3 Presentación Welcome Caxton College es un colegio privado y mixto que ofrece un proyecto educativo integral a niños y adolescentes desde 1 a 18 años. Fue fundado en 1987 por la familia Gil Marqués para dotar a Valencia de un centro donde los alumnos valencianos y extranjeros pudieran formarse en un entorno internacional siguiendo el Currículo Británico. El resultado es una combinación única que no se encuentra en otra parte. Caxton College is a private co-educational school that offers a complete education to students between 1 and 18 years of age. It was founded in 1987 by the Gil Marqués family, and provides Valencia with a school for both local and international children who want to study the British National Curriculum in a multicultural environment. The school s philosophy is based on the principles of democracy and pluralism, and pupils may also choose to receive religious instruction. Combining both British and Spanish cultures with other languages taught (German, French, Valencian) encourages students to be more open to other cultures, religions, races, languages and values, in addition to helping prepare them for future professions in the worldwide market. Pupils learn about Spanish and British customs in depth, providing a British education within a Mediterranean lifestyle, a unique combination that cannot be found elsewhere. 4 5

5 Educación Infantil Playgroup and Primary Early Years PLAYGROUP DE 1 A 2 AÑOS El área de Educación Infantil ha sido diseñada pensando en el entorno ideal en el que los más pequeños han de crecer y desarrollar sus habilidades y su creatividad. Caxton College garantiza la máxima seguridad de sus hijos. El objetivo en esta etapa es el afianzamiento del español como lengua materna y la iniciación en el inglés como segunda lengua. FOUNDATION STAGE: NURSERY Y RECEPTION DE 3 A 4 AÑOS Los alumnos de Nursery y Reception siguen un método de inmersión lingüística por el que se ven rodeados de un ambiente británico que les permitirá desarrollar la segunda lengua. En esta etapa empiezan a seguir el Currículo Nacional Británico. Los especialistas han demostrado que el bilingüismo, desde una edad temprana, ofrece a los niños grandes ventajas y aporta múltiples beneficios al desarrollo intelectual. El aprendizaje de un segundo idioma resulta tan natural como el juego mismo. PLAYGROUP 1 TO 2 YEARS OF AGE The Playgroup area has been designed to provide the ideal environment for the youngest pupils, enabling them to grow and develop in a creative, safe and stimulating environment. The aim is to develop their mother tongue, Spanish, whilst introducing English as the second language. PRIMARY EARLY YEARS: NURSERY & RECEPTION 3 TO 4 YEARS OF AGE Nursery and Reception pupils are immersed in English and follow the British National Curriculum. The children are surrounded by an English speaking environment which allows them to develop their second language. Research has shown that bilingualism from an early age offers children a wealth of advantages as well as contributing to their intellectual ability. At this age, the acquisition of a second language comes as naturally as play. 8 9

6 Educación Primaria Primary DE YEAR 1 A YEAR 6 DE 5 A 10 AÑOS En esta etapa educativa se utiliza la emoción como herramienta de aprendizaje, ya que siempre se recuerda lo que se siente. Se aspira a que los alumnos sean personas felices, cívicas y responsables; para ello se trabajan las habilidades intelectuales y físicas a la vez que las emocionales y sociales. Las diferentes áreas curriculares se imparten en inglés, siguiendo el sistema educativo británico, con la excepción de Lengua y Cultura Española. Las asignaturas de Educación Física, Música, Lengua y Cultura Española, Lengua Valenciana y Religión / Ética son impartidas por profesores especialistas. YEAR 1 TO YEAR 6 5 TO 10 YEARS OF AGE Year 1 to 6 pupils continue their learning journey and have access to fun learning experiences across all curriculum areas. The aim is for pupils at Caxton College to be happy, responsible and caring citizens. They are not only encouraged to achieve their full academic potential, but an emphasis is also placed on the social and emotional aspects of learning, thus developing the whole child. All areas of the curriculum are taught in English following the British National Curriculum, with the exception of Spanish Language and Culture. Physical Education, Music, Spanish Language and Culture, Valencian Language and Religion / Ethics are taught by specialist teachers. Mediterranean Lifestyle 10 11

