3 Page 3 December 17, 2017 FROM THE Today we celebrate PRIESTS DESK the Third Sunday of Advent, traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday, so-called from the first word of the antiphon at the Introitus (Entrance) of this day s Mass: Gaudete in Domino semper (Phil 4:4-5). Gaudete, from the Latin: (Rejoice). This Sunday sets a tone of joyful expectation for the Lord s birth and Blessed Return, as does the permitted use of rose colored vestments. The season of Advent is a time to recall the cry of the early Christians: Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! We are invited to experience something wonderful as we celebrate the Eucharist: a relationship with a God so intimate that he chose to become one with the human family by taking on human form. Therefore, everyone is encouraged to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a way of assisting the people of God in preparing for the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord. During Advent, the secular world focuses on decorating, shopping and without doubt rushing towards the celebration of Christmas, the Church gives us the Season of Advent as a way to practice discipline and patience in preparation for the great mystery of the Birth of Christ. The hope of Christians is turned to the future but remains firmly rooted in an event of the past. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, Gal 4:4). (Ordo, General Norms for the Liturgical Year, 2018). Del Escritorio Hoy celebramos Del Sacerdote el III Domingo de Adviento, conocido tradicionalmnte como Gaudete, primera palabra de la antífona de entrada en la Misa de hoy: Gaudete in Domino semper (Fil 4:4-5). Gaudete, del Latín: (Alegría). Este Domingo fija un tono de jubilosa expectación con motivo del nacimiento del Señor y su venturoso Regreso, y la utilización del color rosa en las celebraciones litúrgicas de este día. La época de Adviento nos recuerda la expresión de los antiguos cristianos: Maranatá! Ven Señor! Así, somos invitados a experimentar algo maravilloso en cada Eucaristía: una profunda relación con el Dios que descendió y tomó nuestra forma. Durante este tiempo se nos anima acudir a Confesión, ya que es manera en que el creyente se prepara para la Solemnidad de la Natividad del Señor. El mundo secular se enfoca en compras y decoraciones externas durante el Adviento, sin duda precipitándose hacia la Navidad. La Iglesia, sin embargo, nos ofrece esta época para practicar la disciplina y la paciencia mientras avanzamos hacia el misterio de la Natividad de Cristo. Nuestra esperanza apunta al futuro estando sólidamente arraigada en un evento del pasado. Cuando se cumplió el tiempo establecido, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de una mujer y sujeto a la Ley, (Gal 4:4). (Ordo, Normas Universales del Año Litúrgico, 2018).

4 Page 4 December 17, 2017 THE VIRGIN MARY'S ROLE IN SALVATION HISTORY To speak of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the history of Salva on is to speak of the presence of God throughout history. The daughter of Zion is present in different texts of the Old Testament. LA SANTISIMA VIRGEN MARIA EN LA HISTORIA DE LA SALVACION. Hablar de la San sima Virgen María en la historia de la Salvación, es hablar de la presencia de Dios a lo largo de la Historia. La hija de Sión está presente en dis ntos textos del An guo Testamento. Luego de la falta de Adán y Eva, que los separa del Paraíso, es María es la nueva Eva, es por ello que cobra especial relevancia en el Nuevo Testamento, especialmente en los Evangelios Sinóp cos (similares: Mateo, Marcos y Lucas), destacándose en el Evangelio de Lucas, donde se le logra conocer mejor a través del anuncio que le hace el ángel, que será madre de Dios; de la visita que hace a su prima Santa Isabel, quien se encuentra también embarazada, esperando a su hijo quien será Juan el Bau sta. Jesús se hizo hombre a través de María, de una mujer, dignificando a la mujer en la historia, mostrando al mundo que María ejemplifica la máxima obediencia a los planes y propósitos de Dios en la vida de los seres humanos. Por lo tanto, el lugar y la importancia de María en la historia de la Salvación, radica en que ella ene un lugar importante y privilegiado, por ser el medio humano que Dios usó para llevar a cabo su plan redentor y salvador, por medio de lo divino en lo humano, que es nacimiento de Jesús. María fue el puente por el que entró al mundo el Dios invisible. Siendo ella la primera y única en llevar en su vientre al Hijo de Dios, es decir, María dio a luz al Salvador del mundo.

Luminaries (battery operated) will be displayed around the Church and will be lit before and after the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve. Luminaries may be taken after the Mass to be enjoyed at home. Just a reminder for anyone requiring a Godparent eligibility letter: If anyone wishes for us to issue a letter confirming that they are an active parishioner and can be considered to be a godparent we require you to be: Registered in the Parish for at least six months Be active in both attendance and offertory*. **If you do not give financially or if you give cash only, we ask you to have confirmation that you do attend, i.e., an usher you talk to every Sunday or another parishioner who can confirm that you do indeed go to Mass.** Minivan donation for our Church! If you would like to use envelopes but are not registered, please fill out a registration form located at the Church entrance (Robinson St. entrance) and drop in collection basket or stop by the office.
