PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF 2 ND GRADE STUDENTS Our school is in the process of gathering information about Grade 2 students to help make appropriate instructional program recommendations for the school year, including screening for Gifted and Talented (GT) identification. All Grade 2 students in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) are assessed using the InView, which is an assessment of cognitive abilities that measures the skills and abilities most related to academic success. Our school s dates for the assessment are Wednesday, November 29, Thursday, November 30, and Monday, December 4. The assessment will be given in the morning starting at 9:30 a.m. On these days, please avoid scheduling doctor s appointments., and make sure students arrive on time to school. The school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, and the last day of school is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, The calendar includes 182 days of instruction; a shortened spring break; two closure days for planning and professional development; and two operational closures that coincide with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. WHAT HAPPENS DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER WHEN Closure of schools When schools are closed, all school and community activities are canceled, including athletic practices and events. Private day care providers in schools may elect to stay open if the administrative offices are open. In extreme conditions, the administrative offices may be closed. Delayed opening If schools are closed or delayed, the announcement is made no later than 5:00 a.m. (or the night before if possible).

5 Schools may open two hours late, and all operations, including bus transportation, are delayed by two hours from the regular schedule. Full-day kindergarten will follow the regular education school schedule. Morning Head Start and morning prekindergarten are canceled. Field trips and other activities and programs that begin at 10:30 or earlier (such as the Thomas Edison High School of Technology) are canceled. Early dismissal If schools are closing early, the announcements are made by 11:00 a.m. Schools may be closed 2.5 hours early, and all operations affecting dismissal of students, including bus transportation, will be activated 2.5 hours earlier than the regular school closing time. Full-day kindergarten will follow the regular education school schedule. Students in morning Head Start and morning prekindergarten will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Midday Head Start and afternoon prekindergarten are canceled. School and community activities for the afternoon and evening are canceled.
