CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY CHILDREN 9

CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY A MESSAGE FROM FATHER LARRY Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, A blast of arctic air has provided us with an undeniable reminder that the seasons are changing. (Personally, I much prefer this to a significant accumulation of snow before mid- November.) The grass is still green. The roads are easily passable and the trees, though deprived of their late and briefly colored leaves are all still there. The essentials remain the same but the circumstances are somewhat altered a gentle transition, nature s nudge as we fumble for scarves and gloves. Leisurely conversations with friends which might otherwise have taken place in the parking lot or along the sidewalks are rushed at the doors of the church and completed later by phone or, now, by e-mail or text message. Long walks on city streets and country lanes require different attire and may prompt a different pace. The lighter fare of summer salads yields to hearty soups and root vegetables. The tomatoes and zucchini which were present in perhaps too great an abundance just a few weeks ago are locked in Ball jars and await a special occasion to add luster to the winter meal with friends in the long evenings that are the hallmark of the season. Governor Wilbur Cross 1936 Thanksgiving proclamation reminds us : Time out of mind at this turn of the seasons when the hardy oak leaves rustle in the wind and the frost gives a tang to the air and the dusk falls early and the friendly evenings lengthen under the heel of Orion, it has seemed good to our people to join together in praising the Creator and Preserver, who has brought us by a way that we did not know to the end of another year. While malicious persons, with foul words and deeds, tear at the fragile fabric of peace between people and among nations, the poet reminds us that there remains the dearest freshness deep down things, and so, strengthened by our faith and holding a firm resolution to be messengers of peace and solidarity, we will gather with loved ones to remember and to rejoice, to light candles against the encroaching darkness, confident that He who is the Light of the world will have the last word. He will bring Wisdom, whose ways, according to scripture, are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. The seasons change. Perhaps this old world can too. Let us be one with our brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors, regardless of their faith, all men, women and children of good will, this Sunday at 1:30 PM in the Saint Joseph Church Hall for the Annual Community Thanksgiving Service and, if we are able, for the W.A.I.M. Walk For Warmth that will follow at 2 PM and for the fellowship that will follow. Remembering the story of the Good Samaritan, when Jesus asks us who is neighbor to the one who fell among thieves, let each of us answer confidently and without hesitation, I am! So many of you answer Here I am to the call for volunteers for the many ministries of these three parishes which form the Corpus Christi Catholic Community that my heart and, I know, the hearts of countless others, who benefit from your generous spirit, are brimming over with gratitude. Thankfully yours in Christ, Fr.
