3 A Message from the President of Your Senior Advisory Council, Ada Heredia Un Mensaje del Presidente de Su Consejo Asesorador Principal, Ada Heredia Hello Everyone, Fall is just around the corner and Hudson Guild Center is ready for it. This Fall lots of exciting things will be here just like the Summer, Hudson Guild really kept us all busy. I want to remind you again to get the Sundial once a month to keep you informed of the coming activities we are getting ready for the fall. Also, the Senior Advisory Council will have it's monthly meetings and we hope that you will also attend with us to share your ideas, remember, "speaking up is a way of letting us know how you feel about Hudson Guild Center." And, you can start doing that by participating when the Senior Advisory Council has its monthly meeting at the 3rd Wednesday of the month when we also celebrate birthdays, this is where you start voicing to all how you and others feel and how all the staff can help make our center better. As the Summer ends and was wonderful, lets hope that the fall will be the same full of activities that helps us keep mentally and physically well and especially healthy. Participants will bring in a different object each workshop, and through the act of sharing, will tell their life narrative. Additionally, you will learn more about each other and have the opportunity to reflect and share. Mondays,11:00-12:00: News on the Net with Daniel. Use the internet to stay informed about current events and understand how news websites and search engines can help you find information on specific topics of interest. Discuss the issues while determining the opinion of each article. Fridays, 9:45-11:30: Caregivers Workshop with Luis. In this parenting skills workshop series you will learn about such topics as adult/child communication, an overview of child/adolescent development, an overview of human sexuality, and of course any other topics that you would like to address! Once registered, you ll receive your temporary membership card & barcoded keytag; your laminated membership card will be available at Fulton Reception about 2 weeks later. 6 Dear Friends and Neighbors: The seasons are finally changing, and we have some big changes to announce at the NORC. First, we are pleased to WELCOME OUR NEW SOCIAL WORK INTERNS Shirley Shi, Rebecca Utkin, and Andrea Cannalunga. We re also very happy to welcome Kenny Chubinsky, who is our new part-time administrative clerk. Kenny and Quanisha will be in the NORC every weekday, and are looking forward to greeting you when you come in to the NORC office. Our CARELINK PROGRAM has already started! 8 My name is Daniel Gonzalez and I am the new Social Work Intern here at the Hudson Guild. I will be working directly under the Deputy Executive Director Miguel Pedraza- Cumba, but will be located at the Fulton Center from 9:00AM-4:00PM Mondays and Wednesdays, and will be helping out with various programs around Fulton. I am a first year Master's in Social Work student at Long Island University Brooklyn Campus and will be running a group on Monday to help participants learn how to use technology to stay up to date on current events. Please feel free to say hello if you see me around the center and visit me in the reception office during my hours. I am very much looking forward to beginning my work here and getting to know you all. Hi, I'm Carley Colbert, the new Social Work Intern in Adult Services. I am currently a student at Columbia University School of Social and have just entered my second and final year of study. I will be here on Mondays (9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.), Wednesdays (9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.) and s (9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.). I will be at Fulton s NSC Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 8:30a.m.-4:30p.m. I am very excited to meet each one of you and assist you with anything that concerns you. Please join social services in welcoming Julia Koo as a Case Manager in our Social Services Unit who will focus particularly on serving our Chinese population. Julia comes to us having formerly worked as an Early Intervention Service Coordinator with children and their families at University Settlement.
