3 My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, 4 de Octubre del Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario...message from Msgr. Calling all Peruvians! Really everyone with a devotion to the Lord of the Miracles. As we look forward to our annual Mass in honor of the Lord of the Miracles we are ready this year to include the procession following Mass and are happy to have Fr. Jean Pierre Teullet back again with us for the celebration. The Lord of the Miracles is the devotion centered around the image of our crucified Lord painted on the wall of a hut near Lima. The image stayed on the wall despite several attempts to erase it. As a result of this and miraculous interventions experienced by those who prayed at the wall devotion to the image rose until it became what is today the most widely venerated image in the city of Lima. The heart of the celebration is one of the largest processions to take place every year in the Americas, where tens of thousands of the faithful dress in purple tunics, singing hymns and praying as they accompany the image. We will join the procession next Sunday. On Sunday, October 11 th, at 1:30 pm we will celebrate the Mass in honor of the Lord of the Miracles. We will have our Peruvian brothers and sisters from around the Archdiocese with us and we invite all members of the Hermandad who have their habits to wear them for that Mass and to join us in the procession that follows Mass. The Our Lady of Lourdes Hermandad will join their Emmaus brothers and sisters in offering breakfast and lunch that day in the parish hall. I invite you to join us for a spirit-filled celebration. Finally, I invite you to take advantage of our Chapel of the Lord of the Miracles. The chapel is open throughout the day and when closed one can visit from the bench outside the main window. This chapel, together with the Adoration Chapel and the Grotto, makes Our Lady of Lourdes a place of intimate prayer, petition, and conversion all day, every day. God bless, Msgr. Schwanger Mi Querida Familia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes,...mensaje de Mons. Haciendo un llamando a todos los Peruanos! - Realmente a todos con una devoción al Señor de los Milagros. Mientras esperamos nuestra Misa anual en honor del Señor de los Milagros, estamos listos este año para incluir la procesión después de la Misa y estamos felices de tener al P. Jean Pierre Teullet de nuevo con nosotros para la celebración. El Señor de los Milagros es una devoción a la imagen de Nuestro Señor crucificado pintada en la pared de una choza cerca de Lima. La imagen permaneció en la pared a pesar de varios intentos de borrarla. Como resultado de esto y las intervenciones milagrosas experimentadas por los que rezaban a la pared con la imagen, la devoción aumentó hasta convertirse en lo que es hoy la imagen más venerada en la ciudad de Lima. El corazón de la celebración es una de las procesiones más grandes que tienen lugar cada año en las Américas, donde decenas de miles de fieles vestidos con túnicas moradas, cantando himnos rezan acompañando a la imagen. Nos uniremos a la procesión el próximo domingo, 11 de octubre a la 1:30 pm cuando vamos a celebrar la Misa en honor del Señor de los Milagros. Tendremos a nuestros hermanos peruanos de toda la Arquidiócesis de Miami con nosotros e invitamos a todos los miembros de la Hermandad que tienen sus hábitos a usarlos para la Misa y unirse a nosotros en la procesión que le sigue. La Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes se une a sus hermanos y hermanas de Emaús ofreciendo desayuno y almuerzo ese día en el salón parroquial. Los invito a unirse a nosotros para una celebración llena de vida. Por último, los invito a aprovechar nuestra Capilla del Señor de los Milagros. La capilla está abierta durante todo el día y cuando está cerrada se puede venerar desde el banco afuera de la ventana principal. Esta capilla, junto a la capilla de Adoración al Santísimo y la Gruta, hace de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes un lugar de oración íntima, petición, y conversión - todo el día, todos los días. For the next twelve sessions, Why Catholic? will explore what we believe as Catholics (The Creed). Our parish English language group meets in the School s Teacher s Lounge on Wednesdays from 8:15 PM until 9:45 PM. All members of Our Lady of Lourdes are welcome to participate in Why Catholic?. Please feel free to drop by any Wednesday evening to explore this program for yourself. If you then decide to participate in Why Catholic? in an on-going way, we will ask you to register for these sessions. The sessions have already started and will conclude on December 9. In January, we will begin our prayerful reflections on the Sacraments. Having played and coached basketball in college, she got a job teaching and coaching at a large public high school in San Antonio, Texas. The more she worked with her students and players in the classroom and on the court, the more she recognized the deep hunger they had in their hearts for God. Although the coaching and teaching were fulfilling, she began to realize that God was inviting her to something more. She found that "something more" with the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. Since entering the convent 25 years ago, Sister Margaret Ann has continued to serve in education as both a teacher and principal while earning another master s in moral theology and a certificate in Catholic school administration. Even more important than her degrees and her experience, Sister Margaret Ann has a heart for the young people she serves. Her face lights up as she talks about the joy of helping young people be who God made them to be, and helping them succeed on every level. Be sure to give a warm welcome to Sr. Margaret as well as all the other wonderful Carmelite Sisters that we are blessed to have enrich the lives of our children and our own. 10 October 4th, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Just One Hour In 1830, at the Daughters of Charity Convent on Rue de Back, Paris, Our Lady appeared to St Catherine Labouré. Over the course of several apparitions which always occurred near the site of the Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady gave the following message to the world: Come to the foot of the altar. Here graces will be showered on all, great and small, who ask for them. Our Lady always leads us to adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Now is the time to follow our Mother through Perpetual Adoration of her Son. Adorando a Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento Sólo una Hora En 1830, en el Convento de las Hijas de la Caridad en Rue de Back, Paris, Nuestra Señora apareció a Sta. Caterina Labouré. Durante el curso de varias apariciones que siempre ocurrían cerca del lugar donde se encontraba el Santísimo Sacramento, Nuestra Señora dio el siguiente mensaje al mundo: Vengan al pie del altar. Holiness is as simple as having a warm supper awaiting those who are coming home at night, or a hug bestowed after a hard day s work. This was part of Pope Francis message the afternoon he celebrated the closing Mass of the World Meeting of Families. "Like happiness, holiness is always tied to little gestures," he said, drawing from Christ s affirmation that even a cup of cold water given in his name would not go unrewarded. "These little gestures are those we learn at home, in the family; they get lost amid all the other things we do, yet they do make each day different," the Pope said. "They are the quiet things done by mothers and grandmothers, by fathers and grandfathers, by children, by siblings. They are little signs of tenderness, affection and compassion. Like the warm supper we look forward to at night, the early lunch awaiting someone who gets up early to go to work. Homely gestures. Like a blessing before we go to bed or a hug after we return from a hard day s work. Love is shown by little things, by attention to small daily signs which make us feel at home. Faith grows when it is lived and shaped by love. That is why our families, our homes, are true domestic churches. They are the right place for faith to become life, and life to grow in faith." The Holy Father said these things are "little miracles" and Jesus asks us to go through our everyday life "encouraging all these little signs of love as signs of his own living and active presence in our world."
