5 A Message From Fr. Roberto, O.P. Remember: Giving $5 vs. $1 in the collection makes a big difference! Introducing Fr. Bart Father Bartholomew Hutcherson, OP has, with the exception of a brief detour in Province administration, spent all 18 years of his priesthood working in various university ministries of the Western Dominican Province; most recently serving 10 years as Pastor of the Newman Center at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Prior to entering the Order, he worked as a parish youth minister and has continued his commitment to serving the young Church as a Campus Minister. The primary focus of his ministerial life has been creating a welcoming space for young Catholics to discover and use their gifts in the service of the Church and world. He is happy to bring that special focus on community and discipleship to work in a more traditional parish setting with a more diverse population. Fr. Bart has spent the last year on sabbatical studying Scripture in Jerusalem and Spanish in the historic Dominican city of Salamanca, Spain (Fr. Vicente s home town!). In November he completed a 2 week pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Paul in Greece and Turkey. In April and May, Fr. Bart in the cave of the Nativity in Bethlehem on Christmas morning. he walked 500+ miles on the Camino de Santiago beginning in Lourdes, France, and ending at Finisterre, in Galicia, Spain on the Atlantic Coast. The sabbatical has been a great year of discovery and adventure; and he is excited to share the fruits of that extraordinary time with Holy Rosary Parish. Fr. Bart grew up in the American South, but has chosen the West as his home for more than 30 years. He is passionate about Scripture and history, both of which he brings to his animated preaching, hoping to help others love the Scriptures and Church as much as he does. He is an avid movie fan, loves to read, and loves to travel, especially to historically and religiously significant sites. He will be arriving at Holy Rosary in July. Save the Date We will be having an XLT on Thursday, July 23, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 in the church. XLT stands for EXALT and it is a night we exalt God through worship, praise, testimony, preaching, adoration and confession. Come and join us and give your faith a shot in the arm! Pope Francis New Encyclical As you may know, last week Pope Francis published his second encyclical, i.e., a letter, addressed to the entire church. It is entitled Laudato Si Italian for Praised Be to You. The words are taken from St. Francis famous Canticle of the Sun: Praise be to you, my Lord in which St. Francis gives God praise for creation. The subtitle of the encyclical is On the care for our common home because the pope highlights our responsibility as human beings to care for the earth. Here are some quotes from the encyclical: More than fifty years ago, with the world teetering on the brink of nuclear crisis, Pope Saint John XXIII wrote an Encyclical which not only rejected war but offered a proposal for peace. He addressed his message Pacem in Terris to the entire Catholic world and indeed to all men and women of good will. Now, faced as we are with global environmental deterioration, I wish to address every person living on this planet. In my Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, I wrote to all the members of the Church with the aim of encouraging ongoing missionary renewal. In this Encyclical, I would like to enter into dialogue with all people about our common home. ( 3) We are not God. The earth was here before us and it has been given to us. ( 67) Fr. Bart in the Cathedral of Barcelona, Spain on Dec 31st A spirituality which forgets God as all powerful and Creator is not acceptable. That is how we end up worshipping earthly powers, or ourselves usurping the place of God, even to the point of claiming an unlimited right to trample his creation underfoot. The best way to restore men and women to their rightful place, putting an end to their claim to absolute dominion over the earth, is to speak once more of the figure of a Father who creates and who alone owns the world. Otherwise, human beings will always try to impose their own laws and interests on reality. ( 75)