7 Educación Secundaria Secondary DE YEAR 7 A YEAR 11 DE 11 A 16 AÑOS El colegio ofrece al alumno un abanico de asignaturas muy amplio para que adquiera una formación completa. Durante este ciclo, tanto profesores como tutores trabajan muy de cerca para conseguir que los adolescentes adquieran buenas técnicas de estudio, se responsabilicen de sus actos y decisiones, desarrollen actitudes sanas ante la vida y usen su tiempo libre adecuadamente. Caxton College organiza numerosas actividades para reforzar los conocimientos adquiridos en clase y también se llevan a cabo intercambios con otros colegios de Inglaterra y Alemania. Además, participa en competiciones externas como el UK Maths Challenge. Al finalizar esta etapa, los alumnos se presentan a los exámenes oficiales externos procedentes de Inglaterra, con los cuales obtendrán el Certificado General de Educación Secundaria. YEAR 7 TO YEAR TO 16 YEARS OF AGE The aim is to offer pupils a wide range of subjects so that they receive a broad and balanced education. In Secondary, both subject teachers and tutors are involved in the educational process in order to ensure that pupils acquire good study skills, are responsible for their actions and decisions, develop healthy attitudes towards life and manage time appropriately. Caxton College organises a wide range of activities to reinforce the knowledge acquired in class. The school also arranges exchange programmes with other schools in the UK and Germany. In addition, students participate in external competitions, such as the UK Maths Challenge. At the end of this period students take official external examinations with UK examination boards in order to obtain their IGCSE certificates (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) or equivalent. El colegio sigue el programa de Bachillerato británico de preparación a los exámenes A Level. Estos estudios exigen que los alumnos asuman una mayor responsabilidad en su aprendizaje, además de permitir un mayor grado de especialización. Los alumnos obtienen muy buenos resultados, lo que les permite estudiar las carreras universitarias de su elección. Hoy en día hay exalumnos de Caxton College estudiando en universidades de otros países, como por ejemplo: Imperial College of London, University College London (UCL) y Otto von Guerike Universität Magdeburg. Durante esta etapa de Bachillerato se pretende que los alumnos demuestren un grado positivo de madurez, necesario para una óptima convivencia e integración social, así como para alcanzar las calificaciones necesarias para sus estudios futuros. Los estudiantes de Bachillerato juegan un papel muy importante en el Consejo Escolar y se espera que sean responsables en otras áreas del colegio no estrictamente académicas. El Departamento de Orientación Vocacional apoya y guía a los alumnos durante todo este ciclo, con el fin de garantizar una óptima transición a la universidad. YEAR 12 AND YEAR AND 18 YEARS OF AGE To enter the Sixth Form, pupils must pass a minimum number of subjects at IGCSE or equivalent in order to follow a British A Level programme. These studies require pupils to take greater responsibility for their own learning whilst introducing specialisation of study. The pupils obtain excellent results enabling them to take university degrees in their chosen subjects. At present Caxton College has ex pupils studying at many different universities in other countries, such as Imperial College of London, University College London (UCL) and Otto von Guerike Universität Magdeburg. During the Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to demonstrate a mature attitude, necessary for good relations in the school and for social integration, in addition to obtaining the academic results required for further study. Sixth Form pupils play a significant role in the Student Council and are expected to take responsibility in areas other than the purely academic. The Careers Department provides Sixth Form pupils with considerable support and guidance during these two years in order to guarantee a smooth transition to university studies

10 Centro de Estudios Internacional Caxton Caxton International Study Centre (CISC) Caxton College ha desarrollado un programa para alumnos de Secundaria dirigido a mejorar el nivel de inglés y español y a profundizar en materias del Currículo Británico. Los estudiantes disfrutan así de una experiencia internacional desde un trimestre hasta un curso académico completo y si lo desean, posteriormente pueden incorporarse al sistema educativo británico. Caxton College has developed a programme for secondary aged pupils who wish to improve their language skills in both English and Spanish, as well as to study British curriculum subjects. Students can enjoy an international experience from one term to a full academic year, with the option to later integrate into the British educational system. Caxton International Study Centre 18 19

