Resumen y alcance del análisis Durante más de 20 años, QualityLogic Inc. se ha consolidado como uno de los principales creadores y proveedores de soluciones esenciales para la realización de pruebas destinadas a empresas que diseñan, desarrollan o adquieren tanto impresoras como tecnología de impresión. Los productos y servicios que ofrecemos contribuyen a que nuestros clientes entiendan la forma en que los productos que fabrican o adquieren se ajustan a las especificaciones, así como también las semejanzas y diferencias con respecto a las implementaciones de referencia o a los productos de la competencia. Asimismo, no sólo somos miembros activos de organizaciones internacionales de estandarización, entre las que se incluyen la ISO y Ecma International, sino que también ofrecemos asistencia para las pruebas que realizan las publicaciones tecnológicas líderes a fin de brindar reseñas de impresoras. Por solicitud de Eastman Kodak Company, QualityLogic calculó y comparó el costo de la tinta por página entre las impresoras multifunción EASYSHARE 5100, 5300, 5500, ESP-3 y ESP-5 e impresoras de la competencia seleccionadas por Kodak. El propósito de Kodak era seleccionar impresoras pertenecientes a los fabricantes líderes que contaran con una importante participación en el mercado. El rendimiento de los cartuchos de color y monocromáticos de todas las impresoras se determinó siguiendo los estándares ISO de rendimiento; y el rendimiento en fotografía, mediante la metodología de QualityLogic de rendimiento fotográfico*. Kodak** suministró a QualityLogic los precios de la tinta de las impresoras para la prueba, basándose en el precio sugerido de venta al público por parte del fabricante (PSVP) de cada uno de los cartuchos, en cada uno de los países en esta prueba. A fin de comparar las distintas impresoras, en este informe se evaluaron únicamente cartuchos estándar, como vienen en la caja, o aquellos de rendimiento estándar al precio unitario (es decir, ninguno de alto rendimiento ni de los que se consiguen en paquetes múltiples, combos, paquetes promocionales o promociones especiales). Si bien existen muchos factores al considerar el costo total de propiedad, el costo de la tinta por página resulta importante cuando se evalúa el costo total de propiedad de los sistemas de impresión. Se calculó el costo de la tinta por página dividiendo los precios de los cartuchos entre el rendimiento que cada uno presentó en la prueba. * En este informe, todas las referencias a fotografía aluden a fotos de 4 x 6 pulgadas (unos 10 x 15 cm) sin márgenes. ** Kodak considera que los precios de lista son correctos. Sin embargo, la empresa no se responsabiliza de imprecisión o error alguno ni de las posibles variaciones debido a cambios posteriores al período de investigación establecido (Mayo - julio de 2008). 3

Metodología para calcular el costo de la tinta por página A continuación, se presenta un esquema detallado de la forma en que QualityLogic ejecutó el estudio Costo de la tinta por página para Kodak, valiéndose de información de precios estándar facilitada por Kodak y de metodologías estandarizadas para pruebas de rendimiento. A. Conclusiones de QualityLogic en materia de rendimiento Las pruebas de rendimiento son un proceso que consiste en utilizar las impresoras seleccionadas con los cartuchos correspondientes para agotar la cantidad de tinta o tóner. Luego se cuentan las páginas impresas a fin de determinar cuánto rinde cada cartucho. Por medio de un conjunto estándar de criterios de evaluación, conjunto que arrojará un resultado objetivo y con capacidad de repetirse, se determinan los requisitos y las condiciones de funcionamiento de tales pruebas. QualityLogic es uno de los líderes mundiales en el suministro de servicios relacionados con pruebas de rendimiento. Respaldamos y acatamos las normas ISO (Organización Internacional de Estandarización) correspondientes a las pruebas de impresiones a color y monocromáticas. Diversos fabricantes líderes, entre otros, Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, IBM, Kodak, Lexmark, Oki Data, Pitney Bowes, Ricoh, Toshiba y Xerox, también apoyan el uso de las normas ISO para las pruebas de rendimiento. Actualmente, la ISO está elaborando un estándar para la tinta utilizada en las impresiones fotográficas. No obstante, hasta que ese estándar se publique, QualityLogic usa una metodología propia, que se ajusta bastante al enfoque actual de las normas ISO. Las medidas clave de esos estándares comprenden: Una serie de pruebas estándar. Un mínimo de nueve cartuchos distribuidos entre tres impresoras que son representativas de productos disponibles en el mercado. Criterios claros y objetivos para determinar el fin de la vida útil. Un ambiente de prueba controlado: impresión continua, temperatura y humedad reguladas. Requisitos bien definidos para la confección de informes de rendimiento. 19

Las siguientes páginas contienen tablas relacionadas con los resultados de las pruebas de rendimiento. En esas tablas, se muestra la cantidad de páginas por cartucho que se espera obtener con un índice de confianza del 90 por ciento de acuerdo con nuestras pruebas. Mediante los números en negro, se indican los cartuchos primarios, es decir, cualquier tipo de cartucho del que se haya vaciado un mínimo de nueve unidades entre tres impresoras. A su vez, los cartuchos suplementarios, que representan los cartuchos secundarios para el objetivo del estudio, se indican con números en rojo. Si bien se estableció que los cartuchos suplementarios no son centrales para estas pruebas, se incluyen en los informes a fin de tener una comprensión cabal de la tinta utilizada. Por lo general, los cartuchos primarios correspondientes a cada categoría del estudio son: Impresión monocromática: el cartucho negro. Impresión a color: todos los cartuchos de alta densidad de color cian, magenta y amarillo. Impresión fotográfica: los cartuchos de color u otros de los que se hayan vaciado nueve unidades. QualityLogic llevó a cabo pruebas de rendimiento y proporcionó los informes correspondientes a todos los cartuchos de los modelos que se encuentran en la lista que sigue a continuación (algunos de los modelos también se venden en Europa y en América del Norte). Cada tabla cuenta con subencabezados abreviados que representan los tipos específicos de cartuchos de la siguiente manera: CMY = Un solo cartucho que contenga cian, magenta y amarillo * C = Cian M = Magenta Y = Amarillo K1 = Negro K2 = Un segundo cartucho negro LC = Cian claro LM = Magenta claro 20