9 Un Mensaje de Padre Roberto Recuerde: Dar $5 en vez de $1 en la colecta hace la diferencia! P. Bartolomeo Padre Bartolomeo Hutcherson, OP, con la excepción de un breve desvío en la administración de la provincia, ha pasado los 18 años de su sacerdocio trabajando en varios ministerios universitarios de la provincia occidental Dominicana; más recientemente sirvió 10 años como pastor del Centro Universitario de la Universidad de Arizona en Tucson. Antes de entrar en la Orden, trabajó como ministro de jóvenes en una parroquia y ha continuado su compromiso de servir a los jóvenes de la Iglesia como un ministro universitario. El enfoque principal de su vida ministerial ha sido la creación de un espacio acogedor a los jóvenes católicos para que descubran y utilicen sus dones al servicio de la Iglesia y del mundo. Él está feliz de llevar ese enfoque especial en la comunidad y el discipulado a trabajar en el ambiente más tradicional de una parroquia con una población más diversa. P. Bart ha pasado el último año en sabático estudiando la Escritura en Jerusalén y español en la histórica ciudad dominicana de Salamanca, España ( ciudad natal del P. Vicente!). En noviembre completó una peregrinación de 2 semanas en los pasos de S. Pablo en Grecia y P. Bart en la Cueva de la Natividad en Belén en la mañana de Navidad. Turquía. En abril y mayo, caminó más de 500 millas en el Camino de Santiago a partir de Lourdes, Francia, y terminando en Finisterre, en Galicia, España, en la costa atlántica. El año sabático ha sido un gran año de descubrimiento y aventura; y él está encantado de compartir los frutos de ese tiempo extraordinario con la Parroquia del Santo Rosario. P. Bart se crió en el sur de los EE.UU., pero ha hecho el occidente como su hogar por más de 30 años. Él es un apasionado de la Escritura y de la historia, e incorpora ambos sujetos en su predicación animada, con la esperanza de ayudar a otros a que amen las Escrituras y la Iglesia tanto como él. Él es un ávido entusiasta de películas, le encanta leer, y le encanta viajar, especialmente a sitios histórica y religiosamente significativos. P. Bart va a llegar al Santo Rosario en julio. La Nueva Encíclica del Papa Francisco A lo mejor, algunos de ustedes saben que la semana pasada el Papa Francisco publicó su segunda encíclica, es decir, una carta, dirigida a toda la iglesia. Se titula "Laudato Si " Italiano por "Alabado Seas..." Las palabras están tomadas del famoso Cántico del Sol de San Francisco de Asís: "Alabado seas, mi Señor..." en el que San Francisco le da a Dios la alabanza por la creación. El subtítulo de la encíclica es "Sobre el Cuidado de la Casa Común", porque el Papa pone de relieve nuestra responsabilidad como seres humanos por el cuidado de la tierra. Aquí hay algunas citas de la encíclica: Hace más de cincuenta años, cuando el mundo estaba vacilando al filo de una crisis nuclear, el santo Papa Juan XXIII escribió una encíclica en la cual no se conformaba con rechazar una guerra, sino que quiso transmitir una propuesta de paz. Dirigió su mensaje Pacem in Terris a todo el «mundo católico», pero agregaba «y a todos los hombres de buena voluntad». Ahora, frente al deterioro ambiental global, quiero dirigirme a cada persona que habita este planeta. En mi exhortación Evangelii Gaudium, escribí a los miembros de la Iglesia en orden a movilizar un proceso de reforma misionera todavía pendiente. En esta encíclica, intento especialmente entrar en diálogo con todos acerca de nuestra casa común. ( 3) No somos Dios. La tierra nos precede y nos ha sido dada. ( 67) P. Bart en la catedral de Barcelona, España en el 31 de diciembre. No podemos sostener una espiritualidad que olvide al Dios todopoderoso y creador. De ese modo, terminaríamos adorando otros poderes del mundo, o nos colocaríamos en el lugar del Señor, hasta pretender pisotear la realidad creada por él sin conocer límites. La mejor manera de poner en su lugar al ser humano, y de acabar con su pretensión de ser un dominador absoluto de la tierra, es volver a proponer la figura de un 60 Padre creador y único dueño del mundo, porque de otro modo el ser humano tenderá siempre a querer imponer a la realidad sus propias leyes e intereses. ( 75)
