, they didn t throw me out, I was me who went away. I'm jealous, you say. How ridiculous. By the way, where are you going dressed like that?

19 CUENCA, 1987 ANA MUÑOZ Estudia Lengua y Literatura Españolas. Ha sido premiada en certámenes de prosa y poesía y sus poemas han sido recogidos en distintas publicaciones. Es autora de Solo para la noche (Lola editorial, 2009). Su grupo de música se llama Louisiana, con quienes ha publicado Louisiana (Virtualbum, 2011). Participa en el programa A Vivir Aragón, dirigido por Miguel Mena, en Radio Zaragoza (Cadena Ser). Ha trabajado como guionista y actriz en diferentes proyectos audiovisuales. Y de postre, en una dentellada certera, se llevó media sinfonía del cuaderno de música. El chaval no se dio cuenta así que llegó al concurso de talentos del piano, subió al estrado y comenzó a tocar. Le fueron pasando las páginas y cuando el allegro alcanzaba su cénit, oh sorpresa, la partitura aparecía rasgada por el voraz mordisco. No pudo sino improvisar e inventarse sobre la marcha una nueva melodía. Y lo hizo con tanto oficio que nadie supo ni ha sabido aún cómo ni cuándo detenerle. Han pasado 16 años y el joven maestro sigue tocando en el que es, sin duda, el más largo de certamen de la historia del piano. Voracious Symphony The dog had eaten his homework. Se convenció de que en mitad del océano había una inmensa roca salina, contra la que ( cómo nadie lo había pensado antes?) debió chocar el Titanic. Fue en la sala de embarque de un aeropuerto donde, de pronto, una bofetada de realidad desbarató su lógica de infancia. Tranquilo, chaval. Los motores no van a fallar y no podemos dejarte subir al avión embadurnado de plumas y alquitrán. Desde aquella tarde ya no quiso volar. Childhood logic As a child he wanted to follow the fireflies to see where they took their light. La tienda olía a cueva húmeda. Julián al verme aparecer con la garrafa de cristal en la mano no me preguntaba nada. Ya sabía el vino que mi padre bebía. Abría el grifo de uno de los barriles que se alineaban frente a él y el líquido rojo golpeaba con fuerza el fondo del vaso medidor de plástico. Yo pensaba que ese vino sería de los peores, de los más baratos. Siempre me apetecía probar el que escondían los otros toneles, oscuros y misteriosos. When I was little my father would send me to Julian to buy wine in bulk. The store smelled like a damp cave. Julian saw me coming up with the glass bottle in my hand and did not ask me anything. He knew what wine my father drank. He opened the tap of one of the barrels lined up opposite him and the red liquid poured down the bottom of the plastic measuring cup. I thought this wine would be the worst, one of the cheapest. I always wanted to try the one hidden in the other barrels, dark and mysterious. Había una pareja mayor sentada cerca de nuestra mesa en el restaurante. Mira, son como nosotros dentro de unos años, le dije a mi novio. Está grabándolo?, me susurró mi novio. El camarero degolló la botella de un tajo limpio con una pequeña espada. La mujer soltó la cámara y empezó a aplaudir. There was an older couple sitting near our table in the restaurant. "Look, in a few years we'll look like them," I told my boyfriend. The waiter, at his side, heated the neck of a bottle of wine with some sort of torch. The woman took out a camera from her bag. I noticed the discomfort of the old man and that of my own boyfriend. He did not like me to take pictures during our travels. I watched them covertly. "Is she recording it?" I whispered to my boyfriend. The waiter beheaded the bottle with a clean sweep of a small sword. The woman dropped the camera and started clapping.

Desde que mi padre había fallecido iba a comer con mi madre una vez por semana. Un día me atreví a decirle: Mamá, a mí no me gusta el vino frío como al papá. Yo lo prefiero del tiempo. Mi madre se disculpó. Tapó el vino y lo metió en una alacena de la cocina. Ella no bebía, así que a la semana siguiente sacó ese mismo vino, un poco picado, del mueble de madera. Pensé que ya no vería una botella medio empezada cada vez que abriera el frigorífico. Le dije: Tal vez sea buena idea tomarlo un poco fresquito. Al fin y al cabo estamos en verano. Cuando llamé al timbre y el chico moreno abrió la puerta me olvidé de la botella por completo y sonreí. The bottles were lined up on the supermarket shelf but I couldn't settle on any of them. At Laura's birthday party I had given my phone number to a dark-haired boy, but didn't think he would call me the day after. I was wrong. Finally, with some carelessness, I chose a bottle with a nice label. While walking down the street sometimes I felt light and my feet seemed not to touch the ground and sometimes I felt the weight of the bottle in my bag as the ball like a prisoner. When I rang the bell and the dark-haired boy opened the door I forgot the bottle completely and smiled.