B. Precios de los cartuchos En julio de 2008, Kodak investigó y proporcionó a QualityLogic los precios de los cartuchos que se utilizaron en este análisis. A fin de comparar las distintas impresoras, se evaluaron únicamente cartuchos estándar, como vienen en la caja, o aquellos de rendimiento estándar al precio unitario (es decir, ninguno de alto rendimiento ni de los que se consiguen en paquetes múltiples, combos, paquetes promocionales o promociones especiales). A continuación presentamos algunos ejemplos de los cartuchos de tinta y sus precios individuales (esta información se refiere a las impresoras usadas para Argentina). C. Costo de la tinta por página y por cartucho QualityLogic calculó el costo de la tinta por página y por cartucho, dividiendo el precio de cada cartucho (según los precios regionales de cada cartucho provistos por Kodak, que se mencionan en la Sección B) entre el rendimiento de cada unidad en cada modelo (según se estableció en la Sección A). Este cálculo da como resultado el costo de la tinta por página y por cartucho de cada modo de prueba: impresión monocromática, a color y fotográfica (el ejemplo a continuación es de las impresoras usadas para Argentina). Costo de la tinta por página Para cada impresora, el costo de la tinta por página se calcula sumando el costo de la tinta por página de cada cartucho probado en un determinado modelo de impresora (como se determinó en la Sección C). Summary and Scope of Analysis For more than 20 years, QualityLogic Inc. has been a premier developer and provider of essential testing solutions to companies that design, build, or purchase printers and printing technology. Our products and services help our customers understand how the products they make or buy conform to specifications, or compare to reference implementations or competing products. We are active members of international standards organizations including ISO and Ecma International, and provide testing assistance to leading technology publications who publish printer reviews. At the request of Eastman Kodak Company, QualityLogic calculated and compared the Cost of Ink Per Page (CoIPP) of the EASYSHARE 5100, 5300 5500, ESP-3 and ESP-5 All-in-One Printers to competing printers selected by Kodak. Kodak s intent was to select printers with significant market share from leading manufacturers. Monochrome and color cartridge yields for all printers were determined following ISO yield standards, and photo yields were determined using QualityLogic s photo yield methodology*. Ink prices from for printers in the test were provided to QualityLogic by Kodak** and are based on the manufacturer s suggested retail price (MSRP) for each of the cartridges in each of the countries in this test. For this report, only standard as-shipped-in-box cartridges or the standard-yield ink cartridges in single quantity pricing (i.e., no multi-packs, high yield, combo packs, value packs or special promotions) were evaluated for the purpose of making like-basis comparisons between all printers. Although there are many factors in total cost of ownership, Cost of Ink Per Page (CoIPP) is an important factor when evaluating total cost of ownership with printer systems. Methodology for Calculation of Cost of Ink Per Page The following is a step-by-step outline of how QualityLogic, using standardized yield testing methodologies and standard pricing information provided by Kodak, executed this Cost of Ink Per Page test for Kodak. A. QualityLogic Yield Declarations Yield testing is a process by which the target printers are operated with their ink or toner cartridges to exhaust the amount of ink/toner, and then pages printed are counted to determine the number of pages each cartridge yields. The requirements and operating conditions of such testing are determined by a standard set of testing criteria that will provide an objective and repeatable result. QualityLogic is a leader worldwide in providing yield testing services. We support and follow the ISO (International Standards Organization) standards for mono and color testing. Use of using the ISO standards for yield testing is also supported by leading manufacturers, including Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, IBM, Kodak, Lexmark, Oki Data, Pitney Bowes, Ricoh, Toshiba, Xerox, and others. ISO is currently working on a standard for photo ink. Until this standard is released, QualityLogic uses a methodology we developed that closely follows the current ISO standards approach. Key provisions of these standards include: Standard test suites Minimum of nine cartridges across three printers representative of products in open market Clear, objective end-of-life criteria Controlled test environment temperature, humidity, continuous printing Yield reporting requirement well defined The following pages contain tables that relate to yield testing results. The tables show the number of pages per cartridge that can be expected with 90 percent confidence based on our testing. Numbers in black indicate primary cartridges any cartridge where a minimum of nine cartridges across three printers could be exhausted. Supplemental cartridges are indicated by red numbers and represent those cartridges that are secondary to the purpose of the test. Although supplemental cartridges are not the key focus in the tests as shown, they are included in the test reports to ensure we get a complete understanding of the ink being used. 59

Generally, the primary cartridges for each category of testing are: Mono ink the black cartridge Color ink all full density cartridges containing cyan, magenta, or yellow Photo ink color cartridges or others where nine cartridges were exhausted QualityLogic performed yield tests and provided yield test reports for all cartridges for models listed below (with some of the same models also available in Europe and in North America). Each table has abbreviated sub-headings that represent the specific ink cartridge types as follows: CMY = A single cartridge containing cyan, magenta and yellow * C = Cyan M = Magenta Y = Yellow K1 = Black K2 = A second black cartridge LC = Light cyan LM = Light magenta These yield numbers apply to all printers included in this analysis, and are the same regardless of country.
