3 Page 3 Immaculate Heart of Mary July 12, 2015 Recibe la compasión de Jesús y pásala adelante. En el evangelio de hoy vemos el corazón de pastor en Jesús. Sus discípulos acaban de regresar entusiasmados de su primera misión. Le cuenta lo que hicieron y enseñaron, pues la Buena Nueva es palabra y obra, anuncio y acción. Jesús se revela como un buen maestro y un buen padre. Prepara e sus discípulos o hijos para una tarea y los envía a practicar, para que maduren. Cuando regresan los escucha para reconocer lo que hicieron, pero sabe que eso no es todo; también tiene que cuidar de ellos y los invita: Vengan ustedes solos a un lugar deshabitado, para descansar un poco. No es solo una invitación a estar a solas con él, sino a dejarse guiar por él, a estar con Jesús como discípulos en medio de la misión. Quiere que se apoyen en él, que descansen con él, pues la misión es exigente. La imagen de pastor tenía una resonancia fuerte en los contemporáneos de Jesús, que descubren en el al pastor verdadero anunciado por los profetas. La actitud de Jesús ante el gentío es de compasión. Jesús ve las necesidades y las razones de fondo por las que la gente lo busca y reacciona desde el fondo de su corazón. Compasión quiere decir padecer junto con el otro y actuar, es una disposición del corazón que nace del amor y la misericordia de Dios. No es una decisión de liberarnos de aquello que nos oprime y darnos vida en abundancia. Por eso escogió Jesus a sus discípulos los capacito y envió a predicar y hacer signos de la llegada del Reino, convirtiéndolos en apóstoles y formándolos como pastores. En este sentido cuando hablamos de apostolado laico, movimientos apostólicos, vida apostólica nos referimos a esta dinámica cíclica: ser enviados por Jesús a extender su reino; regresar a contarle como nos fue y recibir nuevas fuerzas y enseñanzas para ser envidados de nuevo a continuar su misión. Cuando fue la última vez que tuvieses un tiempo a solas con el Señor?

A cada parroquia, centro, y comunidad religiosa encabezada por pastores o administradores, sacerdotes, diáconos, y religiosos se les pide llevar una delegación, y cada delegación es animada a traer una bandera que identifique a su parroquia, así como identificar a un líder que lleve la bandera en la procesión. También se les anima a las parroquias a que organicen un autobús para llevar a su delegación al evento, y de considerar el tren (Metrolink o Amtrak) como una alternativa. This year the Columban Family, Fathers, Sisters and Lay Missionaries are celebrating the 1400 years of Saint Columban, a great Irish Missionary. With great hope they are continuing and following the footsteps of Saint Columban to preach the gospel with zeal. Sr. Carmen will speak to our parish family during the celebration of the Eucharist for our mission appeal under the 2015 Missionary Co-operative Plan for the Diocese of Orange. She served for many years in Chile and currently based in Los Angeles, California. The Columban Sisters are dedicated to the missionary activity of the Church in Chile, China/Hong Kong, Korea, Pakistan, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines and Peru as well as home regions of Ireland, Great Britain and the United States. Your prayerful and financial support will enable them to continue the Church s work of Evangelization with those to whom they are sent. Please keep the Sisters and their work in your prayers. The prophets had arisen, originally, to act as God s voice when Israel was no longer led by the spiritual/civil figures known as judges, but by monarchs. Over time, the monarchy had appropriated the offices of priest and prophet, established them into companies, and reserved the right to appoint courtly prophets. Then, as now, when those in power also got to choose who would act as their official conscience, things sometimes went awry. At such times, God raised up prophets from unlikely places, and this is how Amos received his vocation as prophet. In last week s Gospel we heard how Jesus was raised up as God s anointed from a place many viewed as unlikely. As we continue to discern our own vocation as baptized disciples, we can be assured that we are, in Paul s words, chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will (Ephesians 1:11). 6 Page 6 Immaculate Heart of Mary July 12, 2015 Rev.Marco Hernandez Quintanilla,OFM as our new Vicar and Sr. ThuLieu Nguyen, Vietnamese Faith Formation TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Many marriage customs stand in tension with modern American attitudes and values, notably giving away the bride, which is no longer in the Catholic liturgy, and reminds us of a time when marriage was a contract between men (the groom and the bride s father). A Mexican custom, now approved for use in the United States, has a very different message. An ancient Roman custom called for smashing pieces of gold and silver so that bride and groom could each keep half. This is the origin of today s Mexican practice of the groom giving thirteen gold coins to the bride, symbolically placing all his worldly goods into her care, and a sign of his unconditional trust. The coins are often given in beautiful gift boxes and are retained as an heirloom. Why thirteen? The standard explanation is that they represent Jesus and the apostles. The priest blesses the coins and pours them into the bride s cupped hands. Then she entrusts them to the groom, who later pours them back into her hands. This enduring ritual is in such harmony with our tradition s view of marriage that it is now increasingly performed by Englishspeaking Hispanic Catholics at weddings in the United States. Rev.
