3 Happy spring, Guilford Families! With the snow behind us, we can look ahead to a productive fourth quarter. I am very proud of all of the students who participated in the 2 nd Annual Redskins Reading Challenge! These students will receive a prize from the Washington Redskins for reading at least 1000 minutes over a period of a month and a half! I also want to congratulate all of the students who have won a Character Award this year. These students were recognized with a certificate and their picture on the wall outside of the cafeteria. They earned the award based on their respect, responsibility, friendship to others, perseverance, honesty and fairness. If your child brings home one of these awards, please be sure to congratulate him/her and ask how they believed they earned this honor. I would like to extend an invitation to all Guilford parents to attend our next coffee hour on April 24 in the school cafeteria. Our reading team will present information to parents about integrating reading into your child s everyday life. We also have brand-new free books to give away at this event! This year, our coffee hours have included presentations on many different topics, designed to address various stages of child development and school readiness. Here is a recap of those topics: orientation to Guilford and staff, information about Head Start and Early Head Start, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families, helping children with social awareness, and assistance with interpersonal relations among family members. I If you have an interest in learning about other topics, please let me know and I will try to find a community expert on that subject. Estoy muy orgullosa de todos los estudiantes que participaron en el 2do Reto Anual de Lectura organizado por los Pieles Rojas! Estos estudiantes recibirán un premio por parte de los Pieles Rojas de Washington por haber leído por lo menos 1000 minutos en un mes y medio. También quiero felicitar a todos los estudiantes que han ganado un Premio de Carácter este año. Estos estudiantes fueron reconocidos con un certificado y su fotografía se mostró en la pared de afuera de la cafetería. Ellos ganaron este premio basándose en el respeto, responsabilidad, amistad, perseverancia, honestidad y rectitud. Si sus hijos llevan a casa alguno de estos premios, por favor asegúrense de felicitarlos y preguntarles cómo es que ellos creen que se ganaron este honor. Quisiera extender una invitación a los padres de Guilford para que asistan a nuestra próxima Hora del Café el 24 de Abril en la cafetería. Nuestro equipo de lectura presentará información para los padres acerca de cómo integrar la lectura diaria en la vida de sus hijos. También, en este evento tendremos libros nuevos y gratis para regalar! Este año, nuestra Hora del Café ha incluido presentaciones sobre diferentes temas, dirigidos a los diversos pasos del desarrollo infantil y preparación escolar. Aquí esta una recopilación de esos temas: Orientación acerca de Guilford y su personal, información acerca de Ventaja y Ventaja Temprana, 7 Hábitos de Familias muy Eficientes, Ayudando a los Niños con su Conciencia Social, y Asistencia con Relaciones Interpersonales entre los Miembros de la Familia Si ustedes tienen interés en aprender otros temas, por favor háganme saber y trataré de encontrar en nuestra comunidad a algún experto en la materia.
