MESSAGE FROM FR. KUROLY I grew up understanding that May and October were months dedicated to Mary. Each Spring we had our May Crowning at my grammar school. It was a big deal as we all got to ditch our plain school uniform and wear our Sunday finest. I still remember the long procession as 300 of us or so made our way around the block. Each class was led by the eighth grade girls who always looked like princesses and carried fragrant flowers that would adorn our Lady in the church. Understanding those two months of May and October were Mary s Months. Yet when I entered the seminary and studied Theology, I learned that Mary had her own liturgical season on the church calendar the Season of Advent. First of all, Advent has two beautiful Marian feasts which we celebrate this week. On December 8 th, we recall the beginning of Mary s life in the womb of St. Anne. Mary was free from sin because later on she herself would conceive the Sinless One who washed away our sins in his own blood. On December 12 all of us in the Americas look to Guadalupe Mexico where Mary revealed herself to the poor Juan Diego who represents each one of us in our various ways; she never forgets about us. More importantly, Mary is the perfect example of welcoming God s presence completely. Throughout her life she was ever attentive of her Son, pondering what His life and ministry meant for herself and for the world. Of course His Incarnation, which Advent prepares us to recall, is the ultimate way which humanity can welcome the divine. This week we will have Mass on Tuesday in celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception with Mass at 9:30am followed by Breakfast at Epiphany. (Mass will also be celebrated at 7:00pm at Saints Peter and Paul.) Beginning Wednesday we will be having our Triduum in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This will take place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the 7:00pm Mass at Saints Peter and Paul. Then on Saturday at 7:00pm at Saint Peter and Paul we will celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. Attending these days might be a great way to start celebrating this Marian Season. Hope to see you during the week! Fr. Kuroly MENSAJE DEL PADRE KUROLY Crecí entendiendo que mayo y octubre son meses dedicados a María. Cada primavera teníamos la Coronación de Mayo en mi escuela primaria. Era un gran acontecimiento, todos teníamos que abandonar nuestra simple uniforme escolar y ponernos nuestra vestimenta elegante de domingo. Todavía recuerdo la larga procesión, alrededor de 300 de nosotros hicieron el camino alrededor del bloque. Cada clase era encabezada por las chicas de octavo grado que siempre parecían princesas y que llevaban flores fragantes para adornar la Virgen en la Iglesia. Comprendíamos que estos dos meses de mayo y octubre eran los "Meses de María." Sin embargo, cuando entré en el Seminario y estudié Teología, me enteré de que María tenía su propio tiempo litúrgico en el calendario de la Iglesia - el tiempo de Adviento. (La Misa también se celebrará a las 7:00 pm en San Pedro y San Pablo.) A partir del miércoles vamos a comenzar nuestro Triduo en honor de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Esto se llevará a cabo el miércoles, jueves y viernes durante la Misa 7:00 pm en San Pedro y San Pablo. Luego, el sábado a las 7:00 pm en San Pedro y San Pablo celebraremos Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Asistir estos días puede ser una gran manera de empezar a celebrar este tiempo mariano. Parish News & Announcements We will be selling chocolates after Mass, this is to help our youth going to World Youth Day 2016 to pray with Pope Francis during the month of July. Please support our youth! Special thanks to all the youth who attended this past Saturdays Advent retreat. Thank you to Sister Peace who helped organize the day along with the many volunteers and helpers. December 8th is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Mass will be celebrated at the usual time: 9:30am at Epiphany and 7:00pm at Saints Peter and Paul to celebrate the patronal feast of the Diocese of Brooklyn and the United States, breakfast will follow the 9:30am Mass. Wednesday, December, 9th begins the Advent /Our Lady of Guadalupe Triddum and parish mission. This will take place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during 7:00pm at Saints Peter and Paul. There will be confessions available during Mass on Thursday and Friday. Saturday December 12th is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The celebration begins with Mañanitas in the church at 5:30am followed by breakfast. Mass will be celebrated at 7:00pm at Saints Peter and Paul. December 13th is the parish Christmas Party, the Christmas play and the lighting of the Christmas tree. We will begin our festivities with the 11:30am Mass followed by lunch. Please join us as we celebrate Christmas as a family December 20th will be having the Advent Morning Prayer in English. The day will begin with the 9:00am Mass followed by breakfast, a talk and discussion. The morning will be led by Deacon Franco newly Ordained Deacon from our Lady of Mount Carmel. All Young Adults are invited to join us every Mondays during advent begining November 30th at 7:00 pm at Saints Peter and Paul Rectory.
