Titus 3:5 Thank you to all for your generous donations with the Christmas celebrations as well as for the beautiful Christmas decorations for May God reward you and your family for your generosity. We ask the Lord for the grace to receive the Holy Spirit that will make us remember the things of Jesus, who will guide us into all truth and prepare us every day to make this witness, to give this little martyrdom every day or great martyrdom, according to the will of the Lord. 2 Twenty-sixth The Baptism Sunday of the Lord in Ordinary Time September 27, January , 2016 MANIFESTING THE SPIRIT The Christmas season closes this Sunday with the Baptism of the Lord. This feast is a sister to last week s feast of the Epiphany. Each of them celebrates an epiphany, or a manifestation of the Spirit of God in Jesus first in his birth, and now at his baptism. The divine Spirit is manifested in all of the scriptures for this feast. Psalm 104 highlights the Spirit of God creating and renewing the earth, while the reading from Isaiah describes God restoring Israel. In Luke s account of the baptism of the Lord the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus. And the letter to Titus reminds us that the Holy Spirit was richly poured out on us also, through the bath of rebirth (Titus 3:5, 6). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. MANIFESTANDO AL ESPÍRITU El tiempo de Navidad finaliza este domingo con el Bautismo del Señor. Esta fiesta es hermana de la fiesta de la semana pasada, la Epifanía. Cada una ellas celebra una epifanía, o manifestación del Espíritu de Dios en Jesús primero en su nacimiento y ahora en su bautismo. El Espíritu Divino se manifiesta en todas las lecturas bíblicas de la fiesta. El Salmo 104 destaca al Espíritu de Dios que crea y renueva la tierra, mientras que la lectura de Isaías describe a Dios restaurando a Israel. En el relato de Lucas del bautismo del Señor el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre Jesús. 5 The Thirty-third Baptism Sunday of the Lord in Ordinary Time November January 15, , 2016 Jubilee Year of Mercy Pope Francis Prayer for the Year of Mercy Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face, and we will be saved. +++ Pilgrimage Sites and Special Indulgences Pope Francis has instructed that special indulgences be available for the faithful. They may be obtained by making a journey or pilgrimage to any of the designated Jubilee Churches for oneself or for individuals who have died. Crossing through a Holy Door is a spiritual journey that signals, as the Holy Father said, the deep desire for true conversion. Archbishop Jose Gomez has named certain churches in the Archdiocese to be local pilgrimage sites. These churches will have designated holy doors, though which the faithful will pass towards the path of spiritual renewal. The Archdiocese provides opportunities for the faithful to seek and find extraordinary indulgence' from God the Father through Jesus Christ, Himself the true face of the Father s mercy. The designated Pilgrimage Sites in the San Pedro Pastoral Region are: Deanery 17 St. Dominic Savio, Bellflower Deanery 18 St. Mary of the Assumption, Whittier Deanery 19 Church of the American Martyrs, Manhattan Beach St. Catherine of Alexandria, Avalon Deanery 20 St. Anthony Church, Long Beach Aside from a heart well-disposed to receive God s mercy and for the grace to bring its desired fruits, other conditions are required for the faithful to obtain the special indulgence of the Jubilee of Mercy. Attend Mass or Pray before the Blessed Sacrament Make Profession of Faith Go to Confession or Sacrament of Reconciliation Receive Holy Communion and Pray for the Holy Father and his intentions In particular, taking into consideration the spirit of this Holy Year, it is suggested that pilgrims recite the lovely prayer of Pope Francis for the Jubilee, and that they conclude the time of prayer with an invocation to the merciful Lord Jesus (for example, Merciful Jesus, I trust in You ).