11 Admisiones Admissions ADMISIÓN DE NIÑOS DE 1 A 3 AÑOS Se recomienda que los padres soliciten plaza con la mayor antelación posible para incorporar a sus hijos a la escuela infantil. Los niños son admitidos a partir de un año y la disponibilidad de plazas en Nursery (3 años) dependerá del número de alumnos matriculados anteriormente en Playgroup (1 y 2 años). ADMISIÓN DE ALUMNOS EN OTROS CICLOS El alumno con nivel de inglés deberá hacer las pruebas de admisión propias del colegio para evaluar el nivel académico. Si el alumno es de Primaria y no tiene suficiente nivel de inglés, hará otro tipo de pruebas específicas para determinar si puede adaptarse al colegio siguiendo un programa especial. Si es de Secundaria, se determinará si puede incorporarse al Centro de Estudios Internacional Caxton, que le preparará para acceder al sistema británico al comienzo del siguiente año académico. ADMISSION OF PUPILS FROM 1 TO 3 YEARS OF AGE It is recommended that parents apply for places as soon as possible in Playgroup and Primary Early Years. Pupils are admitted from 1 year of age, and place availability for pupils aged 3 will depend on the number of pupils already enrolled in Playgroup (aged 1 and 2). ADMISSION OF PUPILS IN OTHER YEAR GROUPS Pupils who have a sufficient level of the English language will take the school s admission tests to assess their academic ability. If pupils applying for a place in Primary do not have the adequate level of English, they will sit specific tests to determine if they can follow a Language Support programme to become fully integrated. In Secondary, these students may be offered the option to enrol in the Caxton International Study Centre which prepares them for joining the mainstream curriculum the following year

12 Vivir con una familia española Living with a Spanish Family El colegio ofrece, para alumnos a partir de 11 años, la opción de internado en familia de acogida con una duración desde un mes hasta un año académico completo. Caxton College selecciona las familias cuidadosamente, confiándoles el bienestar de los alumnos. Vivir con una familia permite a los alumnos practicar español y conocer la cultura y el estilo de vida del país. Es una experiencia única y enriquecedora. The school offers pupils from 11 years of age the option to board with a host family from one month to a full academic year, providing them with a unique and enriching experience. The school carefully selects the host families, entrusting them with the well-being of the students. Living with a family offers the opportunity to practise Spanish and to learn more about the Spanish culture and lifestyle

13 Cursos de verano de inglés o español Julio y agosto Summer School in English or Spanish July and August Los cursos de verano de inglés o español son una divertida manera de aprovechar las vacaciones. Estos cursos combinan las clases de idiomas con talleres lúdicos, artísticos y deportivos como: baile moderno, flamenco, kárate, bádminton y cocina. Los cursos tienen tres modalidades: - Alumnos externos (de 2 a 18 años). - Alumnos internos que se alojan en familia de acogida (de 8 a 18 años). - Alumnos internos que viajan en grupo y se alojan en residencia de estudiantes (de 8 a 18 años). La duración recomendada de los cursos es de un mes, aunque existe la posibilidad de realizarlos desde dos semanas hasta dos meses. El programa para los alumnos internos incluye actividades los fines de semana. The Caxton College English or Spanish Summer School courses are a fun way to make the most of the holidays. These courses combine language lessons with fun, artistic and sporting workshops such as modern dance, flamenco dance, karate, badminton and cookery. Pupils can join these courses in one of three ways: - as day pupils (from 2 to 18 years of age). - as boarding pupils with accommodation provided in a host family (from 8 to 18 years of age). - as boarding pupils who travel as a group with accommodation provided in a student residence (from 8 to 18 years of age). The recommended length of these courses is one month, although stays of two weeks to two months are available. The programme for boarding pupils includes weekend activities

Los alumnos disfrutan de las más completas instalaciones y equipamientos académicos y deportivos. Las aulas están dotadas de ordenadores y pizarras interactivas. El centro cuenta con laboratorios de ciencias altamente equipados, aulas de arte, de cocina y de música, salas de informática y medios audiovisuales, una extensa biblioteca, un amplio salón de actos y una capilla. An excellent education needs excellent surroundings, and Caxton College is an excellent environment in which to learn. Here, students can enjoy state of the art facilities at an academic or sporting level. Classrooms are equipped with computers and interactive whiteboards. The school has fully-equipped science and computing laboratories, art, cookery and music classrooms, audiovisual media rooms, a chapel, large library and theatre. Among our sports facilities are tennis and padel courts, a gymnasium, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 7-a-side football pitch, dance and fitness rooms and outdoor multisport pitches
