The average stay decreased 1.4%, as compared with September 2010, and stood at 5.7 nights per traveller. In the first nine months of the year, overnight stays increased 5.4% as compared with the same period the previous year. Overnight stays of residents experienced an increase of 10.9%, and those of non-residents increased 10.2%. The average stay decreased 4.4%, as compared with September 2010, standing at 7.0 overnights stays per traveller. In order to avoid this break in the series, linking coefficients have been calculated, allowing for comparing the data from different years. The coefficients are published monthly on the INE website, in the section dedicated to this statistical operation, in a specific section entitled linking coefficients.

The weekend occupancy rate by bedplaces stood at 43.9%, with an increase of 9.2% in the interannual rate. In turn, 60.0% of the total available holiday dwellings were occupied, for an interannual increase of 11.2%. Non-resident overnight stays in holiday dwellings represented 73.1% of the total. The United Kingdom was the main country of origin, with 2 million overnight stays, 9.5% more than in September last year. The following country of origin was Germany, with 889,044 overnight stays, 3.8% more. Canarias was the preferred holiday dwelling destination, with more than 2.3 million overnight stays, 11.4% more than in September The second destination of choice was Illes Balears, with 1.6 million overnight stays, 7.9% more. Among non-residents, Canarias, Illes Balears and Comunitat Valenciana were the main destinations of choice. In turn, the destinations with the most overnight stays by resident travellers were Comunitat Valenciana, Canarias and Andalucía. Illes Balears showed the highest occupancy rate, with 76.8% of the available holiday dwellings. It was followed by Comunida de Madrid (71.6%) and Canarias (67.0%). By tourist area, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination in holiday dwellings, with 964,771 million overnight stays, and an occupancy of 81.8% of the dwellings offered. The tourist sites with the greatest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Tías and Arona. Holiday Dwelling Price Index Evolution The Holiday Dwelling Price Index registered an increase of 1.0% in September, a rate 0.9 points lower than that recorded the previous month. The Tour-operators and travel agencies rate, which carried the greatest weight in the weighting structure for this month (53.2%), registered an increase of 1.7%, as compared with the same month the previous year. By modality, 2/4-bedplace holiday dwellings, whose weighting was 66.2%, increased their prices 1.1%. Interannual variation rate HDPI

Overnight stays by resident travellers increased 12.3%, and those of nonresident travellers increased 12.8%. Tourist campsites offered 638,908 bedplaces, 1.4% less than in September % of the available lots were occupied, 6.3% more. The weekend occupancy rate by lot reached 35.0%, with an interannual increase of 1.3%. 45.6% of the overnight stays on tourist campsites were by non-residents. Germany was the main country of origin, with 22.9% of the overnight stays by non-residents (23.1% more than in September 2010). The following country of origin was The United Kingdom. Cataluña was the preferred destination for camping, with 1.3 million overnight stays, 16.5% more. Comunitat Valenciana was the second destination of choice, with 420,953 overnight stays, indicating an interannual decrease of 10.0%. Among residents, the preferred destinations were Cataluña, Andalucía and Comunitat Valenciana. In turn, the destinations with the most overnight stays by non-resident travellers were Cataluña, Comunitat Valenciana and Andalucía. La Rioja reached the highest occupancy rate on campsites, with 62.8% of the available lots occupied. It was followed by Comunidad de Madrid (49.6%) and Comunitat Valenciana (47.4%). By tourist area, Costa Brava was the preferred destination for camping, with 587,051 overnight stays. Costa Barcelona-Maresme reached the highest occupancy (53.6%). The tourist sites with the most overnight stays in September were Benidorm, Salou and Sant Pere Pescador. Tourist Campsite Price Index Evolution Interannual variation rate TCPI The Tourist Campsite Price Index experienced an interannual increase of 2.2% in September. The normal rate, which had the greatest weight in the weighting structure for this month (65.7%), presented an increase of 1.9%. Regarding category, second class, with a weighting of 48.7% this month, registered an interannual increase of 0.9%.

By tourist area, the island of Mallorca was the main destination, with 72,879 overnight stays. The islands Ibiza-Formentera reached the highest occupancy, with 63.8% of the available bedplaces Rural Tourism Accommodation Price Index Evolution Interannual variation rate RTAPI The Rural Tourism Accommodation Price Index experienced an interannual increase of 1.1% in September. The weekend rate, which accounted for 52.6% of the total weight, increased 0.9%. By rent modality, shared use, whose weighting was 52.7%, increased 0.4%. By Autonomous Community, Illes Balears, Castilla y León and Cataluña, which accounted for 53.8% of the total weight in the month of September, registered interannual rates of 2.3%, 1.8% and 4.5%, respectively.

5 Annex Evolution of travellers and overnight stays in all Spanish collective tourist accommodation Overnight stays in Spanish collective tourist accommodation (hotels, holiday dwellings, campsites and rural tourism accommodation) registered an interannual increase of 8.9% 1 in September. Overnight stays by residents increased 3.5%, and non-resident stays increased 12.0%. The average stay increased 1.8%, standing at 4.0 nights per traveller. Illes Balears was the preferred destination regarding overall tourist accommodation, with more than 10.1 million overnight stays (12.4% more than in September 2010). It was followed by Cataluña, with 7.8 million overnight stays (12.0% more) and Canarias, with more than 7.1 million overnight stays (11.2% more). The preferred destinations of non-residents were Illes Balears, Canarias and Cataluña. In turn, Cataluña, Andalucía, and Comunitat Valenciana were the destinations with the most overnight stays by residents.
