Location explains part of it but another reason is the positive welcoming attitude of this parish for generations. Of course this requires effort and conscious choice. It is completely understandable that some would prefer a church with no reminders of poverty, people occasionally acting up, or smells. But such a church would not be following the example of the Shepherd who scandalized the people of his day by welcoming prostitutes and eating with sinners. If this is God s house then it belongs to everyone, and the belonging to everyone builds up its holiness and shows its Catholic ( universal ) nature. In a few weeks we ll set down simple rules --- for homeless people and for parishioners at large --- that will help us continue this distinctive and holy tradition of Sacred Heart parish. Peace and All Good! Una nota del Párroco Queridos amigos, Algo que me encanta del Sagrado Corazón es que nuestra iglesia es seleccionada por muchas personas sin hogar. La localizacion explica en parte esto... pero otra razón es la actitud positiva de acogida de la parroquia por generaciones. Por supuesto, esto requiere un esfuerzo y una elección consciente. Es totalmente comprensible que algunos preferirían una iglesia sin recordatorios de la pobreza, algunos a veces se portan mal, o hueloen mal. Pero esta iglesia no estaría siguiendo el ejemplo del pastor que escandalizó a la gente de su tiempo dando la bienvenida a las prostitutas y comiendo con los pecadores. Si esta es la casa de Dios, entonces es de todos, y "el pertenecer a todos" construye su santidad y muestra su naturaleza ("universal") Católica. En pocas semanas vamos a establecer normas simples --- para las personas sin hogar y para los parroquianos en general --- que nos ayudará a continuar con esta tradición distintiva y santa de la parroquia del Sagrado Corazón. 6 Sacred Heart School donated over 400 uniform pieces to Guillermo Ungo, El Salvador, a K-12 grade school in El Salvador with 500 plus students. "We have been looking for a good home for our uniforms since we changed our plaid a couple of years ago, so when we heard of a non-profit called Santa Cruz Al Salvador from one of our families, we were thrilled!", said Ms. Dean, Principal. The group just got back from a trip to El Salvador where they were able to take some of the uniforms and will take the balance later this year. "Many of the children only have one school outfit, so this was a very nice surprise and they were all very thankful." said Steve Barrett, coordinator for the trip.
