4 As One, Doing God s Work Forming Future Priests! Seminarian John Ngo St. Patrick s Seminary & University, Menlo Park My vocation to the priesthood can be described in two words: listening and responding. Listening to God s call means that I need to respond to God faithfully. Over time, the definition of success has changed for John Ngo. When John was younger, he thought success was largely measured by the level of education attained, prominence of the college one attends which eventually would lead to a high paying job. However, when he received news about the unexpected death of his grandmother caused by a drunk driver, John s world was turned upside down. John s grandmother was his main influence to build his faith. Since my grandmother passed away, my life and my thoughts have changed totally and completely. Instead of complaining and being upset, I went to church frequently trying to pray and understand why God took away my loved one. The death of my grandmother helped me understand that our lives are so short-lived and temporary. The most important thing is the eternal life with God in heaven. Priestly formation is vital to the future of the Church. Your gift to the Bishop s Ministry Appeal Trust unites us As One in prayer and financial support which allows John Ngo and other seminarians to concentrate on their studies in spiritual and academic disciplines as they are called to religious leadership.

5 As One, Doing God s Work Inspiring Catechists! Catechist Judith Ann Crary St. Anne s Church, Lodi As soon as Judith Crary was confirmed through the RCIA program in 2003 along with her husband and son, she was asked to participate as a catechist. I love being a catechist because the basics of our faith, the foundations of everyone s faith, are given to the church of our future. Judith keeps a prayer jar, filled with the names of the children in her classes, in her home so she may continue to pray and lift them up to the Lord long after class is over. I see in each of the children the future Body of Christ. They are the continuation of his promises. They are the Catholic church of the future. If I can be, even just, a small part in how they come to know him and learn to love him I feel very blessed. Your gift to the Bishop s Ministry Appeal Trust supports faith formation ministries and makes religious education classes possible for the benefit of people like Judith Ann Crary and the children and families who are served by Religious Education and Training. As One we teach an estimated 18,000 children who are enrolled in religious education/faith formation programs each year throughout the diocese.

INSPIRANDO A FUTUROS SACERDOTES Seminarista John Ngo Seminario y Universidad San Patricio, Menlo Park Mi vocación al sacerdocio se puede describir en dos palabras: escuchar y responder. Escuchando la llamada de Dios significa que tengo que responder a Dios con fidelidad. Con el tiempo, la definición de éxito ha cambiado para John Ngo. Cuando John era joven, pensó que el éxito se media en gran parte por el nivel de educación alcanzado, la reputación de la universidad que se atiende la cual eventualmente llevaría a trabajo bien pagado. Sin embargo, cuando recibió la noticia de la muerte inesperada de su abuela causado por un conductor ebrio, el mundo de John se volvió al revés. La abuela de John fue su principal influencia para construir su fe. Desde que mi abuela falleció, mi vida y mis pensamientos han cambiado total y completamente. En lugar de quejarme y estar molesto, fui a la iglesia con frecuencia tratando de orar y entender por qué Dios se llevó a mi ser querido. La muerte de mi abuela me ayudó a comprender que nuestras vidas son tan efímeras y temporales. Lo más importante es la vida eterna con Dios en el cielo. La formación sacerdotal es vital para el futuro de la Iglesia. Su donación al Fideicomiso de la solicitud Ministerial del Obispo nos une en oración y en el apoyo financiero que permite a John Ngo y otros seminaristas a concentrar en sus estudios en las disciplinas espirituales y académicas como se les llama a los líderes religiosos. INSPIRANDO A CATEQUISTAS Catequista Judith Ann Crary Iglesia de St. Anne, Lodi Tan pronto como Judith Crary fue confirmada a través del programa de RICA en el 2003 junto con su esposo e hijo, se le pidió participar como catequista. Me encanta ser catequista, porque los fundamentos de nuestra fe, los fundamentos de la fe de cada uno, se le dan a la iglesia del futuro. Judith mantiene una jarra de oración en su casa, llena con los nombres de los niños en sus clases, para que ella pueda seguir orando y elevarlos al Señor después de que la clase ha terminado. Veo en cada uno de los niños el futuro Cuerpo de Cristo. Ellos son la continuación de sus promesas. Ellos son la iglesia Católica del futuro. Si puedo ser, aunque sea una pequeña parte, en la forma en que aprenden a conocerlo y aprenden a amarlo me siento muy bendecida. Once your parish reaches its collected goal, 100% of all funds over the parish goal are returned to the parish from the Bishop s Ministry Appeal Trust. BISHOP S MINISTRY APPEAL TRUST A trust with its own bank account has been created for the sole benefit of the ministries, separate and apart from the assets of the Diocese, for the receipt and administration of these funds. Ways to Give Gifts by Check Checks should be made payable to the Bishop s Ministry Appeal Trust. Please mail your check in the pledge response envelope. Please make sure your parish name is written on the memo section of your check. Simply provide your credit card details on your pledge envelope. Pledge your gift over eight months Your gift to the Bishop s Ministry Appeal may be paid over eight months. Please provide your first month s payment when you mail your pledge in the pledge response envelope. Your pledge payments can be made with a recurring credit card charge or we can send you a monthly statement for payment by check or credit card.
