2 CFE is Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) is a public & decentralized agency, with legal personality and properties, created in 1937 due to a Presidential decree. CFE generates, transmits, distributes and markets electric power for more than 35.4 million customers (Dec 2011), amounting more than 100 million inhabitants and every year it gets one million of new customers. Different technologies and different primary energy sources are used to produce electric power in CFE : Thermoelectric, hydroelectric, Carbon power, geothermal, Wind power and nuclear power. 2

3 CFE is The infrastructure to generate electric power including: 210 generating stations with an installed capacity of 52,512 megawatts (MW), including Independent Producers with 22 stations and 32 stations of the former Luz y Fuerza. CFE has more than 758,000 kms. of transmission & distribution lines. CFE is the federal government agency in charge of planning the domestic energy system which is included in the Programa de Obras e Inversiones del Sector Eléctrico -POISE (Works & Investment Program of the Electric Sector). 3

5 Goals The National Development Plan states that renewable energy sources shall be fostered. The Energy Sector Program specifies that energy supply must be assured while mitigating the environmental impact. The National Infrastructure Program states that efforts should be made so that renewable sources must represent 25% of the Effective Generation Capacity. 5