Pero él ya era adulto y hacía mucho tiempo que aquella casa la habitaban desconocidos. Allí estaba él: con su reloj de oro, su posición social, sus tres coches, sus hijos universitarios, su segunda mujer. Como los niños que rebuscan en los cajones, tampoco sabía qué quería encontrar allí después de tantos años. Probablemente buscaba un recuerdo que nunca tuvo: salir de la escuela, llegar a casa, besar a su madre, recibir un abrazo. Llevaba un gorro calado hasta las orejas, bufanda verde y abrigo de plumas. Y bajo el brazo, un cartapacio casi tan grande como su cuerpo. Caminaba muy deprisa, achinando los ojos para protegerse del viento de cara y saltándose los semáforos en rojo. Tardó unos segundos en reconocerla, en reconocerse. Allí estaba ella 25 años antes, corriendo para llegar a la cita en el periódico en la que iba a mostrar sus dibujos. Estuvo a punto de salir tras la chica del gorro para tranquilizarla: Te irá bien, te darán la oportunidad y allí trabajarás durante 25 años, pero prefirió obviar aquel cruce de dimensiones paralelas. 31 SAN SEBASTIÁN, 1978 JUAN LUIS SALDAÑA Trabaja como periodista en televisión. Es licenciado en Derecho y Máster en Periodismo por la Universidad de Zaragoza. Colabora como columnista en Heraldo de Aragón, Diario Aragonés y la revista Aragón en Portada. Él se defendía: "es un vino muy animal. Hay que saber beberlo". Cuando se murió el tío Rana, acudió sólo un sobrino de la ciudad. Me vio vagueando en la plaza y me ofreció un dinero por ayudarlo. Sacamos trastos, limpiamos el polvo de la bodega y me dio unas botas de caña alta para ayudarle a vaciar el lagar. Mientras yo rascaba las paredes, él sacaba paladas de uva pisada. En el fondo del lagar, el sobrino del tío Rana encontró los restos de tres gatos negros más tiesos que la misma muerte. Me dio quinientas pesetas y me dijo: "entiérralos en la huerta y que no se entere nadie nunca". Uncle Rana Uncle Rana s wine was the worst wine that was made in this region. A los ochenta y nueve años publicó su último poema en una modesta revista de su pueblo. 38 BLANCO Principalmente elaborado con la variedad Macabeo. Tiene un color amarillo pálido, casi transparente. Muy limpio y brillante con unos intensos reflejos de oro metalizado y alguna tonalidad verdosa. Aroma intenso frutal (manzana, cítricos ). Una ligera acidez lo hace fresco y vivo en el paladar, llenando la boca de un sabor penetrante que permanece en el posgusto. Recomendable para tomarlo solo, como aperitivo, o acompañando a mariscos o pescados a la plancha. Mejor que no pase de los 8ºC para consumirlo. Si se puede, en cubitera con agua y hielo. Mainly elaborated with the Macabeo variety. Its colour is pale yellow, nearly transparent. Very clean and bright with intense metallic golden gleams and slight green tones. Its bouquet is intense and fruity (apple, citrus fruits...). A light sourness makes it refreshing and alive in the palate, filling your mouth with a penetrating flavour that leaves an aftertaste. Posee una notable potencia aromática que recuerda a las frutas rojas maduras (a fresa, cereza ) y a las golosinas blandas. Sabroso y refrescante al paladar con un punto de sana adicción que invita a beber. Para tomarlo solo o en compañía de arroces, embutidos, pasta, pizza o lo que nos de la gana. Si está fresco y no pasa de los 10ºC, lo degustaremos mejor. Insisto en lo de la cubitera de agua con hielo ya se pondrá a su temperatura adecuada en la copa. Por cierto, elaborado con Garnacha.
