WIABE Invites Bilingual Students in Wisconsin to participate in our statewide writing contest! Elementary school, middle school, and high school students who are learning in two languages are encouraged to participate in the WIABE 2018 Student Writing Contest. Students are invited to write about the: SSS How to Participate Write an essay related to the theme: Complete the WIABE Student Writing Contest Registration Form Email the essay and registration form to WIABE no later than: Friday, February 9, 2018 Eligibility Rules Participation in the contest is limited to students who are in grades 3-12 and learning in two languages Family members of the WIABE Board are not eligible Only entries that comply with the following rules will be considered: Previous contest winners are not eligible Language: The essay may be written in the student s language of choice Subject: The essay must relate to the theme: Format: The essay must be typed as a Word Document, 12 point font, double spaced and no more than 2 pages Registration Form: Each essay must include the WIABE Student Writing Contest Registration Form. The student s name should not appear on the essay. Registration require the signature of the teacher and a parent/guardian verifying that the student meets the contest eligibility criteria. Criteria Each essay will be judged on: Development of the theme 15% Content and clarity of expression 40% Originality 25% Grammar and mechanics 20% All participants will receive a certificate of participation 11
Recognition & Prizes WIABE will recognize winners in each grade category. Prizes will be awarded only to the first place sinner in each category. Grades: 3-5 Grades 6-8 Grades: 9-12 Prizes First place winners in each category will receive a $100 cash prize The winners, along with two parents/guardians and their teacher, will be invited to the awards luncheon during the 2018 WIABE Conference where they will read their essays and receive their awards. The luncheon will be held April 28, 2018 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Winners will receive their award and a one-night stay at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. A parent/guardian must accompany the student in order to receive the one-night stay at the Kalahari Resort. Winners will be featured in the WIABE 2018 program booklet and on the WIABE website All contest participants will receive a certificate of participation Copyright: All essays and photographs will become the property of WIABE and will not be returned. Reconocimiento y premios WIABE reconocerá ganadores en cada categoría de grado. Los premios serán otorgados al ganador del primer lugar de cada categoría.
